Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 262: A little messy - I

Evelyn was blank for a moment.

The man had left, taking her instruction about waiting for Salvatore. After that she had been rooted to her spot for thinking about what had happened.

What if the maid was innocent? What if she was just here to keep a piece of clothing?

But it could not have been made more clear to any of the maids and help in the house that they were not supposed to enter the rooms occupied by any members of the family without the presence of Marco.

Salvatore had come up with this rule after the break in.

So it was either a slip up on Marco’s behalf that he had not been here while the maid had been or it might be leaning towards the first suspicion that Evelyn had come up with.

Shaking her head, she kept her face before pulling her hands back to her side and walking out of the room.

Salvatore would see to this.

Arabella and the kids along with most of the adults had already made their way outside to the breakfast table. Evelyn might be the last one who was working towards it by the group of people standing there already.

Before she could even reach the table, Salvatore’s eyes found her and he made a beeline to words her, immediately taking her in his arms.

"I heard," he said, " you did good, Evelyn. You did wonderful."

Leaning her head on his shoulder she whispered, "what if she was not accountable? What if I made a mistake?"

The second thoughts seemed to be eating her mind and no matter how many alternate solutions she came up with, it did not leave her alone.

"If she is innocent, I will make sure to compensate her well. But if she is accountable, Evelyn, I don’t want you to worry in any way." Even if his words had held a dark, daunting meaning behind them, he instantly changed those words into gentle and caring as carried on rubbing her side, trying his best to calm her down.

She exhaled, before inhaling his scent and letting it settle inside. "She was inside our room Salvatore. What if she had been inside our daughter’s?"

"That is the reason why I have her with Iona constantly." He kissed the top of her head. "Why don’t you come and have breakfast now? I think that will cheer you up."

She nodded against his chest and after a minute, Salvatore pulled away and let her to the seat by his side as he pulled a chair for her.

The moment she looked at the Face of her daughter, Evelyn started to feel the happiness bubble inside her chest and before she knew it, Arabella was in her lap and she was executing her mummy duties.

This might be the first large family brunch that she had enjoyed thoroughly. Light joking was carried out to the entire branch and siblings for fun at each other. Their father however, was a completely different story.

Angelo did not bite back his replies but made it sure that he was filtering out certain words for the children.

The remarks were certainly a different tale. Alexis and Evelyn were holding back their laughter, making their face red as they pressed their lips together so that I did not escape.

"And that said," Angela placed his cutlery down on the plate before getting up, " I am going to be the first one to walk away from my four idiots."

"Very well said," Lucas slowly clubbed his hands, mocking his father in front of everyone, "we follow your genes though."

Angelo did not bother to reply and waved his hand at his son, dismissing him without a reply as he walked away from the table.

Alexis however, quite in town and enjoyed her glass of wine that she had started on early in the breakfast.

That was something she had never seen Alexis do whenever, in the few times that they had had breakfast. What is something wrong with her?

"I’ll be leaving too," Salvatore stood up and with a meaningful nod towards his wife he parted from everyone.

" The weather is nice and the kids are playing, so I’m going to stay here for a while." Bella told her husband as she kept an eye over the three children playing together.

"Alright then I will be leaving too." Antonio was further joined by Marcello and Lucas leaving the three women alone.

"Arabella prefers Marcelo, doesn’t she?" Alexis said softly and Evelyn chuckled.

"that is because he brings chocolates for him every time he comes over."

"Hah!" Bella laughed. "He bribed my kids too. I say, let them enjoy, once he realises how heavy it is on his pocket he will stop."

Once again when Bella turned her attention to the kids, Evelyn this time stood up and walked to the seat next to Alexis before taking it.

"Are you alright?" She asked Alexis.

"Yes," Alexis replied immediately before shaking her head, "marital problems."

With that, Evelyn watched as she took another sip of the wine.

Should she intervene?

"Don’t." Alexis glanced at her before looking ahead. "I can tell by the look on your face that you are thinking of talking to me about it and I do not want that. So don’t bother talking to me about it."

"Alright," she resigned. " if that is what you want and I won’t talk to you about it but just so you know I’m just a phone call away."

"I know better than to discuss my problems with my children." Alexis shook her head. "that creates a divide between parents in the minds of children. Even though you are my daughter in law, I’m not going to do that."

Evelyn lowered her eyes as her mind processed what Alexis said. That was true. That would create a rift in the minds of children and this was something that she was always going to remember.

She was never going to discuss any problems with Arabella, hell she would avoid an argument altogether. Her child would not be forced to choose between Salvatore and her at any point of time.

Evelyn sighed and nodded to herself.
