Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 121: Bought a thousand roses and rained it down on her
Valerie sat next to Tiana. They were in what you call a deaf silence after Valerie made a certain request.
She was hoping to ask Tiana if she knew who her father’s family were or if she had a clue on what happened before he married her mother but she felt it was a bit too direct and decided to change the direction of her question.
"So, you wanted to know how your mom met your dad?" Tiana asked and Valerie nodded.
"Yes, but more specifically, I want to know who my dad was and where he came from." Valerie said. "You know, since there are no records of who he was or where he comes from. All I know is that he was a foreigner."
Tiana looked away for a moment, thinking. She and Valerie’s mother were very close, so close that there were things she told her that she could not tell the world.
It was okay to tell her daughter, right?
She glanced at Valerie. It seemed like something was bothering her and the clue to easing her worries was this story she was requesting to hear.
Something troubling, huh? And she thought the troubles had finally passed.
Guess it can’t be helped when there are piled secrets.
"You came to the right person, dear." Tiana said. "I’ll start from how and where they met."
Valerie clutched her hands. She really wanted to know if her father’s people were the people responsible for what was going on and if they were the ones her parents were weary of before their death.
She hoped she’d get something out of this.
"Your mother met your father at school." Tiana began.
"School?" Valerie tilted her head, surprised and Tiana nodded.
"Valerie, dear." She grabbed Valerie’s hand. "Do you even know what your mother was like?"
"I... I think you know the answer to that already." Valerie said and Tiana realized she had asked the wrong question.
"Oh, that’s right. I keep forgetting. My bad." She smiled awkwardly but Valerie shook her head.
"It’s alright. Just tell me what my mother was like. There’s no use trying to make me guess." She said.
"Of course. Your mother was bright, beautiful, and courteous." Tiana began. "She was practically a saint but she wasn’t as innocent as she portrayed herself to be. Don’t get me wrong, she wasn’t a hypocrite but she had her limits. And I’d know that because I was her best friend. She and I walked side by side everywhere." She proudly mentioned with her nose in the air and Valerie nodded.
"I get the memo." She said.
"Ahem, your mother was a warm person." Tiana said, smiling warmly all of a sudden. "She extends her hand to help whenever she feels like it but if she hates you, it’s over."
"My mother kept a grudge?" Valerie asked and Tiana nodded.
"Ah, you would never believe who it was." Tiana said, and Valerie tilted her head. How was she supposed to guess when...? She paused.
"No way." Her eyes widened. "You’re saying... " Tiana nodded.
"Yeah, she held a serious grudge against your father."
"What? I mean, why? Did he do something wrong to her?"
"Your mother was a very simple person. She didn’t like extravagance and definitely didn’t like noisy and loud people."
"Then how were you two best friends?" Valerie asked.
That question was a bit offensive but Tiana brushed it off. There was no use getting mad now, so she answered calmly.
"Aish, I was an exception, you see. We grew up together, so she was used to ’my’ kind of ’loud’." She said, and Valerie nodded, urging her to continue. "Anyway, your father happened to fit in that category very well."
"Wow, that’s interesting." Valerie said and crossed her legs. "I wonder how they got along."
"I’ll get there."
"So, your father transferred to our school out of nowhere. Yes, Cambridgeshire was a school that had a lot of wealthy and known heirs from across the world but no one knew who your father was or where he came from. He was rich, no doubt, but there was nothing about him that let out his origin."
"So, he kept his identity a secret?"
"Precisely." Tiana nodded. "But, he was a bit strange. On a normal note, people who go around with unknown identities tend to stay quiet but he wasn’t. He squandered, played, and partied. He made sure to make himself known and that wasn’t all."
Valerie listened intently. To think her father was such a person... She would never have imagined it. She got even more curious as to how he was able to win her mother over.
"Your father was also incredibly intelligent." She said. "He flew in out of nowhere and stole the top spot from your mother."
"Oh? That sounds interesting." Valerie exclaimed, showing more interest in the story.
"At first, your mother saw it as a sign to work harder because it was true that no matter how hard someone worked, there were always people better than them somewhere. That competition, she was ready to take it on."
’A competitive start. That doesn’t sound bad.’
"But when your mother discovered your father was the one who passed her in all exams, she was livid. And you know why?" Tiana chuckled. "It was because she completely despised his lifestyle and the way he showed off. Sure, he was rich and had the right to squander his money however he liked but he was the same guy who... Wait for it... Bought a thousand roses and rained it down on her with his helicopter while reciting a poem about how beautiful she was."
"What? Where did that come from?"
"I know, right? At that time, I was as shocked as her."
"Why did he do that? A thousand roses? Was he trying to woo her by chance?"
"In fact, he was."
"Tiana, I feel you’re skipping a bit too many details here," Valerie said, placing her hand on her head. "When did that happen?"
"Oh, I guess I did skip a bit of important happenings." Tiana said, tapping her head. "My bad, my memory isn’t as great as it was in my golden days so bear with me." She sighed. "As for when that happened," she gave it a thought and then snapped her fingers. "It happened the second week after your father transferred into the school."
"Oh!" Valerie said and covered her mouth, once again exclaiming, "Oh!"
"Haha, you’re surprised, right? Everyone in school then was so shocked, especially knowing the kind of person your mother was." She explained. "Your father thought he did good but he fucked up, honestly."
"So, how did my mother react?" Valerie asked.
"Well, she didn’t react much. She looked at the roses on her shoulders and gave out a very irritated hiss. She dusted them off and said, ’Tia, let’s go to class. I have no time to waste on imbeciles.’" she recalled and laughed. "It was so hilarious."
Valerie was silent. It was a bit contrasting to what her nanny said but well, that was after they were bound by love.
They probably changed.
But right now, she more than anything, agreed that her father gave the worst first impression. But in a way, it was quite sweet, knowing he went so far just to get her attention.
"When your father saw he could not get your mother’s attention with extravagance, he decided to try getting her attention with his grades and thus, he surpassed her in everything." Tiana explained, feeling amused at the recollection of her memories. "If he had started with this, maybe your mother would’ve given him the attention he craved but knowing the kind of person he was already, she completely hated him and refused to acknowledge him."
"That’s tough." Valerie said, rubbing the back of her neck. " If I didn’t know the end result, I would definitely conclude that there was no hope for them. But to think they ended up so in love that they got married... What happened after that?"
"Your father kept falling for your mother. And the more she ignored him, the more he wanted to get her attention." She rested her back and stared at the ceiling. "Your mother was a beautiful woman. So beautiful that anyone who laid eyes on her lost their focus. So many wooed her, despite her family not being very influential, and many failed."
"They didn’t accuse her of being prideful or arrogant because she was simply sunny. That warmth, it was like she wanted to share it with everyone and so she did not accept any confessions." Tiana closed her eyes for a moment. "Your mother initially thought your father was one of those who had fallen for her because of her beauty and she wasn’t wrong. He was so amazed by the color of his eyes that he threw away his pride and confessed his feelings."
"Was that when she agreed to date him?"
"Of course not." Tiana burst out laughing. "Your mother threw his confession at his face and walked away."
"Ugh, it seems like my father suffered a lot just to win my mother over." Valerie said in a solemn tone. "Can you tell me now, how he was able to succeed?"
"Ah, you wouldn’t believe it but a simple gesture from him was actually what got him his gold." Tiana said. "All he did was feed the street cat a can of sardine and that was how he got your mother’s heart to flip. Or so I was told."
Valerie, in disbelief, tilted her head.
"Eh?"
