CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 281: Jumping To Conclusions
Amy beamed with a wide smile, warmly embracing everyone who greeted her and graciously accepting the gifts given to her. Meanwhile, Henry remained by her side, maintaining a quiet presence and offering a smile when necessary. His confusion deepened as he couldn’t comprehend Amy’s intentions or the reason behind her choice to withhold the truth about her pregnancy details from everyone present in the room.
"Please, have a seat," Sandra beckoned to both of them. "We won’t linger too long, as Amy needs her rest, especially during the first trimester of her pregnancy. I specifically requested the chef to prepare dishes that are gentle on the stomach, promoting good nutrition for the baby while minimizing the chances of nausea."
"I highly recommend that you take a leave from work and rest at home for as long as necessary," Mary chimed in. "We’ll take care of Bellory while you’re away. The first trimester as they say is the most critical period, and ensuring proper rest and care is very important."
"Really? I suppose so. I actually planned to stay at home today since my back is still aching a bit and–" Amy was then interrupted by Sandra.
"You’re still experiencing pain? Why didn’t you mention it earlier?" Sandra exclaimed. "You should stay in bed right now. We need to call your doctor and get you the proper check-up."
"No, it’s alright. Henry will take care of that," Amy replied, casting a wink at Henry. "Isn’t that right, my love?"
"R-Right, as her husband, it’s my responsibility," Henry responded, feeling uncertain about what to do. However, when Amy winked at him and tightly grasped his hand, he decided to go with the flow and address his concerns with her later.
As everyone at the table pampered Amy, showering her with praises and offering food, she graciously accepted their gestures. Meanwhile, Henry observed the scene with persistent confusion, watching his wife smile at everyone and patiently answer their questions. The bewilderment in his mind continued, leaving him eager to understand the true nature of Amy’s actions and intentions.
However, when Henry made a mistake, Amy lashed out at him and tears welled up in her eyes, like a child in distress. Despite this, she continued to outwardly project a sense of happiness, successfully concealing the fact that she was not actually pregnant from everyone present. The clear contrast between her behavior towards Henry and her temperament with others only deepened the mystery for him.
The joyful exchanges of reminders and advice from the ’future aunts and uncles’, continued throughout breakfast, creating an atmosphere of happiness for everyone present. The morning proved to be pleasant and filled with positive energy, leaving a sense of contentment in the air as breakfast almost come to an end.
"Sorry, babe, but I can’t stay with you any longer. You know I have to go to work, so take care of yourself and our future nephew or niece," Mary said to Amy with a hint of regret. If it’s up to her, she wanted to stay by Amy’s side but she knows that it’s just not possible, and besides she needs to perform her duties in Bellory as she promised to Amy.
She then turned her attention to Henry and continued, "I expect more from you, Henry. Don’t spoil her, but ensure she gets plenty of rest, alright?" Mary exclaimed, pointing out the importance of caring for Amy’s well-being.
After everyone had gone their way, the smile on Amy’s face remained intact, much to Henry’s surprise. He had expected her to be furious with him for announcing her not-so-real pregnancy once they were alone, but instead, she appeared calm and happy, even excited.
"Charles, could you please ask the maids to bring all these gifts to our room?" Amy requested, gesturing towards the variety of presents. She then proceeded to grab a large, seemingly heavy box.
"Oh, Madam, please don’t carry that. It’s heavy, and it’s not good for you or the baby," Charles exclaimed in a panic.
"Don’t worry, Charles. I’m not pregnant," Amy chuckled as she stepped out of the dining room, still carrying the big box.
"Sir?" Charles called out to Henry, clearly confused by the turn of events.
"You heard her correctly, Charles. We are not pregnant," Henry affirmed, giving Charles a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
Henry then briskly walk to catch up with Amy, and when he finally did, he offered his help, "Love, let me carry that for you."
Amy nodded and gently handed him the box, "Woah, this is a little heavy," he said after accepting the box.
"I know right, what do you this it is?" Amy asked excitedly.
"Let’s find out," Henry said before walking faster so they can reach their room faster.
Henry placed it on top of their coffee table before Amy excitedly open it. It was from Mary, and when they finally saw what was inside, they both smiled. It is a cute baby sofa, in color green with a frog’s head as its back.
Amy stood up and took the white teddy bear that Henry gave her yesterday and put it on top of the baby sofa.
"See, it belongs there, a perfect match!" Amy chuckled as she lean her back against the sofa while staring at the bear sitting on the frog sofa.
"Love, why didn’t you tell them you are not pregnant?" Henry can’t keep it any longer, he must know her answer.
"Because... I like to open the gifts," Amy laugh at how childish she was. She knows that it was a shallow reason to fool everyone but since no one had even asked her if she is really pregnant or not to confirm then she decided to play a little prank on them and take all the gifts that they bought for her.
"Really, Amy? Just because of that?"
Amy’s laughter intensified as she witnessed the incredulous expression on Henry’s face. She had a plan to apologize to everyone later, but for now, she intended to let them continue believing whatever assumptions they had made.
She wanted them to learn from their mistake and understand the importance of verifying information before jumping to conclusions. With a mischievous gleam in her eyes, Amy relished the opportunity to teach this valuable lesson.
Soon the maids came in with all the gifts Amy receive and spend her morning opening them up and trying them on to the bear that Henry gave her.
