Chapter 77: Chapter 77: I Love Taming Proud People Like You

Melody Donovan had been drinking nonstop. She had no idea how many bottles she’d had, but it was clear from the ones on the table that it was a lot.

"Miss, you’re drunk. Should I call a car for you?" a waiter asked, walking over and bowing respectfully.

"Oh, no, that’s okay. I have a friend here. Thank you!"

The waiter bowed once more before walking away.

Melody Donovan glanced at her watch. It was already ten o’clock, which was definitely late. She got up, planning to go to the restroom to touch up her makeup, and then drive home.

The restroom was empty. Everyone was out in the main hall having fun—especially that man.

After touching up her makeup, she pulled out her phone, intending to call Summer Lancaster and tell her she was heading home. But before she could dial the number, the restroom door opened. Melody glanced up casually, and her eyes met Dominic Thorne’s face in the mirror.

’Okay, I’m in the right place. This is the women’s restroom. So why is this man here? Is he planning to... with Sary in the bathroom? Is he that desperate?’

She quickly threw her makeup into her bag, smoothed out her clothes, and tried to make a panicked escape.

"Not happy to see me?" Dominic Thorne had been watching her since the moment he entered, taking in her surprise, anxiety, nervousness, and panic.

Melody stopped at his words but didn’t turn to face him. "No."

Dominic turned and walked to her side. "So blunt? But I wanted to see you."

"If you’re just looking for a game, I’m afraid I can’t..."

"We can date," Dominic Thorne cut in before she could finish.

Melody’s anger finally boiled over. She spun around and swung her arm, preparing to slap him with every ounce of her strength.

Just as her hand was an inch from his face, he reached out and stopped it.

"It’s only been a few days, and you’ve already gotten quite a temper. You’re not the sweet little underclassman who gave me that heartfelt confession the other night."

Melody yanked her hand free. ’That night... How dare he bring up that night?’

"You heard wrong. I didn’t confess to you!"

"Are there that many people in the world named Dominic Thorne?"

Melody was speechless. Truthfully, she didn’t remember what she’d said that night at all. She had blacked out, which was the only reason she’d been foolish enough to do what she did. Then again, thinking back, she probably would have done it even if she’d been sober. After all, this was the man she had been in love with for five years.

’There was one more thing: Melody had no idea what Dominic had been thinking when he slept with her. Was there even a tiny bit of affection in it for him, or was it just a game between two adults?’

She stared intently at Dominic Thorne. His face always held such an innocent, harmless expression, one that made you unconsciously fall into his tender trap.

’She wondered, if she had confessed to him back in college, she might have still gotten hurt, but at least it wouldn’t have been a mess like this. College couples broke up and got back together all the time. She would have been like most girls—have a good cry, say she hated his guts, and then, with time, gradually forget the man she once despised.’

But time couldn’t be turned back, and it certainly didn’t wait for you to prepare for your regrets.

Dominic suddenly moved closer, and Melody instinctively took a step back. He advanced on her, step by step, until her next retreat had her bumping into the wall.

Her eyes darted nervously as she looked at the man. "Wh-what are you trying to do?"

Dominic braced his hand against the wall. "I love taming proud people like you!" With that, he leaned in for a kiss.
