Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 222: A little girl - II
It had taken 3 more days to get approval from the doctor. Now she could finally go home.
Alexis was present more than usual and she only saw Salvatore in fleeting moments. It was more like she would ask the doctor how she was, take a look at her, and then leave.
The appendicitis operation was successful and now she could barely feel the pain or even something that would remotely point to the fact that she had it removed.
Currently, they were on their way home. Evelyn stared out of the car before looking back to the driver’s seat. Salvatore was in it, driving with no effort but she knew he paid more than enough attention to the road. The one sitting next to him in the passenger seat was his mother and Alexis was humming to the soft piano tunes.
There was something about Alexis that unnerved her.
She was like the combination of a civilian and a woman brought and raised in the world that she was raised in.
Alexis could be polite but we could be demanding as well. She had a unique way of covering it.
As much as Alexis was the center of attention with the position that she had as the wife to the former Don and the mother to the current one, she had no way of blending into the room; making her completely invisible.
As much as it hurts to say, Evelyn aspired to be like the woman who had had a civilian upbringing and probably with a white picket fence and stuff.
She was perfect. She looks like she had come from a perfect life too.
Much of the journey was quiet if not Alexis occasionally asking her if she was comfortable or not. The moment they arrived at the house that could be called a gilded cage for her, the wheelchair was brought out because Salvatore apparently did not trust her enough to work on her own.
He helped her into it and then wheeled into the mansion. Alexis somewhere behind them but she could hear her heels hit the tiles as they walked.
"Alright kids," She sighed and when Evelyn looked back she saw that Alexis remained in the living room. "I’ll rest for a bit."
Salvatore did not stop for one bit and when the stairs he bent down and picked her up from the chair before carrying her up.
The assumption that he was going to drop her back when they hit the floor that he was going to drop her could not be more wrong because instead of stopping and letting her set in the way there again, he continued to walk towards her room.
Even though no words were spoken in between them, it was clear that he still cared. Otherwise, why would he be here when he had a lot of things on top of his priority list at the moment?
Was it okay for her to be this hopeful?
"The doctor said the meds given in the morning would start kicking in," open the door to her room, "you will be woken up when it’s time for dinner. Alright?"
"Yes," she murmured. Her eyes were droopy anyway and that explained why she felt sleepy and fatigued.
The moment she hit the bed and her skin touched the bed sheets Evelyn was knocked out with sleep.

"Mummy!"
Evelyn did not bother to open her eyes but sniffed. She was still sleepy.
A sudden weight landed on top of her making her open her eyes instantly and wheeze out loudly.
"Hi!" Arabella’s face appeared right in front of her with her bright blue eyes twinkling. "How you doin’, mommy?"
Mommy? "Baby?" Unable to believe what was in front of her, Evelyn sat up straight making Arabella move down.
She touched the chubby cheeks of her daughter who stared at her with a wide smile and unruly curls.
"You’re here, my love."
Arabella nodded her head quite forcefully, "yup!" She went forward and poked the cheek of her mother. "See?"
Evelyn nodded through the tears and smiled slightly. "Yes, I do."
"The scary-looking uncle brought me here!" Arabella raised her hands above her head, " he is very tall!"
Evelyn chuckled, yes, Salvatore was very tall.
"He brought you here?"
Arabella nodded but instead of answering her opened her arms wide, "huggy now?"
"Huggy?" Evelyn repeated cheerfully, her spirits felt lifted all of a sudden and she lifted her daughter before hugging her close and squeezing her. "Who taught you that word?’
"The orpha-gean house did!" Arabella answered ignoring her slight difficulty with the word orphanage.
"I know, baby girl. I know."
Evelyn took a huge inhale of her baby scent, she touched the curls that were hard to comb and would make her daughter cry and then she rubbed the small back. This was her baby, her little one, her most precious possession.
When she opened her eyes, she saw someone particularly looking at them through the open door. With his arms folded, he stared at them with a sobered expression on his face as he leaned against the door frame.
"Thank you," she mumbled and he caught it. Nodding in reply, he accepted it.
"It’s okay, mummy," Arabella kissed her boob as that was in reach, "Huggies are free!"
"Is it?" Evelyn lightly pinched her cheeks, "would you like to eat something?"
Bella nodded and her mother picked her up before hugging her close again. It was difficult to part from her now that she had finally gotten her back.
Salvatore moved to the side, allowing the mother daughter duo to walk out. Evelyn knew he was silently trailing behind them and did not comment or ask why.
They made it to the kitchen and without a word the chef’s moved away letting the mistress of the house do whatever she wanted.
"So?" Evelyn placed arabella on the counter, "what is it that we want to make and eat?"
"Cookies!" Arabella patted her stomach with a happy smile on her face. "I think I am ready!"
