Chapter 40: Make up your mind - II

She had four boxes in total. Filing one on the top of another she took two boxes downstairs first and Salvatore opened the door for her and his car trunk.

Then again without saying or even looking at her step mother, evident to the last two boxes and without a look to the home she had left most of her life in she kept the two boxes in the trunk before sitting in the passenger seat.

Salvatore drove away from the house without a word and somehow Evelyn appreciated that.

When they reached back to the house of Angelo, Evelyn walked to the back of the car first to take out two boxes from the trunk and just as she walked inside Agatha came outside to take the other two.

Salvatore’s eyes did not leave Evelyn as she walked into the house and then eventually disappeared. By the looks of how she avoided her mother did not have a good relationship and Evelyn shared no facial features with her.

Lucas then walked out of the house with a frown on his face. "Why are you not holding boxes instead of her?" He had a frown on his face.

Salvatore scoffed. "The boxes belong to her and she did not ask for help."

Lucas facepalmed. He should have expected this. "She will never ask for help. That’s what a gentleman does, he offers." He huffed slightly. Please tell me you at least opened the door for her."

"Yes, I did." Salvatore retorted, not finding it important that he had only done so once. He threw the keys at the valet and walked inside the house only to find his father standing at the stairs.

Angelo huffed and shook his head. "Is it the lack of romantic movies in your childhood that you do not even know this decency?"

Salvatore narrowed his eyes on his father. "Should you even be the one to talk?"

Just as Angelo opened his mouth to retort something that had his son little and quick footsteps could be heard making both of them look at Alessia who was running to her grandpa.

Angelo picked her up. "Hello lovely, what can I help you with?"

Alessia played with a button on his shirt as she replied, "I need some money."

"How much?"

"One billion." Came her reply straight away making Angelo raise his eyebrows.

"One billion?" He repeated. "Are you aware of how many zeros there are in a billion?"

Alessia raised her hand with two fingers and others enclosed in fist. "Two zeros." She answered her grandfather honestly.

"Is it?" Angela said with a small side before placing her down and opening his wallet. Pulling out a hundred euro bill and handing it to her, he said, "don’t tell your mother grandmother about this. Okay?"

Alessia nodded whilst keeping her eyes on the money and then ran away once she received it.

Angelo nudged his head to his office and Salvatore followed behind. It was difficult to talk about business when there were kids around, especially his grandkids that were not of the age to be told of the business yet.

"You are interested in the girl and do not bother lying." Even a moment had not passed when Angelo made those comments.

Salvatore did not bother to answer. If his father had made an observation that he knew what was right and what was wrong.

"Are you going to marry?" Angelo threw the awaited question out in the open. "She does not have a father, her organisation is a benefit to us and if she marries into the family the organisation will be more than willing to follow you."

Salvatore shook his head thoughtfully. "That is not what I want to think about." Even though marriages were better when people were aware what it entailed to marry into a mafia family was preferred over marrying someone for love, Salvatore did not find it pleasing just to marry someone for business reasons. Women had affections.

So in the end he would much rather prefer to marry someone whom he could reciprocate the feelings for. There was no reason for him to make someone else miserable.

Angelo nodded. "If it is love and attraction I cannot help you in that department." Angelo found no harm in admitting that he could not help his children in love and romance. That was something the darkness inside him never let him do.

Because of the darkness inside him he had carefully watched Salvatore. Until now he showed no signs of that. But who knew, he was not aware of it for a long time himself.

"I don’t know," Salvatore shook his head, "it is difficult to tell for now." He did not know the girl and he had left her alone for a time but then she just appeared in front of him.

It was difficult to process the whole thing now because he had left her alone and it had taken him a lot to do so.

Angelo huffed. "That girl goes to University where a bunch of horny boys go as well. Not only that but many children of Mafia houses go there. If you are ready to lose her by the time you make up your mind, then go ahead but if not, make up your mind and make the girl yours." Angelo warned without an ounce of remorse.

"Really?" Salvatore grated out the word. "Do you really have to give me an example of that scenario?"

"I’ll be honest with you boy," Angelo pointed at him, "that girl is a walking catch because if someone marries her, other than you, they will have direct ties with us and our protection. Not only that, but for as long as I have known her she is an intelligent girl and you don’t find like that today."

At the moment Salvatore showed no expression to his father. "I think of what to do." He said after a few minutes before getting up and walking out of the door.
