Chapter 85: 85. Adrian’s Dream.

"The day I married her, I promised to protect her. Dying with that promise unfulfilled is my greatest regret."

The old man had his back to Adrian, Adrian called out to the old man. "Whom are you talking about, Sir?"

The old man was still looking ahead as if he hadn’t noticed Adrian, He tilted his head up and whispered with the wind. "The world told me to let her go, but how can you let go of the person who gave you your greatest dreams?"

Hearing the choking in the old man’s voice, Adrian asked. "Was she your beloved?"

"Of course. She was the life of mine. I married her but She wasn’t just my wife; she was the heartbeat of my life. When she vanished, the rhythm of my world faltered."

Adrian felt sympathy for the old man. He recalled that when he heard that Ethan was kidnapped his heart had almost paused for a moment. He wanted to be with Ethan.

It was only a week but for Adrian it was like a whole year had gone by.

So when he saw the old man who had lost his beloved. Adrian wanted to let the old man relax and share his emotions to his heart light.

However, Adrian suddenly heard Ethan’s voice.

Ethan sat by the edge of the bed, his hands shaking as he gently shook Adrian’s shoulder for what felt like the hundredth time. Adrian’s face was pale, his body drenched in sweat as his head tossed slightly on the pillow.

His black hair clung to his forehead, matted with perspiration, and his breath came in uneven gasps. Ethan’s heart pounded, panic settling deep in his chest.

"Adrian, wake up," Ethan pleaded, his voice hoarse with worry. "Please, love, open your eyes."

No response.

Ethan’s hands moved to cup Adrian’s cheeks, his thumbs gently brushing the damp skin as he leaned closer. "Adrian! Wake up! It’s me. Ethan."

Still nothing. Ethan’s stomach twisted painfully. It had been over ten minutes since this started, and nothing he did could rouse Adrian from the strange nightmare he seemed trapped in. Adrian’s brow furrowed as if in pain, his lips parting slightly to murmur something unintelligible, but his eyes remained closed.

Panic surged. Ethan grabbed his phone from the bedside table, his fingers trembling as he prepared to call Lucas. Just as he was about to hit the dial button, Adrian’s eyes fluttered open.

The relief that washed over Ethan was immediate and overwhelming. He dropped the phone and leaned forward, pulling Adrian into a tight embrace.

"Adrian! Thank God!" Ethan exclaimed, his voice thick with emotion.

Adrian blinked slowly, his silver eyes hazy with confusion. He looked up at Ethan, his expression groggy. "Ethan... What happened?" His voice was soft, laced with fatigue.

Ethan kissed Adrian’s forehead, his lips lingering as if the act could ward off whatever nightmare had plagued his husband. "Nothing, love. Everything is fine now. You were having a bad dream. I’ve got you."

Adrian sighed and relaxed into Ethan’s arms. He rested his head on Ethan’s chest, his breathing gradually evening out. Ethan cradled him protectively, running his fingers through Adrian’s damp hair to soothe him.

"You should sleep," Ethan murmured. "I’ll be right here. Nothing will happen to you."

Adrian nodded weakly and closed his eyes again, slipping back into slumber, this time more peacefully. Ethan remained still, holding him tightly as if afraid to let go. He waited until he was certain Adrian was truly asleep before carefully laying him back on the bed.

Ethan sat back, his mind racing. Something wasn’t right. He couldn’t shake the image of Adrian’s eyes when he’d woken up—silver, as usual, but tinged with a strange green hue. It was faint, like a wisp of ethereal energy surrounding his irises. It had vanished almost as quickly as it appeared, but the sight left Ethan deeply unsettled.

His fingers brushed Adrian’s hair aside as he leaned down to press another kiss to his forehead. "I’ll protect you, Adrian," Ethan whispered, his voice filled with determination. "No matter what it takes."

Standing, Ethan grabbed his phone again, intending to call Lucas for advice. He stepped out of the bedroom quietly, shutting the door behind him to avoid disturbing Adrian.

The phone rang twice before it was picked up, but the voice on the other end wasn’t Lucas’s.

"Yo," Isaac drawled, sounding far too casual for the situation.

Ethan frowned, confused. "Isaac? Why are you answering Lucas’s phone? Where’s Lucas?"

Isaac chuckled lightly, the sound infuriatingly nonchalant. "Where do you think? It’s late, Ethan. Where else would I be if not with my lover?"

Ethan’s grip on the phone tightened. "Excuse me? You’re with Lucas... at this hour?"

"Obviously," Isaac replied, a smirk evident in his tone. "Where else would I be? He’s right here, sleeping like the angel he is. What do you want?"

Ethan scowled, his irritation growing. "I don’t want to talk to you, Isaac. Give the phone to Lucas." freewebnσvel.cѳm

Isaac sighed dramatically. "Sorry, no can do. Lucas is tired. He’s asleep. And I don’t want to wake him up for something trivial."

"This isn’t trivial!" Ethan snapped, his voice dropping to a sharp whisper to avoid waking Adrian. "It’s important. Now give him the phone."

"Nope," Isaac replied smugly. "Call him tomorrow. He needs his rest. Good night, Ethan."

Before Ethan could respond, Isaac hung up.

Ethan stared at the phone in disbelief, his jaw clenching in frustration. "That bastard," he muttered under his breath.

Pacing the hallway, Ethan ran a hand through his hair, his mind spinning. He needed answers, but with Lucas unavailable thanks to Isaac’s antics, he’d have to wait. That didn’t mean he was going to let Isaac off the hook, though.

"Mark my words," Ethan growled to himself. "I’m breaking that guy’s legs first thing in the morning."

He pocketed his phone and returned to the bedroom. Adrian was still sound asleep, his breathing steady and his expression calm. Ethan’s heart ached as he watched his husband, the earlier panic still lingering at the edges of his mind.

Settling back into bed, Ethan pulled Adrian into his arms once more, holding him close. He wouldn’t let anything happen to him. Not now, not ever.

The next morning, Ethan was up early, his mood sour as he prepared to confront Isaac. After ensuring Adrian was still resting comfortably, Ethan left the house and drove straight to Lucas’s apartment.

When he arrived, he didn’t bother knocking and instead banged on the door loudly.

Isaac opened the door, shirtless and looking entirely too pleased with himself. "Ah, Ethan. What a lovely surprise. To what do I owe the honor?"

Ethan didn’t waste time with pleasantries. He pushed past Isaac and strode into the apartment. "Where’s Lucas?"

Isaac closed the door and leaned against it, crossing his arms with a smirk. "He’s still sleeping. Told you he needed rest. But, since you’re here, want to have breakfast? I make a mean omelet."

Ethan glared at him. "I’m not here to eat. I need to talk to Lucas about something important. Life-threateningly important."

Isaac’s expression sobered slightly at the mention of life-threatening, but he quickly masked it with his usual nonchalance. "Fine, fine. But if you wake him up and he’s grumpy, that’s on you."

Ethan rolled his eyes and made his way to Lucas’s bedroom. Isaac followed, leaning against the doorframe as Ethan gently shook Lucas awake.

Lucas blinked up at him groggily, his brows furrowing in confusion. "Ethan? What are you doing here so early?"

Ethan sat on the edge of the bed, ignoring Isaac’s amused gaze from the doorway. "Lucas, I need your help. Something happened with Adrian last night, and I’m worried it’s serious."

Lucas sat up, rubbing his eyes. "What happened?"

Ethan explained the incident from the night before, including the strange green hue in Adrian’s eyes. As he spoke, Lucas’s expression shifted from concern to intrigue.

"That’s... unusual," Lucas said thoughtfully. "The green hue—are you sure you weren’t imagining it?"

Ethan shook his head firmly. "I know what I saw, Lucas. It was faint, but it was there."

Lucas frowned, deep in thought. "It could be a sign of something genetic or neurological. We’ll need to run some tests to be sure."

Isaac, who had been quiet until now, finally spoke up. "You’re saying Adrian might have some kind of mutation or disorder? That’s wild. Are we talking superpowers or something bad?"

Ethan shot him a withering glare. "This isn’t a joke, Isaac."

Isaac raised his hands in mock surrender. "Relax, I’m just trying to lighten the mood. No need to get all murdery on me."

Lucas ignored the exchange and turned back to Ethan. "Bring Adrian to the hospital later today. I’ll run a full examination. In the meantime, try to keep him calm and avoid stressing him out."

Ethan nodded, his determination renewed. "Thank you, Lucas."

Isaac grinned. "See? That’s why I keep him around. Smart and handsome. What a catch."

Ethan rolled his eyes. "Try not to make everything about you, Isaac."

Isaac smirked. "Can’t help it. I’m naturally charming."

Lucas sighed, already regretting waking up. "Both of you, stop. Let’s focus on Adrian, okay?"

Ethan nodded, ignoring Isaac’s smug expression. "I’ll bring Adrian in later. Thanks, Lucas. And Isaac..." He glared at the other man. "Stay out of my way."

Isaac grinned, unbothered. "No promises."

After seeing Ethan off, Lucas glared at Isaac and demanded some answers.

"Why are you here again? Why the hell are you shirtless?! And now tell me the important thing...Why do you not seem so worried about Adrian?"

Isaac gulped, His wife is so sharp.
