Cave Refuge-Chapter 843 - 542 Battleship~Battleship_2
Through careful observation with his Divine Sense, Zachary noticed that the hull materials of the warships engaged in the exchange of fire, which belonged to someone’s Companion Spiritual Treasure on each side, had changed to metallic materials. Although it was unclear whether they had undergone further evolution, the hulls had indeed been transformed from wood to non-wood materials.
However, via his Divine Sense, the cannons on the decks of both sides seemed not to be the long-range weapons obtained by devouring the green Mysterious Core, but independent weapons that had been mounted on the ships.
Looking at the mountains of cannonballs piled next to the cannons, Zachary estimated that these cannonballs were probably not very valuable.
The two ships had been exchanging fire for a long time. It wasn’t that no Ammunition struck the targets, but whenever a cannonball seemed about to hit the ship, the Energy Refining Realm Martial Artists aboard would take action and directly knock the cannonball away.
Seeing this, Zachary was quite puzzled. After all, given the situation, both sides should have realized that merely exchanging cannon fire would definitely not sink the opponent’s ship. Yet, why didn’t they approach each other for a boarding battle?
Could it be that they intended to rely on the cannons to deplete the energy of the Energy Refining Realm Martial Artists on the opposing side, waiting until their energy was exhausted before deciding whether or not to board for combat?
Zachary didn’t understand the commanders’ thoughts on both sides; however, at that moment, he did not wish to get involved in the battle, so he controlled his Companion Spiritual Treasure to continue diving, seeking to leave directly underwater.
Just as Zachary was controlling the Companion Spiritual Treasure to dive deeper, suddenly another warship came within the range of his Divine Sense.
Feeling this formidable newcomer, Zachary immediately stopped his departure to see what would happen next.
Indeed, compared to the two ships engaged in combat on the surface, the weapon equipment on this new warship was much stronger just from its external appearance.
Just as Zachary had guessed, the new warship didn’t approach the two battling ships but launched several Missiles straight from the missile wells on the deck.
While Zachary was wondering which ship’s ally this warship might be, the missiles that soared into the sky suddenly split in mid-air. The two warships nearby turned out to be their targets.
Just when Zachary was confused, unexpectedly, the two ships that had been fiercely exchanging fire suddenly and tacitly ceased their cannon fire.
Suddenly, several Energy Refining Realm Martial Artists appeared on the decks of the two warships, directly grabbing the stacked cannonballs and hurling them toward the missiles flying towards them in the sky.
Having reached the Energy Refining Realm, these Martial Artists were already in a superhuman state, and in just under a minute, every one of the Energy Refining Realm fighters had thrown at least ten cannonballs into the air.
Despite the individual cannonballs having maybe a poor hit rate, this type of saturating attack was very successful at intercepting the straightforwardly flying missiles in the air.
Just as Zachary had guessed, the missiles heading towards them in the air were indeed successfully intercepted by the giant ’Hidden Weapons’ thrown by the Martial Artists.
While Zachary was still unclear about the relationship between the three ships on the water, he saw the two previously battling warships suddenly charge in concord toward the new warship.
Seeing this development, Zachary also used his Divine Sense to observe the newly arrived warship more carefully.
Unknown until seen, when Zachary focused his entire attention on that warship, he was surprised to discover that there was no one on the deck. Not only was the deck unoccupied, but even in the cockpit, let alone people, even the humanoid mechanical creatures often seen in Mysterious Ships were absent.
Just as Zachary was somewhat stunned, the distance between the two warships that had been exchanging fire and this new warship had become very close.
At that moment, the Martial Artists standing on the decks of those two warships didn’t wait for the ships to approach and stabilize; they leaped directly, jumping onto the ship that had just launched the missile.
It was then that Zachary realized that the initial exchange of fire between the two warships might have been intended as bait to lure in the warship that appeared later.
Watching the two ships that had been fiercely exchanging fire just moments ago, they now cooperatively controlled the newly joined warship from the left and the right, and the less powerful Martial Artists from both ships swarmed onto the deck of that warship.
The Martial Artists who had just jumped onto the opposing deck were now brandishing their weapons, fending off the attacks of the Mechanical Creatures that emerged from the ship’s cabin.
Contrary to expectations, there wasn’t an overwhelming barrage of fire; the Mechanical Creatures that emerged didn’t all resemble human forms, but were instead a bizarre array of various appearances.
The Martial Artists in the Energy Cultivation Realm, seeing their companions board the deck, stepped aside to allow some smaller Mechanical Creatures through, helping to alleviate some of their combat pressure.
For those beast-like Mechanical Creatures, it was quite simple for the Martial Artists to deal with them. It wasn’t clear if it was a design issue, but those Mechanical Creatures’ combat capabilities weren’t very strong.
However, since their bodies were made of a special alloy, their defensive power was exceptionally strong, but their combat skills were indeed quite lacking.
As the smaller Mechanical Creatures were admitted onto the deck by the Martial Artists in the Energy Cultivation Realm, they only needed to face those physically massive or humanoid Mechanical Creatures armed with long rifles and cannons.
Honestly, although the remaining Mechanical Creatures were massive, their combat skills were still terribly poor, so they were quite easy to deal with.
The slightly more complicated cases were those humanoid Mechanical Creatures armed with firearms. Although they had hardly any combat experience since their creation, they had an Intelligent Learning System.
Thus, even though their initial accuracy was poor, as time passed, the accuracy of their long-range weapons gradually improved.
The Martial Artists in the Energy Cultivation Realm, as if they had long known the traits of these humanoid Mechanical Creatures, would eliminate them on sight as soon as they appeared.
Facing the brutal dismantling by the Martial Artists, numerous Mechanical Creatures continuously emerged from the ship’s cabin.
Zachary, looking at the fragments of Mechanical Creatures scattered all around, suddenly understood how the material for manufacturing Ammunition was obtained in large quantities.
No wonder they had chosen the type of cannons currently on their ship as their long-range weapons. After all, melting the metal debris on the ground provided them with the raw materials needed for making Ammunition.
While it was also possible to use these metals to manufacture Missiles, it necessitated sorting the shattered metals according to their material properties, then undergoing complex processes to remove impurities to finally obtain the raw materials needed for Missiles.
This process was not rare before the cataclysm; energy recycling companies were essentially engaged in such activities, having a complete system of breakdown and recycling.
But at this time, without the necessary equipment or specialized personnel, melting the metal debris on the ground into cannon shells that didn’t require high standards wasn’t exactly unexpected.
When no new Mechanical Creatures came out from the ship’s cabin, the warship’s deck was already covered with the fragments of Mechanical Creature corpses.
The ordinary Martial Artists immediately began clearing the battlefield, while the Martial Artists in the Energy Cultivation Realm entered the ship’s cabin together.
