CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 109 - 107: Do You Really Not Have Me in Your Heart Anymore? (3)
After a long moment, her emotions calmed. Without looking back, she opened the restaurant door and walked out.
Naomi Shaw stumbled into the living room, her steps unsteady. She forced her expression to look natural. The two children were playing, and she went over to hug Dylan.
"Mommy and Joy have to go now. Dylan, you be a good boy, okay?"
"Okay, bye, Mommy!"
Dylan leaned in and kissed her cheek, then furrowed his cute little brow.
Naomi Shaw picked up Joy.
"Joy, let’s go home with Mommy."
As she turned, Julian Donovan looked at her.
"The driver’s waiting downstairs. Let him give you a ride."
’He wanted to drive them himself, but he knew she would refuse.’
"Thank you."
She said her thanks and walked out with Joy in her arms, never looking at him.
The moment Naomi Shaw’s figure vanished through the door, Dylan marched over to confront him. "Julian Donovan, did you kiss Mommy?"
’Just now, when I kissed her goodbye, I smelled smoke on Mommy’s face, and she looked really upset. Hmph, he must have forced her to kiss him!’
Julian Donovan glared in annoyance at the perceptive little boy. Dylan shouted at him, "I hate you!"
Then he stormed into his room in a huff. ’He bullied Mommy again.’
Julian Donovan’s driver was waiting downstairs and took Naomi Shaw and Joy home. After they arrived safely and the driver pulled away, another car departed in a different direction.
After getting home and putting Joy to sleep, Naomi Shaw lay in bed, tossing and turning. ’Julian Donovan, you asked if you’re really not in my heart anymore?’
’The truth is, you’re still in my heart. I’ve just lost the desperate need to be with you.’
Sean Donovan’s call came the next morning, just as she’d gotten ready to take Joy out. Ever since he went abroad, Sean had been completely incommunicado. His phone was always off, and she had no way of reaching him unless he called her first. She didn’t know what he was doing that required such secrecy, but she had never asked.
Sean’s voice sounded a little tired.
"Getting ready for work?"
"Mmm..."
She knelt in the entryway, straightening Joy’s coat as she replied. Sean’s voice suddenly softened. "Have you missed me?"
Her hand paused on Joy’s button. ’Sean had never been so forward before.’ In the end, she just gave a soft, "Mmm..."
Sean laughed, a hint of resignation in his tone. "Anna, can’t you just say you miss me?"
She pursed her lips in silence for a moment, then said, "You miss me..."
"Anna, you’re adorable!"
Sean’s low laugh broke the tension, and she laughed along with him. ’Only a bit of humor like this could defuse such an awkward moment.’
’Words like "I miss you" and "I love you"... she just couldn’t say them. She had probably only ever spoken such intimate words to one person: Julian Donovan. She’d even said more daring things, like that she wanted to be his woman. She had no idea where she’d found the courage back then.’
’When you’re young, you think love is simple. You say the words easily, give your heart away easily, and break up just as easily.’
’But in the end, you find that even the most profound love, the most unforgettable person, will slowly fade with time. Just like her feelings for Julian Donovan now.’
"Is it humid over there? How’s your foot?"
She was concerned about Sean’s foot. She had seen him in excruciating pain when it flared up, so this was always her biggest worry whenever he traveled.
Sean’s reply was cheerful.
"It’s doing fine. Anyway, I won’t keep you from work. I have to get going too."
"You take care of yourself."
She said, about to hang up, but Sean’s low voice came through again. "Anna, I miss you."
She sighed to herself and, pretending not to have heard him, hung up the phone.
’Before Julian Donovan showed up, her heart had been at peace. Her life with Sean was calm, and she’d thought that tranquility was what she wanted. But the moment Julian reappeared, her life was thrown into disarray, especially with him saying he wanted her back.’
The new day was just as hectic. During her lunch break, she had just finished eating when a colleague came in to say someone was looking for her. Puzzled, she went outside to find Juliet Jennings standing on the walkway. Dressed in a fashionable outfit, her presence was unmistakable. Naomi’s first instinct was to turn and walk away. ’I can’t help it. Ever since I saw her with that other man at the hotel, I just can’t stand her.’
Juliet Jennings took off her sunglasses and said nonchalantly,
"Naomi Shaw, we need to talk."
Naomi Shaw stood with her hands in the pockets of her uniform, her reply indifferent.
"I don’t think we have anything to talk about."
’Even if Juliet Jennings weren’t Julian Donovan’s first love, I’d still have nothing to say to a woman like her.’
Juliet Jennings shrugged.
"Okay, I just want to say that Julian and I have been together since college. We’ve been through so much over the years. If you hadn’t disappeared in that shipwreck, leaving your son behind and making Julian feel so guilty, we would have been married long ago!"
Last night, she had received an anonymous text. It said that if she could ruin things between Julian Donovan and Naomi Shaw, a brilliant future awaited her. Lead roles, Best Actress awards, and countless other honors would be hers for the taking. Three years ago, after Julian had spoken harshly to her, her career had plummeted. Without his backing, she could still find work, but she was no longer a leading lady—just another supporting actress.
How could someone so proud and arrogant accept such a fate? This text message was a lifeline. She didn’t know who sent it, only that right after she’d agreed to their terms last night, she was immediately offered a leading role in a new film.
Juliet Jennings’s words tore open the three-year-old scar on Naomi’s heart, a faint ache spreading through her. But the pain only strengthened her resolve. She curled her lips into a cold smile.
"The idea that he only feels guilty about me and my son? I already heard that three years ago. I’m well aware of that fact, so thank you for the reminder."
As she spoke, she flashed the huge, dazzling diamond ring on her hand at Juliet Jennings.
"Besides, I’m getting married myself. I couldn’t care less about his love, so please, stay out of my sight from now on. You two can be as inseparable as you want!"
With a final, cold glance at the stunned Juliet Jennings, she turned and walked away.
’Juliet Jennings was completely blindsided. ’She’s getting married?’ Looking at that ring, she could tell Naomi’s supposed fiancé wasn’t from some ordinary family. Who else could afford a rock that big? ’How is she always so lucky? Always managing to marry some perfect, wealthy man from a prominent family. And why do I, Juliet Jennings, have to rely on men to get ahead, yet not a single one is willing to marry me?’’
’Juliet Jennings’s visit had completely ruined Naomi’s mood. Her words made her stomach churn with anger. The feeling only intensified when she remembered Julian Donovan saying he wanted her back. ’His so-called love... could it really just be guilt?’’
When her shift finally ended, she walked out of the hospital to see Julian Donovan waiting for her, leaning against his car and smoking. The impressive luxury car, the man’s handsome yet weathered features, and his composed aura drew frequent glances from young nurses and passersby. She ignored him completely and strode past.
Seeing her, he quickly stubbed out his cigarette and stepped forward to take her arm.
"Naomi, let’s have dinner together tonight?"
"Where’s Dylan?"
She glanced at his car, ignoring his question. He lowered his gaze to her and smiled.
"My friend picked him up. Tonight, it’s just the two of us."
’He had deliberately asked Caleb Rhodes to take Dylan to his place today. His plan was to send Joy there too after Naomi picked her up, all to create an opportunity for them to be alone. He’d even booked a table at Wincastle’s most famous couples’ restaurant. All he had to do was wait for her to finish work.’
She gave him a faint smile in return.
"This ’just the two of us’... shouldn’t that be for you and Miss Jennings?"
His expression darkened.
"What do you mean?"
"Don’t you know what I mean? You came to Wincastle, and so did Juliet Jennings. Shouldn’t you be spending tonight with your first love?"
She looked him straight in the eye. He finally understood what she was getting at and began to explain, annoyed,
