CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 296: New CEO of Bellory
After their visit to Brighton’s Mansion, the Welsh couple proceeded as planned to Amy’s farm, their next destination. Henry, driving the car, remained silent, occasionally expressing frustration through curses. Sensing Henry’s anger and irritation, Amy refrained from asking questions and instead offered emotional support by gently rubbing his back or patting his leg or knee from time to time.
Henry valued her gesture greatly, often seizing the opportunity to hold Amy’s hand when it rested on his leg and bestowing it with a tender kiss. After parking their car in the driveway, he released a deep sigh and then turned toward Amy.
"Amy, I regret to inform you that we won’t be able to finalize the deal with Brighton Industries. I’ve remained silent all this while, hoping to come up with potential solutions, but I’ve hit a dead end. I’m deeply sorry," Henry confessed, sinking back into the seat and covering his face with both hands.
"I appreciate your effort. If you believe it’s impossible, I won’t insist on pursuing it further. We’ll go back to the drawing board and open it up for bidding instead. However, could you please enlighten me on what happened? I’m curious to know the details," Amy inquired calmly.
Henry tenderly lifted his right hand and gently caressed Amy’s cheek before responding, "Alright, but can we grab something to eat first? Hunger and anger don’t make for a good combination. Just thinking about that father and son fight is already making me angry."
Amy nodded in agreement, and the couple proceeded directly to Mary’s parents’ home for lunch. They had already informed the couple that they would be staying for the weekend before heading to visit Jayson and Jena in Brookegrove.
To their astonishment and joy, Mary, Anton, Sandra, Rei, and Maya were all present. Even Theo was among them. The couple discovered them busy setting up the table and arranging dishes on the back patio, preparing for a delightful alfresco dining experience.
"Hey, look who’s arrived ahead of schedule. Have you found what you were searching for?" Rei exclaimed, calling out to the others as Henry and Amy made their way toward them.
Amy shrugged and pouted, "We didn’t find anything, and to make matters worse... the deal is no longer an option."
Anton, who had just joined them on the patio, exclaimed, "What? Did you get caught or something along those lines?"
Taking a seat, Henry reached for the pitcher and poured himself and Amy a glass of water before responding, "No, it wasn’t due to us getting caught. It was actually because of a heated argument between the father and son, which spiraled out of control and ultimately led to the rejection of Amy’s proposal."
Helen, overhearing their conversation as she brought the last dish she had prepared, chimed in, "Kids, let’s all sit down and say grace before diving back into work discussions. Come on, everyone, get settled."
The father and son drama quickly faded from everyone’s minds as they savored the delectable dishes prepared by Helen. To showcase the day’s fresh catch from the river, she served crispy pan-fried bluegill with zesty lemon aioli and maple-soy grilled salmon steaks with a side of rice and potato salad.
As dessert, she enlisted Troy, her husband, to skillfully slice watermelons, cantaloupes, and ripe mangoes.
Meanwhile, Troy had arranged for the farm boys to procure young and fresh coconuts, adding an extra element of delight for everyone to enjoy. It was a hearty feast that Amy couldn’t tire of, and she eagerly anticipated Jayson and Jena’s return home to experience it as well.
"Once you return, Amy, will the children come back home with you?" Helen asked, brimming with enthusiasm.
"I hope so, Auntie. I plan to stay there for no more than a month, and during that time, I hope the doctor will approve the necessary travel documents so that we can continue his therapy back home," Amy replied.
"Wow, I’m thrilled to see the children again. I miss them both dearly. Will you visit here frequently once they return?" Helen almost pleaded, evoking a smile from Amy.
Aware of Helen and Troy’s deep affection for the children, treating them as if they were their own grandchildren, Amy made an announcement.
"I actually intend to have them stay here until Jayson makes a full recovery. He will require daily home therapy for at least six months after returning, and the farm provides an ideal environment for the kids to reside while they continue their homeschooling," Amy explained.
"Oh, my goodness! That would be absolutely wonderful! Although it would be even more marvelous if our Mary could bless us with our own grandchildren, don’t you think, Troy?" Helen exclaimed, seeking Troy’s affirmation, which he happily gave with a nod.
Startled by her mother’s unexpected comment, Mary coughed as she accidentally inhaled her food. Thankfully, her best friend was quick to support her.
"I’m afraid Auntie, Mary won’t be able to fulfill your request just yet. You see, I’ve promoted her to be the new CEO of Bellory while I continue to serve as the Chairwoman of the company," Amy cheerfully declared.
Upon hearing the news, everyone congratulated Mary, but Helen’s eyes welled up with tears, catching the attention of those around her.
"Auntie Helen, what’s wrong?" Sandra inquired, seated directly opposite her.
"I’m simply overjoyed. It has always been Mary’s dream to become a prominent leader someday. She aspired to be the boss of Bellory because she believed that Amy would become a renowned writer and wouldn’t have the time to take on such a role. So, she took it upon herself to fulfill that dream on Amy’s behalf. It seems dreams truly do come true," Helen explained, her voice filled with emotion.
"Yes, Mom. Thank you, Amy, for believing in me and entrusting Bellory to my care," Mary responded, her eyes welling up with tears of happiness as well. "I already know about this Mom, so please stop crying, you are making me cry too," Mary added and everyone around them chuckled at her remark.
Troy’s curiosity prompted him to inquire, "Amy, does this mean you’ll be focusing on something else, which is why you entrusted the position to Mary?"
"Yes, Uncle, I’ll be overseeing the management of the wellsite alongside Henry and Anton," Amy began to respond, but Henry interrupted with a clearing of his throat.
"She’ll be concentrating on expanding our family while remotely managing the wellsite. I made a promise to Jayson that he would walk Amy down the aisle on our wedding day. The kids didn’t know until now that we’ve already tied the knot, so Amy will be busy preparing for our ’real’ grand wedding. Additionally, we plan to adopt them, so it’s going to be a very eventful year for us."
Henry continued with a mischievous grin, "The wellsite won’t be operational right away, giving Amy time to take care of Jayson and Jena while we wait. Oh, and did I mention our goal of expanding our family? Making babies is our top priority at the moment, which is the only enjoyable part for me," he added, eliciting laughter from everyone present, except for a blushing and embarrassed Amy.
When everyone was done with their meal Mary and Sandra went to the kitchen with Uncle Troy to help Helen clean up and the rest stayed on the patio to rest before retiring to their respective rooms.
"Bro, what happened to the proposal?" Anton asked. He was so eager to ask about it earlier but he doesn’t want to ruin everyone’s mood even if his curiosity is already killing him.
Henry sighed first as he entwined his hand with Amy’s fingers before he started explaining. "At first Lucas was encouraging us to find loopholes in their contract with Mr. Turner, but then Ash asked more questions outside the contract.
He asked what was Mr. Brighton afraid of since they can just terminate the contract and pay the fine, especially when we are willing to help them pay the termination fee. Then Ash asked if Mr. Turner is blackmailing his father.
They asked a lot of personal questions that I couldn’t even follow from then on. Lucas got mad and they started yelling at each other. Then Ash even brought up Amy’s family which made Mr. Brighton angry and totally rejected the proposal. He even said that Ash will never get the CEO position for as long as he live. Ash got mad, screamed more, then walked out of the room," Henry explained as he shook his head, utterly dumbfounded as he recalled what happened.
"What does my family have to do with it?" Amy can’t help but ask since it was new to her but she was already guessing that it has something to do with her land before it was used as collateral.
She hates to admit it but as soon as Henry mentioned her family, the fear and anger that she felt before is starting to rise up again. She was willing to set that aside for the sake of their business which she, Henry, and their future family will all benefit from. Now that she thinks and feels that there’s more to it, she is not willing to set it aside anymore. She knows that Ash would not even mention it if it was nothing at all.
