CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 166: Offers
John took a deep breath and forced out a broken smile. He waved his finger toward Selina and chuckled.
"Very good joke. Very good."
The man seemed like he could explode at any moment. Selina wasn’t even fazed. She looked over to Detective Flintstone.
"My work here is done. I will take my leave now."
Chase opened his mouth but before he could say anything. John had already squeezed in between of them.
"Now. Now. No need to be in a hurry. I am here to recruit you. Whoever you are." John said. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"You better back off, Psychic." The black jaguar growled deeply.
John looked down at Mater and smiled, "Cute kitty. You know it is illegal to keep a wild animal like this without a permit."
Selina raised her hand. The purple Nether Sword appeared and she slammed it on the ground. The stone pavement cracked into countless crevices.
"My patience is thin. Get out of my face." Selina said calmly. Her tone didn’t even shift. But everyone could feel the pure threat coming from her.
John kept his broken mechanical grin.
"That’s not good behavior. That’s not good. You should be more polite to a Silver Rank like. I am Titan of the Atlas Seven."
"That Atlas Seven?"
"Isn’t that a Silver Organization?"
"He’s the leader?"
The Psychics began to talk amongst themselves. Their gossip fueled John’s vanity even more.
Then they heard the noise of sharp heels clicking on the floor. Everyone turned over to see a tall beautiful woman in a tight black dress walking inside. Beside her were two men in black suits.
"You’re still as obnoxious as always, John." Francesca said.
John stared at her. People could almost feel the dense killing intention he’s giving off.
"Hellstorm... Long time no see." John said.
"Please don’t call me by that ridiculous name. My name is Francesca Sakurama." The woman said.
She turned over to Selina. Her lips curved up instantly.
"Oh? You’re able to block my telepathy. Impressive! You must be the new Psychic that entered the Bronze Rankings right? I have a feeling it was you when I heard the Commander mention a Bronze Rank asked to take care of this bounty." Francesca said.
The Psychics began gossiping again.
Selina rotated her neck. Then she looked at the two of them.
"State your business then go. I don’t have time for you."
"Spicy, huh? Goes well with that panther of yours. I am Francesca of the Obscure Association. We are a group of independent Bounty Hunters. Join us and you shall receive many benefits."
"I am Titan of the Atlas Seven. We’re the biggest Silver Organization out there. The number one. In power. In profit. And well, in everything.
I am very interested in you, young miss. And coincidentally, the Atlas Seven needs a new female member for representation reasons."
Francesca chuckled, "Fucking representation."
"Watch your mouth, you fat bitch!"
They conversed telepathically so no one else heard their conversation. But they could feel the tension in the air.
"Miss Isles! Don’t listen to them. They aren’t ’Independent’ Bounty Hunters!" Chase spoke up, "These are corporate Psychics. If you go with them, you will have to sign a contract. I suggest you hire yourself a lawyer and consider the offer carefully."
John and Francesca stared at Chase but they didn’t dare to do anything. As influential as they were, they couldn’t touch Chase. He was a representative of the government. The true top dog of this country.
"Tch. Government dogs..." Francesca mumbled just loud enough for anyone to hear.
"Poor bastard." John did the same.
Selina carefully observed the two of them.
"I am currently enrolled in the Institution. The new semester will begin soon. I have no intention of joining anyone at this time." She said plainly.
’The Institute? Shit! She might be brainwashed by those government dogs!’ Francesca thought to herself.
’I must have her to ensure the company’s profits!’ John thought to himself.
"I see. Well. It just so happens that learning in the Institute costs a lot of credits." Francesca’s soft voice echoed. "Even if you were recommended or you have a scholarship, it would be awfully expensive to buy the needed equipment. We can help you with that."
"The Atlas Seven is the richest Silver Hunter company. What she can give you, we can give you more. And not just that. Our Psychics are amongst the most famous celebrities in Aeliz. You want to be a model? We can help you.
You want to become an actor? No problem. You want to sing? You’re going to be the top no.1 song in no time.
Just think of everything you can get. You can literally be anything." John said.
Chase sighed, "What they said is true, Miss Isles. The corporation can provide you with a very good source of income. But I do believe you should stick with doing the bounties and gathering more experience.
This country needs more people like you. Not those vainglorious attention-starving idiots."
Selina turned to John and Francesca, "How much can you give me?"
"At least 20,000 credits." Francesca said.
John smirked, "50,000 to 100,000 credits are how much we invest in new talent."
"Rich bastard," Francesca glanced at John.
"That’s it?"
"What do you mean ’that’s it’? 50K is a lot of money." John said.
"50,000 a week?" Selina said.
"50,000 credits for your entire development." A vein bulged on John’s forehead. He really lost patience with this girl. He never had to say this much before.
"I got 50,000 credits for doing a few missions already. Your offers mean nothing to me. If you really want to entice me, maybe start the price at 1,000,000 credits?"
"A million? Girl, have you even seen 1,000,000 credits?" John said.
"My mother left me quite a lot of credits. 50,000 means nothing to me. And I can make that small amount in no time." Selina said.
"What the hell?!" Francesca blurted out. She could gather 1,000,000 credits if she wanted but it was still a big amount for her. Selina didn’t seem to care at all.
"And frankly. You are too weak."
Selina grabbed the Nether Sword and poured energy inside it. It lit up brightly like a neon light.
"I already have a better teacher."
Selina slashed the sword at the sky. A bright purple sword beam cut into the cloud above.
