CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 100: The Girl Who Can Change You
It was a touching sentiment, but Summer Lancaster couldn’t bring herself to be happy. She wanted to share their entire world with him.
"Summer, what are you going to do about Audrey Adler?" Kenneth Yates’s sudden question made Summer Lancaster stiffen. She’d been so wrapped up in their conversation that she had almost forgotten about it. ’She is my half-sister, after all,’ she thought. ’It’s not Audrey I’m worried about... but will Father hate me?’
Seeing that she didn’t answer for a long while, her head lowered and brows furrowed in a helpless frown, Kenneth Yates gently took her hand. "Don’t worry. Just be yourself. I’ll take care of the rest. Sometimes, the people who seem closest to you are the ones with ulterior motives."
"Huh?" Summer Lancaster was confused by what he said.
"It’s nothing. Don’t overthink it. If you don’t want to press charges, we can just drop it."
But Summer Lancaster truly couldn’t let this go. In the past, they had always found ways to cause her trouble, but it had never escalated to threatening her life. This time, however, Summer had felt a profound sense of terror. The feeling of wanting to escape but being held down was like being trapped in hell, with no way out. Her heart had plunged into utter panic. Summer truly didn’t dare to imagine what would have happened that day if Kenneth Yates hadn’t arrived!
The thought alone made her skin crawl.
"Let’s press charges. It’s time they learned a lesson!" She had finally made her decision. ’So what if those two become my enemies? I still have Kenneth Yates, and I have my father.’
"Good." Kenneth Yates smiled, relieved. ’Sometimes she’s too gentle. She doesn’t know how to protect herself, so she’s the one who always gets hurt. But the one who feels the most pain is me!’
A little while later, Lianne Vance and Lawrence Yates arrived at the hospital. They had been traveling abroad and had no idea Kenneth Yates was injured. They only found out upon returning to the country today and had rushed over immediately.
Seeing that they were both all right, Lianne Vance was able to relax.
"Kenneth, Summer, are you two all right?"
"Mom, look at us. We’re still alive and kicking!" Summer Lancaster sat up, greeting her mother-in-law with a radiant smile.
"That’s good. As long as you’re okay."
Nearby, Lawrence Yates walked over to Kenneth Yates and gently patted his shoulder. "You all right?"
"I’m fine, Dad. It was Summer who gave me blood. She’s the real hero here." Kenneth Yates’s gaze toward Summer Lancaster was filled with adoration and tenderness.
"Son, do you know why I insisted that you marry Summer all those years ago?"
Kenneth Yates snapped back to reality. He had always assumed it was just a marriage for business purposes. ’Could there be another reason?’
"You always overcomplicate things. Life is meant to be simple. It’s not about flowers and applause, but about steady, day-to-day peace. Summer is the kind of pure-hearted girl who can change you." Lawrence Yates glanced toward the innocent, harmless young woman. Her smile held no artifice; it came straight from the heart.
A small smile touched the corner of Kenneth Yates’s lips. ’She was always so clumsy when they were kids, unable to do anything right. But Mommy would never scold her, patiently teaching her instead. And whenever she finally succeeded at something, she would burst into uninhibited laughter.’
’Thinking back, even as a boy, he would find himself mesmerized watching her. She wasn’t good at things, but her expression was always so determined. She never gave up, no matter how many times she failed.’
"Kenneth, once you’ve recovered, you need to get to work on making a baby! Your father and I are getting so bored every day." As if to steer the conversation away from a sensitive topic, Lianne Vance suddenly changed the subject, aiming it straight at Kenneth Yates.
