Chapter 47: Chapter 47: You’ll Have to Get Used to It

Nothing was more touching than having someone watch over you. Wasn’t the "imprisonment" he spoke of just another way of saying he’d do just that?

At that moment, Summer Lancaster truly believed they could be this happy for the rest of their lives...

"Kenneth, where are you going to sleep?" Summer Lancaster asked, lost in his tenderness.

"There’s only one bed here."

Summer Lancaster sat up, staring at him in surprise. "You’re going to sleep here? You should just go home." ’The big boss wants to sleep with me in this tiny bed?’ she thought. ’With his height, I’m afraid it won’t hold up.’

Kenneth Yates paid her no mind, taking off his jacket and lying down on the small bed. The already tiny bed looked even smaller now.

"What are you doing?" Seeing her about to get out of bed, Kenneth quickly stopped her.

Summer Lancaster blushed, avoiding his gaze. "I need to use the bathroom."

Kenneth watched her. ’How can this woman be so adorable?’ He scooped Summer Lancaster into his arms and started toward the bathroom.

"Put me down! My legs aren’t injured," Summer Lancaster protested, squirming. "How can I possibly trouble you with something like going to the bathroom..." Her voice grew softer and softer until she finally buried her face in Kenneth’s chest.

"You’ll have to get used to it," Kenneth murmured, leaning close to her ear as he watched her shy expression. Summer Lancaster was mortified. ’Get used to this, too? What a total pervert...’

"You can just put me down here." Kenneth set her on her feet but showed no intention of leaving. Seeing this, Summer Lancaster pushed at him. "What are you still doing in here? Get out!"

Kenneth chuckled. "Is there any part of you I haven’t seen? What’s there to be shy about?"

Summer Lancaster was speechless. Then, in a fit of rage, she shoved Kenneth out of the room with all her might.

Outside the door, Kenneth covered his face, a smile spreading across it. ’She’s still got so much strength, so it looks like she’s fine. I was really worried.’ If something had truly happened to Summer Lancaster, he wouldn’t have given a damn about connections or past favors. He would have made the entire West Family pay with their lives.

A short while later, Summer Lancaster emerged from the bathroom, her face flushed. Seeing her, Kenneth scooped her up again. With steady steps, he carried her to the bed and laid her down before lying beside her. The two of them fell asleep in each other’s arms, squeezed together on the tiny bed.

「Francelia」

The night streets were exceptionally quiet, with only the occasional fallen leaf drifting about. A black Maybach sped past, kicking up a flurry of leaves in its wake.

Inside the car, everyone’s expression was grim. Even the normally wisecracking Sean Murphy and Dominic Thorne wore stern masks, their faces as dark and forbidding as demons from hell.

The fact that Carls dared to contact them again after breaking their deal meant he had to be fully prepared.

The car stopped in front of an abandoned factory, and the three men got out one by one. Carls had told them not to bring any men if they didn’t want this getting out. They had no choice but to go in alone.

"Carls, how have you been?" The moment Dominic Thorne stepped inside, he spotted Carls sitting on a luxurious chair. The man was looking considerably more haggard.

"Heh. No need for Young Master Thorne to concern himself with me." Carls waved a hand, and one of his men immediately brought over a contract. "Let’s talk business." He slapped the document onto the yellowed table.

"If I recall correctly, you were the one who broke our agreement," Dominic Thorne said, his eyes sweeping over them with contempt before he sat down across from Carls. "What’s the matter? Did you realize your new partner wasn’t offering as much as we were, so you came crawling back?" ’There are only five of them. If we have to fight our way out, we’ve got a good chance.’

"Young Master Thorne, we’ve been partners for so many years," Carls said, gently pushing his chair back a bit. "Surely you won’t disregard our entire history over this?"
