Cave Refuge-Chapter 850 - 546 Thermobaric Bomb
Zachary had consistently believed that he could end the battle before the enemy opened the connecting passage, that is, he could clear all the enemies inside the Mysterious Ship within five minutes, and he did just that.
Therefore, Zachary gradually forgot about this rule. Initially, when Zachary altered the appearance of the White Bone Puppets, it was actually to have them stationed at the entrance of the passage for defense. However, as the quality of the Bloodthirsty Banner and the Hundred Ghosts Banner continued to improve, the White Bone Banner, aside from clearing the battlefield of remaining white bones, lost any other purpose.
If it weren’t for Zachary’s habit of summoning the Three Flags every time he entered the Mysterious Ship, he might have even forgotten about this matter.
Fortunately, it was Zachary’s subconscious behavior that used the White Bone Banner to summon the White Bone Puppets, and White Bone Puppets are not living creatures, they would not slack in their duty to guard the passage due to past safety.
Looking at the White Bone Puppet firmly guarding the entrance of the passage, facing the Fishmen wielding daggers, as long as the enemy fled beyond his attack range, the White Bone Puppet would not continue to chase and instead stood steadfastly at the connecting passage’s entrance without moving an inch.
It was for this reason that the White Bone Puppet did not simply and swiftly deal with those little Fishmen with weak combat abilities.
Seeing this situation, there was no need for Zachary to say anything; the Flying Swords behind him, like candied haw on a stick, successively impaled several Fishmen.
Not only that, but Zachary also urged the Blood Sea, using Tainted Blood to cover the area of the connecting passage.
Since Zachary had come from the other side of the passage, when he first released the Blood Sea, he overlooked the area beneath his feet and near the entrance of the rear hole. At first, he did not anticipate that anyone could reach this spot without detection.
With the addition of the Flying Swords, the combat ability of those Fishmen could only be described as negligible.
As the Tainted Blood of the Blood Sea completely covered the area around the passage, Zachary immediately sensed several different footsteps quietly moving towards the hole. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
After scanning the area, without a doubt, he could not see those Fishmen. Using Divine Sense to observe, unless he paid special attention to that area, he could not only fail to spot the enemy’s figure but also find it difficult to notice their movements.
Zachary had not anticipated that the Fishmen’s stealthy approach was not the traditional optical invisibility but rather a form of neglect that was slightly related to causality.
Though it could be said to be slightly related to causality, it truly was just slight; after all, as long as one was attentive, it was still possible to spot those Fishmen.
Nevertheless, even so, Zachary still let the Blood Sea cover all the land at the passage’s exit—this could be considered a double safeguard.
However, even with such an arrangement, he could only prevent stealth attacks from the ground side. Although he had never encountered airborne units from start to finish, taking into account that this time they were dealing with a Giant Ghost Ship, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, hence he continued to arrange for the White Bone Puppet to be stationed here.
Although Zachary had just shifted his attention to the White Bone Puppet at the entrance to the passage, there were still many blind Fishmen constantly attacking from all around. Yet, under the dual assault of the Blood Sea and Fierce Ghosts, even though Zachary’s attention was not on them, not a single blind Fishman could come close to him.
As the number of blind Fishmen deaths rose steeply, the color on the Fierce Ghosts’ bodies fluctuated between darker and lighter shades, and the Tainted Blood from the Blood Sea on the ground occasionally reacted with the floating eerie green mist in the air.
As time passed, even with more Eerie Fog coming from afar, the density of the fog around them nonetheless decreased significantly.
As the blind Fishmen, like moths to a flame, kept entering the range covered by the Blood Sea, Zachary felt like he was playing an endless mode in a tower defense game.
However, because of the eerie green mist in the air, whether it be the souls absorbed by the Hundred Ghosts Banner, the flesh absorbed by the Bloodthirsty Banner, or the White Bone Essence absorbed by the White Bone Banner, there was a constant need to replenish the consumption caused by the fog.
So even though the Three Flags absorbed their share of nourishment during this time, their consumption was not low. While certainly more than breaking even, the actual gains, all things considered, were still less than what Zachary typically obtained from targeting smaller Mysterious Ships.
Although the gains were only slightly greater than the expenditure, it laid a solid foundation for continuous and sustained consumption in battle, even though using the Three Flags still required Zachary to continuously exhaust his own Spirit Power.
But as Demon Path Magical Weapons, the consumption could be offset by the consumable materials within the Three Flags, so even with prolonged use, the pressure on Zachary wasn’t too great.
Still, it’s not ideal to continue consuming like this indefinitely, especially since this is the interior of a Giant Ghost Ship; if this were to drag on for too long, one could never know what kind of unexpected events might arise.
Therefore, Zachary did not stay put and watch the battle as he had initially, but instead took control of the Flying Swords to join the fray. With the addition of the Flying Swords, the already one-sided battle saw the Fishmen dying even more rapidly.
After the Flying Swords joined the battle, both the Blood Sea and the Fierce Ghosts saw a significant reduction in consumption over the same period of time.
Yet, as time went on, Zachary also noticed some issues. The eerie green mist affected not only the Three Flags but also the Flying Swords. However, when Zachary commanded the Flying Swords, his Spirit Power had already completely enveloped the swords’ bodies, which was why the Flying Swords were not affected by the mist.
