CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 257: Cat Patron
"Using a Rank-2 spell may be too rough on your body. I suggest you only use the Rank-1 spell only," The black cat meowed.
"Aw! I really wanted to try Nether Beam." Selina seemed a little disappointed hearing that.
"You know what. Let’s try the Rank-1 spell first, if you’re able to withstand it. I might let you try Nether Beam." The black cat stroked its whiskers.
"Yay! Which spell should I try first?" Selina raised her hands in joy.
The group were standing around in the training room in the Underpark beneath Aeliz City. The training room was the second largest structure in the Underpark with a wide and even platform in the middle.
Crow crossed his hands and sat on a rock, watching Selina practice with Mater.
Evelynn had also come. It was the first time she was here. She and Sparrow were talking together. They seemed to really get along with each other.
"You know how to play instruments?" Evelynn said.
"I know how to play the lute! Master granted me that skill. I don’t know about other instruments though." Sparrow summoned his lute and played a few tunes for Evelynn to hear.
"You have very flexible fingers. This is what we call talent in the music industry." Evelynn’s eyes lit up when she saw the fluent way Sparrow played the lute. She knew talent when she saw them. "But the lute is a very traditional instrument. I don’t think I can sing modern songs with a lute though. I don’t know any song that plays with a lute also."
The black cat’s right ear perked over as he heard that.
"Wait me a minute." Mater told Selina then floated over to Evelynn. "I have a song. From a friend of mine. It can be played with a lute."
"Do you remember its lyrics and tones, Master?" Evelynn smiled excitedly.
"I remember it by heart. That damn guy never stopped singing it. It is called ’The Long Road’."
The black cat wasted a few minutes teaching the song to Evelynn. She was a gifted singer and learned the song immediately, despite the fact that Mater’s voice was horrible.
Crow’s face twitched after hearing Mater recited the lyrics. Cat’s groan was always horrible. Maybe that was why his Master was so bad at singing. His body trembled to hold in the laughter.
Mater’s eyes glanced over to the Abomination. The shadow man turned his face away immediately to avoid exposing himself.
"I got it myself." Evelynn said.
"Alright then. Have fun you two." Mater always floated and returned to Selina. Evelynn continued to guide Sparrow on how to play the song.
"Let’s try Elemental Shield first. It’s a defensive spell. You lack this aspect the most so it may save you in a pinch." The black cat meowed.
"Elemental Shield? Is that the floating dirt shield you always use?" Selina said.
"Yup. But not just dirt. It can use Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. Each had a specific element power that may be great with certain attacks but completely useless with the rest.
There was an underground river floating throughout the Underpark. The black cat flicked its finger to draw a strip of water from the river up.
The water formed a transparent blue shield in front of Mater and Selina.
"Like this thing. The water shield. It is very good against fire, and certain combustion attacks."
Mater raised his paw up and called upon a ring of hellfire. The water shield flipped itself over and took in the fire from the ground.
"This is Hellfire. A type of fire originated from the Infernal Hell. It can burn literally anything. Even your soul. Earth Shield, Air Shield, and Fire Shield would be completely useless against it. But Water Shield stand a chance."
The fire reached up and evaporated the water shield. The shield was only able to hold on for around ten seconds before disappearing away.
Elemental Shield was only a Rank-1 Spell. But it used Mater’s Rank-2 Chaos, which was denser and more powerful.
"I am strong. That’s why the shield was able to withstand for ten seconds. If it was a Rank-1 Warlock using this spell, the shield would barely survive three seconds.
For normal fire, it should have no problem defending for at least a minute or two. If it’s a destructive explosion, it can also buy you some time to get out of there."
Selina nodded repeatedly while watching Mater show off his spells. Usually the black cat didn’t say much about his power. The goth girl didn’t ask either as she respected his secrets.
"Now I will channel my Chaos through you and you should be able to use Elemental Shield."
"You wouldn’t do something weird again, right?" Selina pouted her lips.
"I don’t know... You tell me." The black cat raised an eyebrow in an extremely sarcastic fashion.
Selina’s expression darkened, "You can sleep with Erin tonight!"
"Alright!" Mater chuckled, "I was just kidding! You won’t feel anything. Try it out. I will establish the connection between you and the Dark Grimoire."
The Brand on Selina’s body lit up. It hid on a very secretive location on her body. The goth girl felt the warm Chaos coming from the Brand and flooding inside her body. The primal chaotic power.
It was very different from the Chaos produced by the NES. This thing... Mater’s thing was much more physical and unhinged.
Mater’s Chaos climbed to Selina’s Psycho Force and established the link. Suddenly, Selina found herself in a dark red space.
Around her were eighteen floating paintings. Each painting represented a spell from Mater. Thirteen Rank-1 spells. And five Rank-2 spells.
Three of the Rank-1 paintings were black and had no spells in them. These were once slots used for Chaos Eyes, Nether Beam, and Force Dome but they had been moved to Rank-2. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
The Rank-2 spells shined brightly. Selina couldn’t even see them directly. The Rank-1 spells had a sinister aura to them but she could still look at them directly.
She quickly recognized the shield painting.
"This must be the Elemental Shield..."
Inside this imagined red space, Selina reached her hand toward that painting. At the same time, her Chaos joined together with Mater’s Chaos and connected to the Dark Grimoire. She had successfully borrowed Mater’s power.
The black cat couldn’t help but share a grin.
’Warlock is a thief, a snatcher, a robber of power. I take power from other beings, other dimensions, and other faiths. I would never think that one day I would be giving it away.’ Mater stroked his whiskers in a deep thought, ’Doesn’t that make me some kind of patron for Selina?’
