Chapter 198: COO of Bellory

After quickly thinking about it, Anton found a way to help Roana without risking his relationship with Mary. "There’s no job vacancy in my office, but Amy’s company is currently hiring. I can talk to their HR head and Mary and try to secure a position for you there. Hold on let me call Josephine right now," And before Roana could say anything, Anton already turned around and move a little farther away from them dialing Josphine’s number.

The conversation between Anton and Josephine on the phone was very short and he quickly informed them of the outcome. "They have several vacant positions that need to be filled. The HR head herself is in need of an assistant to help with clerical tasks, and I believe it would be a good starting point for you. It also presents an opportunity for your career growth. You won’t need to go anywhere else; if you like it there, you can stay for the long term," Anton explained.

"Why would you involve Mary in this?" Roana inquired, her interest piqued by Anton’s unexpected mention.

"Mary is the COO of Bellory, she has more power than Josephine. Whoever Josephine hires, Mary can easily remove them. And we don’t want to piss off the company owner’s right-hand woman right?" Anton explained, emphasizing her authority and influence within the company. His words carried an implicit warning to Roana, indicating that her actions could potentially anger her future superior.

Roana nodded, grateful for the opportunity, and asked, "When can I go there?"

"You can come with us today, and I’ll introduce you to the HR head so you can start right away," Anton replied.

However, another problem arose as Roana’s mom interjected, "There’s one more issue, Anton. Our house is far from here, and we don’t have the money to afford a hotel for Roana while she waits for her first salary.

Would it be possible for her to stay with you just for a week? I promise we’ll assist her in finding a low-cost apartment in the city. Please, Anton, help us."

Even though Anton hated the idea, Roana’s parents have always been good to him, and agreeing to their request is the least that he can do. What harm can Roana do to him in a week anyway, he thought.

He is a grown man and he can definitely avoid Roana in a week easily. With his decision made, it was settled and Anton called up his housekeeper to fix a room for Roana before returning to Mary.

Mary noticed an obvious shift in the atmosphere upon everyone’s return. Roana and her parents appeared content, their expressions displaying a sense of satisfaction. On the other hand, Anton wore a troubled expression, his face marked with a frown. Concerned about the change in ambiance, Mary swiftly took Anton aside, intending to find out what had happened.

"What’s going on?" Mary asked, her voice tinged with curiosity and worry as she sought an explanation from Anton.

"What? Are you out of your mind? Why did you do that?" Mary’s voice rose with a mixture of disbelief and anger as Anton revealed his actions. She couldn’t contain her emotional outburst, knowing the potential implications of his decision.

Anton, attempting to justify his choice, responded, "It’s just for a week, and I’m doing this for her parents and her son. Children need their mothers while growing up."

"Perhaps ’the son’ is better off without the mother!" Mary’s retort was laced with frustration as she struggled to control her urge to shout at Anton. Despite her efforts, the depth of her upset was evident.

"Look, Mary, it’s only for a week," Anton pleaded, hoping to appease her concerns. "And if they can’t find a place for her in that time, I’ll personally help her find one so she can’t extend her stay. I assure you, she’s smart and hardworking, and she could be a valuable asset to your company."

"A smart woman who makes stupid decisions!" Mary emphasized.

"Yes, that one too," Anton couldn’t agree more but Roana is more than that too.

Mary crossed her arms, still visibly agitated. She took a moment to compose herself before responding. "Anton, I understand your intentions, but bringing her into our life puts our relationship in a very stressful situation. We don’t need unnecessary complications. Can’t you see the potential problems this could cause?"

Anton sighed, realizing the weight of Mary’s concerns. "I know what I feel about you and nothing and no one can change that. But it’s also an opportunity for Roana to turn her life around. I’m willing to take that chance and support her for the sake of her parents and her son. Please, just give her a fair chance."

Mary hesitated, her frustration evident in her eyes. She took a deep breath and reluctantly nodded. "Fine, Anton. I’ll give her a chance, and remember, she needs to prove herself if she wants to stay."

Anton nodded gratefully, understanding the compromise they had reached. It was clear that Mary still had reservations, but for the time being, they would have to navigate this situation together. "I already warned her to behave. Try her first, if she will anger you in a week then kick her out," Anton said.

"You bet I will!" Mary did not argue any further and returned to the hallway of Amy’s room. Anton’s parents were already there waiting for them to return together with Henry.

"Mary, Amy wanted to talk to you before you leave," Henry said.

Mary went in after glaring at Roana who bowed her head.

"Woah, who pissed you off?" Amy asked as soon as she saw Mary’s expression.

"Anton and her ex!"

"Looks like someone is jealous," Amy chuckled.

"She is clearly trying to get into Anton’s pants! Yes, that’s right, she is doing this to get Anton back! Well, good luck to her because that’s not gonna happen!" Mary scoffed, her anger still simmering beneath the surface.

Amy laughed and Mary frowned wondering what is going on. Here she is telling her best friend how angry she is, only to be laughed at.

"I am sorry best, but maybe you are just overreacting. Anton’s parents went to see us to ask for a favor and if we can give Roana a job. She’s trying to win the custody case of her son, do you think she will still have time to flirt with Anton? I don’t think so...

Anton’s parents also said that I should talk to you to inform you to be patient with her. She has no filter in her words and most of the time people misinterpret her because of that."

"Anton already talked to Josephine and already found a position for her. And this is before telling me about it! Grrr I am so angry at Anton right now!" Mary said.

"Relax haha! Aw Aw..." Amy winced as she felt a sudden pain in her lower abdomen."Don’t make me laugh, it hurts when I laugh! Ha ha! Ouch!" Amy exclaimed.
