Celestial Human Diagram-Chapter 72 - 62: The Same Rain
After entering the building, Chen Chuan thought for a moment, then went to the public telephone and called Cheng Zitong. "Teacher, I’m back," he said.
Cheng Zitong’s voice came from the receiver. "How did it go? Did it go smoothly?"
Chen Chuan said, "It went very smoothly. Senior Brother Ren taught me quite a lot."
"Xiaotian is very experienced. Don’t be fooled by his wild-sounding name; he’s very meticulous in his work. You won’t be at a disadvantage following him. Oh, and since you’re back safely, you can collect your pay. I’ll talk to Xiaotian about it later."
Chen Chuan said, "Teacher, I didn’t really do much this time."
"Don’t say that, and don’t feel like you don’t deserve it," Cheng Zitong said. "On an assigned mission like Xiaotian’s, having someone to back you up is completely different from not having anyone. Even if you just sat there the whole time, you still served a purpose. The key is trust, you know?
"When you have someone you can trust with your back at a critical moment, you can act with much more confidence. No matter how extraordinary your martial skills are, if people see you’re alone, they might get ideas they otherwise wouldn’t—especially the fools who love to pull that kind of stunt."
Chen Chuan readily agreed. "I’ll follow your arrangements, Teacher."
"That’s the spirit. I’ll arrange an assigned mission for you on every rest day this month. Try your best to complete them. You won’t necessarily be going with Xiaotian; you might have to carry some out on your own. The main goal is to help you build up some experience, and you’ll earn some money on the side.
"With your physical foundation, you’ll definitely need more medicinal supplements than others, so you should save up more money."
Chen Chuan couldn’t agree more. Even if Cheng Zitong could get him the base price, the cost would be substantial once the quantity of supplements increased. He really should save up a bit more for a rainy day.
After the call, he took the elevator upstairs to Area One. He saw that the door to Dormitory Two across the hall was open, and the living room was filled with things that looked like they had just been moved in. He had seen these items before and couldn’t help but smile slightly. He raised his hand and knocked on the door.
WHOOSH! A figure darted out from an inner room. Upon seeing him, the person cried out in pleasant surprise, "Brother Chen!"
Chen Chuan smiled and greeted him, "Brother Wei, long time no see."
"Has it been that long?" Weidong looked a little puzzled and scratched his head. "I guess it has been a while."
Chen Chuan chuckled. "Not that long, only about a month. What, did you move all your old-fashioned stuff over?"
Weidong said, "I’m not used to the stuff at school; my things from home are more comfortable. I’ve moved all the big items over already. There are just a few small things left, which I’ll finish moving in a few more days.
"Oh, right, Brother Chen, how did you find me? I haven’t been able to find you at all."
Chen Chuan took a step to the side, pointed to Dormitory Four across the hall, and said, "There. I live right there."
Weidong poked his head out to look, then had a moment of realization. "Oh, so you live diagonally across from me! No wonder I haven’t seen you."
’Brother Wei,’ Chen Chuan thought to himself, ’when you walk, you should look to the sides, not just straight ahead.’
Weidong ducked back inside. "Don’t just stand in the doorway. Come on in."
As Chen Chuan entered, he saw a crate of soda in the corner. This Shazhen Soda seemed to be a favorite among people their age.
He glanced around and said, "Moving all this stuff... you didn’t ask any of your dorm neighbors for a hand?"
Weidong shook his head. "I don’t like them."
Chen Chuan understood. Although he had been training constantly for the past two months, he’d learned from meals with Feng Xiaochi and Luo Kaiyuan that the guys in the opposite dorm often hung out with senior students from the Mutual Aid Association. They had likely already joined it.
Joining didn’t necessarily make them enemies, but the Mutual Aid Association wasn’t a charity. If you enjoyed its benefits, you were naturally expected to give something back in return. Some things could become out of your control. Therefore, it was a valid choice to keep your distance if you could.
After quickly putting his things away one by one, Weidong ran back excitedly. "Brother Chen, how about another match?"
He raised a fist and said, "I’ve been training hard lately. I should be able to catch up to you."
Chen Chuan smiled. "Sure."
Weidong waved his hand excitedly. "This way!" With that, he dashed out.
Chen Chuan followed him out.
「Two minutes later.」
Weidong lay sprawled on the floor, bruised and battered, staring up at the ceiling.
Chen Chuan flexed his wrists and said with a smile, "Brother Wei, you’ve improved."
Weidong did a kip-up, landing in a squat, and asked joyfully, "Have I really improved?"
Chen Chuan said with certainty, "You have."
It was true, Weidong’s techniques had improved significantly. He had probably been training on his own before, but now that he was sparring with others, his progress was rapid.
Furthermore, his ability to take a hit had also increased remarkably. At first, Chen Chuan had planned to hold back, but Weidong was able to withstand it. It was only after Chen Chuan stopped holding back that he managed to knock him down.
He asked curiously, "Brother Wei, who’s your instructor?"
Weidong said, "Teacher Guan from the Freestyle Martial Arts Department."
Chen Chuan thought for a moment and immediately recalled him. He was an instructor who was extremely skilled in the Horizontal Training Method. However, in this day and age, no matter how well you trained in Horizontal Training, it was useless against a gun if you didn’t have any protective gear. That was why very few people chose this path.
That was the case under normal circumstances, but with the existence of Mutated Organizations, it was a different story.
Weidong bumped his fists together. "My teacher said I can begin my formal training in two days. I’ll challenge you again then!"
Chen Chuan readily agreed, "Deal!"
After chatting for a while, he told Weidong to find him if he ever needed help, then turned and went back to his own dorm.
He had just stepped through the door when he realized that, at some point, it had started to rain.
He walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, listening to the sound of raindrops pattering against the glass. He looked down at Spring and Autumn Lake below, where the falling rain was creating countless ripples on its surface.
At that very moment, behind the administrative building across the way, in the academic area for Class B students, a group of students was still training in the rain on a vast cinder field, despite the downpour.
An instructor stood in the rain as well, shouting at the students, "You’ve been enrolled for over a month! You need to prepare to begin your formal training as soon as possible! The school has already prepared the medicine, so don’t be afraid of catching a cold, and don’t be afraid of getting injured! As long as it doesn’t kill you, you train until you drop!"
A student suddenly raised his hand and shouted, "Sir, I already began my Breathing Technique last month! Does that mean I don’t have to do this anymore?"
The instructor walked over, looked him up and down, and then kicked him onto the cinder-covered ground, roaring, "Did I give you permission to speak? It’s up to me to decide what you need! Get back to training! You don’t stop until I say so! Do you hear me?!"
The student scrambled back to his feet and shouted in unison with the others on the field, "Yes, sir!!"
The wind and rain gradually swept eastward, past the administrative building, and the trees on North Peak swayed along with them.
In a garden villa on the mountainside, the Recommended Student, Xiaoran, was training in the indoor Training Ground. A sturdy-looking youth was acting as his sparring partner, while two hired instructors stood by, ready to correct his movements at any moment.
Just then, a young female attendant entered with a middle-aged man in training clothes. She said to Xiaoran, "Young Master Qiu, Teacher Li has arrived."
Xiaoran took the initiative to walk over and shake the teacher’s hand. He asked eagerly, "Teacher Li, can I begin my formal training now?"
Teacher Li had him perform a few movements, then pressed a few spots on his body. He nodded and said, "Young Master Qiu, your body is in excellent condition. You’ve trained for a long time and have hardly taken any drugs that could harm your body. You are ready. You can begin your formal training."
Xiaoran was very polite to this teacher. "Then I’ll be in your hands, Teacher Li."
One normally had to develop the Breathing Technique on their own. But where there was demand, there was a service to meet it. Powerful families would specially cultivate a type of talent for the sole purpose of helping their scions begin their training.
However, these individuals themselves required a special talent and were incredibly difficult to cultivate. Moreover, the slightest mistake could cripple the person they were helping. As a result, Teacher Li was currently the only person in all of Yangzhi City skilled in this technique, and he needed a long period of rest after helping someone begin their training.
Xiaoran’s family had to call in quite a few favors to get him to come.
Teacher Li said, "Young Master Qiu, please lie down."
Xiaoran did as he was told and lay down on a reclining chair, asking curiously, "Do I need to apply any medicine?"
Teacher Li smiled. "No need. Young Master Qiu’s body is precious. I will first apply the medicine to my own hands and use massage techniques to allow its potency to seep in. Then I will guide your breathing. If you get bored, Young Master Qiu, feel free to take a short nap. It will be over very quickly..."
The heavy rain outside continued to fall without end.
After watching from the window for a while, Chen Chuan slowly pulled his gaze back from the curtain of rain.
He walked into his training room and resumed his practice of the Orthodox Scattering Hand and the Circulation Strength Posture.
Of the scheduled three months, more than one had already passed. He had to intensify his practice and master the Circulation Technique as soon as possible. Only then would it be possible to suppress the Mutated Organization within the time limit.
