Chapter 1044: Flare

Miss Christen didn't limit herself to a single attack. Another glowing white sphere gathered on her fingertips, but a huge figure appeared in front of her before she could release it.

Major General Arngan swung his left arm at the evolved warrior. He was unnaturally fast for a man of his size, and his limbs were even faster, so his punch connected with Miss Christen's face.

However, what was supposed to be a violent impact transformed into the gentlest caress. Major General Arngan's knuckles landed on Miss Christen's cheek without inflicting any damage. It seemed his punch had lost all its strength and momentum at the last second.

Miss Christen completed her gesture at that point and repeated it multiple times. White light flashed between Major General Arngan and her, delivering vicious wounds. Four finger-sized holes had opened on the Major General's chest, and blood flowed out of them, tainting his military uniform.

The Major General ignored the pain and injuries, waving his right arm upward. He was huge, having immense reach, but Miss Christen merely stepped back, putting a few meters between her and her opponent before gathering more white light.

Nevertheless, four dark-red slashes followed Miss Christen, flying at her and crashing on her palm. That ethereal energy disturbed the accumulation of white light, leaving marks on her slender, pale fingers, and a red halo soon shone on them.

Dark-red light again began to surround Major General Arngan, but its glow felt denser. He could exert more of that strange power when transformed, having effects beyond mere boosts of his physical abilities.

The previous slashes were one of such effects, and the same went for the Major General's sudden appearance before Miss Christen. He had reached her right after dispersing her spell, and his raised arms descended like hammers ready to shatter the world.

To Miss Christen's surprise, Major General Arngan didn't target her head. Instead, he went for her stretched arm, seemingly wanting to crush it.

Yet, when Major General Arngan's arms were about to land on Miss Christen's forearm, their power disappeared, making them land softly on her uniform. Once again, she had nullified his attack without doing anything special.

Miss Christen seemed to move slowly in Major General Arngan's eyes, but her left palm felt unavoidable. He didn't even realize when Miss Christen placed it on his injured chest, releasing a burst of energy that shook his insides.

Major General Arngan was forced to exhale all the air inside his lungs, spitting drops of blood that rained on Miss Christen. All the organs in his chest seemed to have stopped working, and his huge figure fell, landing heavily on his knees.

Even while kneeling, Major General Arngan almost hid the entirety of Miss Christen's frame. Still, her head and neck were in the open, creating a gap Colonel Norrett could exploit.

The Colonel's injured leg prevented him from keeping up with such a high-level battle, but he didn't forget his role. As soon as an opening appeared, he launched an arrow-shaped spell forward, which split right after crossing the kneeling General.

The arrow split into multiple pieces that exploded outward, releasing a series of poisonous shards that hit the ground, Major General Arngan, and Miss Christen alike. Smoke and traces of decay spread wherever those spells landed, but the two warriors were a clear exception.

Major General Arngan didn't protect himself from the yellow-green shards, but his skin resisted their decaying properties. The spell riddled holes into his uniform, and his halo dimmed, but he faced no serious danger.

The same should theoretically apply to Miss Christen, but something different happened to her. She also let the shards land on her, but their fabric almost fused with her skin, damaging it as much as possible.

Miss Christen finally let out a sound, albeit in the shape of a suppressed, short grunt. A trace of pain appeared on her face as she closed her eyes and forced her existence to radiate more power, almost transforming it into a proper white halo.

The spots on the ground ruined by Major General Arngan's heavy steps and Colonel Norrett's spell suddenly gained new life. The wilted and crushed grass rose again, growing under the energy provided by Miss Christen's existence.

Major General Arngan also benefited from that energy. The holes in his chest started to close, and his dark red halo intensified. His insides also stabilized, making him feel stronger than

ever.

However, Miss Christen obviously benefited the most from her ability. All the yellow-green substance that had landed on her evaporated, revealing intact, perfectly white skin underneath. Whatever Colonel Norrett had managed to achieve vanished without a trace, and Miss Christen wouldn't let him try again.

Miss Christen glared at Colonel Norrett, and a barrage of tiny white spheres materialized in the air before her. Major General Arngan hurried to his feet, but Miss Christen was faster, waving her hand to send her spell forward.

Colonel Norrett couldn't move properly, and the white spheres were too fast to summon any defensive spell. He instinctively raised his arms to protect his face before the barrage hit him. Those tiny, instantaneous bullets riddled his whole body with holes, and his figure limply fell forward under Major General Arngan's shocked gaze.

Miss Christen snorted, and her eyes fell on her other opponent, only to see him with his open mouth pointed at her. Major General Arngan exhaled, releasing a scarlet gas that carried an ominous pressure.

Miss Christen tried to retreat, only to discover that Major General Arngan had trapped her legs with his huge hands. She held her breath, but the scarlet gas affected her anyway. Her mind tried to become muddled, invaded by confused and intense visions of carnage.

Major General Arngan didn't dare to waste that opportunity but couldn't release Miss Christen, either. So, he thrust himself forward, headbutting Miss Christen's head. Her nose exploded into a mess of blood, bone shards, and cartilage, and her suffering didn't end there since the Major General promptly bit on her neck.

Miss Christen quickly fended off the foreign visions and regained control of herself, calling upon her inhuman strength to slam her hand on the Major General, flinging him away. She was finally free of his overbearing presence, but he took a piece of her neck away with him.

Miss Christen was about to say something when Colonel Norrett's lying figure suddenly shook. He lifted his head, pointing his hazy eyes at Miss Christen before spitting a dense dark-green mass. The spell tried to act as a projectile but was too slow to threaten anyone. Miss Christen even wondered whether it had enough momentum to reach her.

Yet, Major General Arngan shot toward the dark green mass and kicked it, but not toward Miss Christen. He aimed at the forest's crowns, and the spell pierced through them before exploding into a cloud of decay.

At once, the battle came to a stop, with the three warriors gazing at the dark cloud. They didn't know how high it spread and whether someone outside the forest could spot it.
