Chapter 345: In a Coma

Five years ago, after the explosion in the wellsite...

A loud roar was heard and the first thing that Henry thought of was Ava. She just told him that his life was in danger and she was right. As he found himself on the ground, he frantically looked for Ava.

As soon as he spotted her engulfed in flames, he promptly rose from the ground. He hastily shed his jacket, only to realize that it too was ablaze. Luckily, he managed to extinguish the fire and then used the jacket to smother the fire that had consumed Ava.

He can hear people screaming and wailing and he knows that he needs to help others. He carried Ava to safety and ran back to help people get out of the explosion site.

He saw a man on fire running towards him and he did not hesitate to run towards that man to help. But before he could reach the burning man, he heard another explosion, a smaller one this time. Soon after, he was struck from behind by a solid object, causing him to tumble to the ground, knocking him unconscious.

"This is not Henry! You told me you would save Henry!"

Henry heard a woman’s voice but his eyelids were too heavy for him to lift up. The voice was familiar but it was muffled and he heard a loud ringing sound. His whole body was in pain.

"That is Henry! Just wait for him to wake up and ask him yourself. Be thankful that I was able to get him out of there alive. Use your money to fix him afterward. I will let you tend to him tonight before I ask for our part of the deal tomorrow."

A man’s voice said, and the next thing that Henry heard was complete silence before he lost consciousness again.

When he woke up again, the first person that he saw was a nurse. He felt relieved that someone had saved him and he was alive. He doesn’t feel any pain anymore and the only thing that he can feel is hunger and thirst.

"N-Nurse... W-Water p-please..." Henry said as he tried to sit up.

The nurse immediately pushes the button on the wall just above the bed. "Thank God you woke up. Here, let me help you sir. Please move slowly, don’t rush. Your muscles are still weak." The nurse helped him sit up and help him hold the glass of water as he drank.

The nurse was right, since he had a hard time holding the glass of water for his hands were trembling.

Instead of a doctor that he was expecting to come in when the nurse pushed the button, a man in a casual shirt and jeans came in. He did not say anything but went to the nurse and whispered something to her instead.

The nurse kept on glancing at him with a worried face as she talked to the man who left as soon as he finished whispering to the nurse.

"Sir, please stay here and wait for the doctor. He is currently not here, so please do not attempt to stand up or you might fall down and hit your head. I will just prepare some food for you to eat. You must be starving," the nurse said before she left.

He looked around the room and noticed that it didn’t look like a hospital room at all. It looks like a basement room since it has no windows. There are no decorations and only essential things are in there such as life support equipment, a table, and a chair.

Henry had a bad feeling about it so he removed his IV and tried to stand up but only to fall to the ground just like the nurse said. His knees were really weak and shaky.

He attempted to stand up again by clutching the IV stand, yet his efforts were unsuccessful. As he faltered, the IV stand toppled onto the table, causing the stainless tray to tumble to the floor, scattering its contents

"Fuck! What is happening to me?!" Henry couldn’t believe how weak he had become. He picked up the tray and was shocked by what he saw.

His hands were shaking as he moved the tray closer to his face so he could see his reflection. "No, no, no!" Henry threw the tray to the wall and tried to stand up once more by clinging to the bed.

The face that he saw in his reflection was not him, or at least not used to be him. His face was unrecognizable for it was all covered in scars. Then he remembered what happened, there was an explosion in the wellsite and he saved Ava.

He attempted to stand up again by clutching the IV stand, yet his efforts were unsuccessful. As he faltered, the IV stand toppled onto the table, causing the stainless tray to tumble to the floor, scattering its contents was trying to save a burning man before he fainted.

The nurse heard the noise in Henry’s room and ran back in. "Mr. Welsh, what happened? I told you to stay put," she exclaimed as she helped him sit back on the bed.

"W-What happened to me? Where is my wife?" Henry stammered and felt his body trembled. He was confused, scared, and angry. He can feel that something is wrong and he is not in the place where he is supposed to be given his condition.

"I’m sorry sir, but all I can say is that you have been in a coma for three years. I don’t know much since I just started working here two weeks ago," the nurse said apologetically.

"T-Three years? And where am I? Where is Amy? Where is my wife?" Henry almost yelled. He was already panicking because he knew that his wife would not leave him in that state and she would do everything to put him back to his previous state.

"I’m sorry sir, I don’t know about your wife. I haven’t seen any woman here since I started working and I cannot say where you are right now. It’s probably best if you wait for the– AHH!!!"

The nurse was not able to finish for Henry grabbed her arm so tight.

"Bring me my wife now!" Henry yelled so loud making the nurse cry for help.

Soon, four men entered the room and cuffed both his arms and legs to the bed restraining his movements.
