CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 177: Backpack
"Cut off? What do you mean cut off!?" Amy yelled but Henry did not answer her and grabbed her hand as he pulled her to the door.
Amy’s eyes widened and was utterly horrified when she saw Henry open the plane’s door. She felt her body turn cold and heavy. It was as if everything is not real.
Henry looked at her and uttered in a calm voice, "I love you, Amy. You are the best thing that happened to my life."
Tears flooded her eyes, she was terrified and scared. Henry kissed her and shouted, "We jump on three! Do you understand?"
Amy quickly wiped her tears and nodded. Henry counted up to three and together they jumped out of the plane while they are holding each other’s hand.
They freefall but it was not like the skydiving that they did before. This dive was full of fear, uncertainty, and distress. All the negative feelings that Amy knows, she felt at that moment.
When they were at three thousand feet, Henry’s automatic activation device got triggered and automatically released his parachute... Amy’s gear did not.
The impact of the deployment and their freefall made Henry lose grip on Amy’s hand. She fell faster than him as Henry glided in the air with his parachutes on.
"Amyyy!!!"
Henry looked down in terror as he watch Amy fall faster below. He tried to calm himself thinking of ways since they are above water and it is much safer than falling on the ground. However, he knows that its impact is still very dangerous if Amy falls into the water in the wrong position.
He told himself, she will be ok. She is Amy, his wife, and Amy is brave and trained. She knows what to do in a situation like this. He made sure of that, that’s why she had Ava, Mitch, and Dave.
True enough, Amy tried to manually deploy her parachute. She pulls the handle with all her might to only see it on her hand completely detached and cut off from the rest of her gear.
She knows what do to, she didn’t panic. She quickly switches to the second parachute, the reserved one, only to find out that there is none.
Amy looked up in the sky and saw Henry safely descending with his neon orange parachute. She smiled and lifted her feet and hugged them both before breathing in deep.
Before long, she heard the splashing of water that soon envelop her. After she felt her speed decline, she released her knees from her embrace and started to flutter her legs.
She managed to remove the gear holding her parachute as she swims up to the surface. It was only now that she was thankful for all the training she did with her brother when she was young. The extensive workout that Ava and her security team made her do was very helpful as well.
In no time, she was able to emerge from the water and she looked up and saw Henry almost near the water as well. She removed the backpack that she grabbed from the plane earlier and did an elementary backstroke in Henry’s direction.
She wanted to reserve as much energy as she could for she knows that their rescue might not arrive as soon as they wanted to.
Henry felt relieved when he saw Amy emerge from the water. He was crying and shouting when he saw her drop into the sea. But when he finally saw her alive and swimming to him, he thanked all the gods that he have ever heard of.
He inflated the life jacket that was attached to his gear before dropping into the sea. He swam as fast as he could in Amy’s direction while holding the small backpack that Amy threw at him earlier.
"Amy!!!"
His voice thundered the open seas as he shouted as loud as he could.
Amy heard him and looked in his direction. She smiled and waved. "I’m ok!"
She swam freestyle, trying to get to him as fast as she could.
When they finally reach each other, Henry held her so tight as he sobs once more.
"Oh, God, thank you, God, thank you, Lord!" Henry exclaimed as tears surge uncontrollably from his eyes.
"I am ok, my love. Your wife is strong, did you forget that? And smart too!" Amy tried to hold her tears for this is not the time for her to cry or become weak. They are not out of the woods yet.
They are still floating in the middle of the ocean to god-knows-where. Who knows when will they be rescued or what creatures are lurking underneath their feet?
"I am just glad you are alive!" Henry said as he try to calm himself down.
"Henry, hold me. Let me get something," Amy then unzips the bag that she was holding after Henry secured her in his arms. She pulled out a pink self-inflating pool float, and Henry’s jaw dropped at the sight of it.
"How the hell did you manage to get that?" He asks in bewilderment.
"I saw it from the resort diving shop so I bought it. It’s for Jena, she likes pink. I knew it would come in handy!" Amy said as she smiles and pats her back in her mind for a job well done.
But her surprise is not done, "That bag is for Jayson, get the blue one."
And again, Henry’s jaw dropped. Amy didn’t only manage to get them a float to ride while waiting for their rescue but she manage to bring two!
"Ok, so what else do you have in your backpack, Dora?" Henry jested as he pull out and inflates the blue self-inflating float of Jayson.
Amy laughed. She cannot believe that Henry can still make her laugh even though they are fighting for their lives, not knowing if they will survive or not.
"Not much, my love. Just some products from the village, snacks, and beach clothes that are surely wet now," Amy said with a sigh as she remember their situation and where they at. They would need water soon, the most important thing that they don’t have in their backpacks.
