CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 115 - 113: Do I Really Have to Die to Show You 5
"Yes..."
Sean Donovan fell silent on the other end of the line, not speaking for a long time. A wave of unease washed over Naomi Shaw. She remembered vowing to Sean Donovan that she would have no more contact with Julian Donovan. But now, here she was with Julian. As Sean Donovan’s girlfriend, she knew full well that this could easily cause a misunderstanding.
"Save me some dinner tonight!"
That was all Sean Donovan said before hanging up. His simple response only made Naomi Shaw’s guilt more intense. After ending the call, she ignored Julian Donovan completely. ’If he hadn’t kept pestering me, I wouldn’t be in this awkward situation.’
Julian Donovan was in no mood to talk to her either. The thought of Sean Donovan coming back, of her being so intimate with him again, felt like something was viciously tearing his heart apart. He couldn’t stand another day of this. He desperately needed to snatch her back to his side and cherish her properly.
When they arrived home, Dylan was awake. Since he had school the next day, he had to go back with Julian Donovan. Still sleepy-eyed, Dylan leaned against the car window, looking pleadingly at his mother, who was standing by the car door holding Joy.
"Mom, my school has an event in a few days. They said parents are supposed to come. Will you be there?"
"Uh..."
Naomi Shaw was conflicted. Although she and Julian Donovan were Dylan’s parents, they were divorced. ’It wouldn’t be right for us to attend Dylan’s school event together,’ she thought. Besides, she didn’t want to go with Julian. So, she tried to put Dylan off.
"We’ll see when the time comes. If Mommy has time, I’ll go. If not, you can just have your dad find a pretty auntie to go with you!"
"I don’t want some pretty auntie!"
Dylan protested unhappily. She could only try to soothe him.
"Alright, head home for now. We’ll talk about it later!"
Only then did Dylan reluctantly say goodbye and duck back into the car. While she was talking with Dylan, Julian Donovan had been leaning against the car, smoking. Now, he tossed the cigarette butt aside and stared at her, a sharp chill in his eyes.
"I’ll say this one last time. Break up with Sean Donovan immediately. You shouldn’t be with him!"
For now, he didn’t want to tell her about his volatile relationship with Sean Donovan. He was afraid she would think he was only trying to win her back as revenge against Sean. When her trust in him was still so fragile, he didn’t want to take that risk.
After saying this, Julian Donovan turned, got in the car with Dylan, and drove away. Naomi Shaw stood frozen in place, his words demanding she break up with Sean Donovan echoing in her mind, her heart a tangled mess.
「Port Sterling International Airport.」
A woman with short, sharp hair and sunglasses emerged, pushing a luggage cart. Even with the sunglasses, it was clear she had a beautiful face. Her well-tailored black suit and the slight purse of her lips gave her a formidable air. A representative from the Port Sterling hotel, who had been waiting at the exit, was there to pick her up. She gave them a polite smile before following them out of the arrivals hall.
Not far behind her, a gentle-looking man with gold-rimmed glasses stood frozen, his gaze locked on her slender, familiar yet foreign back. He didn’t even notice when the laptop bag in his hand fell heavily to the floor. The person next to him, who looked like an assistant, picked it up for him.
"Professor Joyce, what’s wrong?"
The man suddenly clutched his chest, his face turning deathly pale as he doubled over in pain. The young assistant rushed forward to support him.
"Professor Joyce, are you unwell? Why the sudden attack?"
The man struggled to brace himself against a nearby pillar, gasping for breath in agony.
"It’s nothing, it’s nothing... It’ll pass in a moment..."
When the man looked up, the young assistant was stunned to see a single tear at the corner of his eye that he hadn’t had time to wipe away.
Three years had passed. Ronan Joyce never expected to run into her in a place like this. Of course, she hadn’t seen him. Her current mature and capable appearance was completely foreign to him. The her he remembered had always been wild and unrestrained. And yet, he recognized this version of her in a single glance.
’How could I not recognize her? She’s been seared onto my heart. No matter what she looks like, I would always know it’s her.’
The spot on his chest where she had once shot him began to throb with stabbing pains the moment she appeared. It hadn’t hurt this much when he was actually shot, so why was it so unbearable now?
’Lara Nash... Lara Nash...’
He repeated the name over and over in his mind. When he opened his eyes again, he had reverted to the calm, enigmatic physics professor. He was now a professor at Meridia’s largest physics laboratory; many of the new weapons developed in Meridia were a credit to his work.
’Today, while I might not be wealthy enough to rival a nation, I am, at the very least... powerful enough to rival her family.’
Sean Donovan returned a little after nine in the evening. Joy was already asleep, and Naomi Shaw was waiting for him. She had just finished reheating his dinner before he arrived. Sean looked utterly exhausted. As she took his luggage from him in the entryway, he suddenly reached out and pulled her into his arms, letting his full weight rest against her. His voice was tired and weak.
"Anna, I’m so tired..."
Her body stiffened slightly.
"If you’re tired, eat your dinner and get some rest. I’ve already made the bed for you."
Whenever Sean Donovan came back from a long business trip, he would stay at her place, saying it brought him warmth and peace. She didn’t know what he did on his trips that left him so weary, but she never pried or asked too many questions about his affairs.
Sean Donovan didn’t let go. Still holding her, he asked in a somewhat lost tone,
"Anna, am I a good person or a bad person?"
Naomi Shaw thought he was acting a little strange tonight. She gently pushed him back, looked into his somewhat helpless eyes, and said earnestly,
"No matter what anyone else thinks of you, in my eyes... you’re a good person!"
’Everyone has a different definition of good and bad. I don’t have some grand, worldly perspective. I’m just an ordinary woman. In my eyes, anyone who is good to me is a good person.’ 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"Thank you, Anna!"
A relieved smile appeared on Sean Donovan’s face. After saying that, he stepped into the house.
Naomi Shaw put his luggage away, then went to check the water temperature in the bathroom before sitting down at the dining table. She was like a young wife waiting for her husband to come home late. Watching her bustle about, Sean Donovan’s eyes softened.
Halfway through his meal, Sean Donovan took a call. He glanced at Naomi Shaw, who was in the kitchen getting him another bowl of rice, then stepped out onto the balcony. He gave a few quiet instructions before coming back inside.
Seeing how drowsy she looked, Sean Donovan reached out and ruffled her soft hair.
"Sorry to make you wait up so late. Go on to bed!"
Naomi Shaw shook her head.
"It’s okay. I’ll wait for you to finish so I can clean up."
Sean Donovan smiled dotingly.
"Come on, I promise you’ll wake up to a sparkling clean kitchen tomorrow!"
He then nudged her toward the bedroom door. Naomi Shaw felt a little embarrassed.
"Well, I’ll go to sleep then. You get some rest soon, too!"
Sean Donovan nodded, and only then did she return to the bedroom to sleep, holding Joy in her arms.
The next day, Naomi Shaw got up early to make breakfast, only to find Sean Donovan already busy in the kitchen. She quickly walked over.
"Sean, you were so tired. Why didn’t you sleep in a little? I can handle breakfast!"
Sean Donovan smiled at her as he fried some fragrant toast.
"I’m used to waking up early. No matter how tired I am, I can’t sleep much. Go get ready, it’ll be done in a minute!"
Naomi Shaw just stood there, watching him gently go about his work. Then she thought of the domineering Julian Donovan, and of Lara Nash’s words about giving Julian a chance. Her thoughts were in such a state of utter confusion that she had no choice but to turn and walk away.
After breakfast, Sean Donovan left the house with her. A driver was waiting outside. The two of them first dropped Joy off at kindergarten, then went to the hospital for work together.
As soon as she started her shift, Naomi Shaw threw herself into her intense and busy work. Around noon, she went to a general ward to check on a patient who had been transferred from the ICU. The patient was browsing the internet on their phone and quickly waved her over when she entered.
"Nurse Quinn, isn’t that you in this photo? So you’re dating your hospital’s director? Wow, and you even have a child together!"
At the patient’s outburst, the other patients in the room immediately asked to see the phone. Because of her kind nature, Naomi was well-liked by the patients, so they were all eager to see the news about her love life. Naomi Shaw listened to their discussion in a complete daze.
