Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 243: A dinner date- III
That heavy moment was interrupted by the waiter, he filled their wine glasses before leaving them with the menu and it did not take them minutes before they ordered food.
A few sips of her wine, a little more than necessary but somehow felt herself a bit lightened.
The wine was definitely delicious. For two years when she had been taking care of Arabella she had completely cut off alcohol and having a sip of something that was so beautifully concocted after so long, it gave her a different high.
"Stop, Evelyn," he scolded, "you are a lightweight. That match is going to get you drunk early into the date."
"Hmmm," Evelyn nodded, "if I get drunk, your company might become bearable."
For a brief second, his eyebrows shot up before he schooled his expressions and noted solemnly. "Bearable, yes?"
"Yes."
Salvatore nodded, "thank you for telling me that."
Evelyn nodded with a smile. The buzz was getting to her and she enjoyed it. "Do you have any friends?"
She pointed at herself, "I mean, I don’t have any friends and if you don’t then we are certainly going to turn out to be... how is Arabella supposed to have friends if we don’t?"
"Is our daughter supposed to play with our friends? Arabella will make her own, you do not need to worry about that."
Did she?
Why did it feel like she had to worry about it?
Evelyn left the topic alone and turned to look at the door in the back of the room where she had seen the waiter disappear.
"When do you think our food is going to come? I’m kind of hungry for some good food." She licked her food for emphasis. And right on that time, her stomach roared making Salvatore close his eyes and laugh.
He dipped his head and raised his palm to hid his eyes before sighed and straightening up, "I’ll them to hurry."
He did that in an instant. One of the waiters that had been standing as a standby in case they needed anything, came over to them when Salvatore looked at him.
Once the waiter went inside the same door to make sure that the message was conveyed, Evelyn grinned again. "What did you order?"
"Meat."
"Bleh," she gagged, "why is it important for you to kill in real life and kill in food?"
Salvatore did not comment on the suddenly bold behaviour. Hell, he enjoyed it.
"because it is survival of the fittest and that is in every food chain." He shrugged, "eat or get eaten."
She tsked, tsked and tsked again before waving a hand dismissively in the air. "No one wants to hear the psychological quotes."
"Philos—" he sighed, "nevermind."
She was too drunk to understand and it would be a futile attempt to tell her and make her understand anything.
As he had ordered, the food was placed in front of them in record time and Evelyn without waiting for the waiter to leave, dug into her food and took a huge bite.
His little Singer twitched at the lack of manners but he kept silent. It was a dinner date, they were here to enjoy, there was no need for any reprimanding.
With manners that he had practised almost all of his life, he cut into the meat and took a small bite as they were supposed to. Instead of eating like he had never done before like Evelyn.
after the first bite, as he kept his eyes on her, evelyn closed her eyes and savoured the taste making him smile.
"Is it good?" he asked after he chewed a bite.
"Hu huh," Evelyn nodded, "you need to get this recipe from the chef. I am going to hand it over to Marco so that I can have it every single day!"
"I will." He promised.
After sometime, which was spent in silence as they were eating, Evelyn felt herself being brought down from the bus that she felt earlier from the wine.
A lot of questions for brimming over the edge but she did not know where to start from. It was like she was supposed to not pick from the questions that she was not sure about if he would answer or not.
One of those questions was about Marcelo and the recent change in him. Thinking about taking a shot, Evelyn took a sip of water before shooting the question at Salvatore.
"What happened to Marcelo?" She asked. "he look completely different."
"He does," Salvst agreed, " as my brother he was supposed to join and he did. That meant going through changes and he succeeded."
A short and clipped answer just like one would expect from Salvatore even when it came to his family. He was definitely not going to dive into details especially when they were outside of the house.
"when are you going to introduce your father to Arabella?" That was going to happen one way or the other and it was the reaction of her father-in-law that scared her. "Does he know?"
Instead of receiving the answers she wanted, all she got was a head on stare As Salvatore placed his cutlery down and gave her his full attention.
"My father knows The exact amount of information my mother does. Except for the paperwork that he had trailed and backtracked, there is nothing more that he knows and nothing for you to worry about."
Standard and slightly relieved, she repeated,"Nothing?"
"Yes, nothing." He confirmed and added, " as for that, he is going to come along with my mother this weekend or so. We will introduce them together and my mother will be a familiar face."
Evelyn recoiled back into her personal space slightly as she picked over her fork. Meeting Angelo after so long was definitely going to be more daunting than it felt at the moment.
She gulped and closed her eyes, this could either go to well or this could go to wrong and she had an intuition that it was going to be the latter more than the former.
