CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 90: Come With Us
Princess Teimei entered Princess Cassandra’s room.
"Princess?" Princess Cassandra got up from the chair in a hurry. She had no idea why the Vivere Kingdom’s Princess was the one escorting her out of the palace.
Princess Teimei smiled as she looked around the room but soon her gaze was filled with disappointment.
[They really did not treat you like a Princess.]
[I always thought it was a rumor but it seems to be true.]
[No wonder, the Elvira Empire’s people cannot be trusted.]
Princess Teimei turned around as she blinked at Princess Cassandra. Cassandra who heard her thoughts did not say anything.
’I should only reply to the things said to me directly.’
’This was how I was before the Vivere Kingdom’s royalty came and I should remain the same.
Princess Teimei waited for Cassandra to say something but she soon realized that the fifth Princess was not interested in answering the unasked question.
[You are truly interesting Princess Cassandra.]
[Very interesting indeed.]
Princess Teimei took a step towards the fifth Princess before she sat on the chair. "Have the Princess made things clear with her lady in waiting?"
Cassandra nodded her head. "Yes, We can leave now."
Princess Teimei laughed. "We can but my brother will need some time to reach Bentham’s mansion. We can leave soon but why don’t we walk in the forest? The moon is shining peacefully and even the atmosphere is lovely."
Cassandra’s eyes narrowed but she got up from her seat before taking the black fur on her body. Seeing the fifth Princess obedient, Princess Teimei was happy. Her eyes were quite as if hiding many secrets.
Once they were in the forest Princess Teimei stood in front of Princess Cassandra as she stared at her eyes. "I think Princess Cassandra knows why we are here?"
Cassandra paused but she shook her head. After what had happened with her throughout the day, she had decided to think before she acted. Cassandra was more curious now and a little more courageous.
"I only know that you are here for the peace treaty," Cassandra said with a straight voice. Her eyes did not show any fear that would usually be there.
Was it because Cassandra knew that Duke Salvador is there protecting her or was it because she had experienced the power she never knew she had. Whatever the thing was Cassandra decided to be brave about the situation. After all, survival only comes to the brave.
"Peace Treaty." Princess Teimei giggled. "They are happy by winning a small portion of land."
Princess Teimei’s eyes were sharpened. "Anyway. That is not the only reason. My brother will tell you so himself but I want us to get along well too. We are here to help you, Princess Cassandra. Don’t shut us down so soon when you hear my brother."
Cassandra was confused. She did not know what was happening. Why would Princess Teimei say such words? And to help her? Can anyone really help her?
Although Cassandra did not understand the meaning behind Princess Teimei’s words she still nodded.
’I have to see what they want first.’
’My life is not quiet anymore.’
’The Vivere Kingdom will only bring disaster.’
Princess Teimei smiled as she extended her hand towards the Princess. "Hold only me. And don’t be afraid, we will reach the Bentham’s mansion within seconds."
Princess Cassandra was confused but she held onto Princess Teimei’s hand as all the surroundings darkened. It was as if she was transporting through space. And before Cassandra knew it she was standing in front of Prince Carl who had a glass of wine in his hand.
"Welcome, Princess." Prince Carl said in a happy tone.
—---------
Princess Cassandra was sitting in front of Prince Carl, Princess Teimei, and Lord Bentham.
Her eyes refused to focus. She did not know where to see anymore. The Vivere Kingdom’s people wanted to talk with her was something that Cassandra had made her heart understand but what was Lord Bentham doing there.
’It looks like they know each other.’
’Are they acquaintances?’
’But if that is the case then does Lord Bentham also know that I can read minds?’
Cassandra’s gaze fixed on Lord Bentham who just smiled at her without saying any other words. It was Prince Carl who understood the meaning behind the fifth Princess’s eyes.
"So should we start the meeting? I have many things lined up as well." Prince Carl looked around with a smile. "So the fifth Princess might be wondering why she is here?"
Princess Cassandra blinked her eyes a few times before she nodded her head.
"Well. Do you know that even though we live in a Kingdom beside you and have constant conflicts with this Empire we do not hate the citizens living here. Actually, we find them pitiful." Princess Carl looked at Achard Bentham as he continued. "And Achard also feels the same."
Cassandra’s eyes shifted towards Lord Bentham once again. But the man did not say anything but simply smiled.
"Princess." Princess Teimei said in a soft tone. "Lord Bentham will be coming with us to the Vivere Kingdom and we are hoping the Princess will also join him. It won’t be hard for you as for everyone here you are powerless with no hope and Lord Bentham is an adopted son who loved academics and had no interest in inheriting the Duke’s title."
Cassandra blinked but she nodded her head. "So Lord Bentham will shift to the Vivere Kingdom?"
"Yes, I am." Lord Bentham said in a soft tone as if making a child understand. "It doesn’t matter where I live. But as my fiance, you might also have to move."
Cassandra looked down as she smiled. "Did Lord Bentham always want to do so?"
Achard Bentham smiled but did not deny. "They have a lot of books there which I have not yet read. I think it is a good opportunity for me to learn more."
Cassandra nodded as she looked down. She fiddled with her hands as a smile formed on her face. ’It is an opportunity for Lord Bentham but what about me?’
’Do I really have to go?’
’This will affect me in a bad way.’
’The Vivere Kingdom’s royalty knows my secret and now I have to move to their Kingdom just because the man I am going to marry will move there.’
’Do I not have any right to complain?’
Cassandra looked down as she closed her eyes. "Can you give me some time to understand the situation and then decide? I am a little confused now."
Prince Carl did not reply but simply smiled. His eyes narrowed as he looked at his sister who understood her brother’s gaze.
"Is something disturbing the fifth Princess?" Princess Teimei asked in a soft tone. "You can tell that to me. After all, we are around the same age. I can understand you better."
Cassandra’s smile did not reach her eyes. She wanted to say a lot of things but yet she could not. Her hold on the black fur covering her tightened. The warmth that she felt was beyond anything that Cassandra had imagined.
Princess Cassandra looked at Lord Bentham. The person she thought was giving her warmth, the man she felt comfortable around was suddenly suffocating her.
’Was Lord Bentham acting in such a way because he knew my secret from the start?’
’Did he make me believe him and agree to be his fiance by showing the side that I might trust the most?’
’How pathetic.’
’I feel like crying.’
Princess Cassandra’s eyes were burning. Her hands formed a fist as she controlled the burning sensation. Princess Cassandra knew that this was not the right time for all this. All of them were staring at her.
’I feel helpless.’
’I have never felt this way, even when I was with Duke Salvador.’
Princess Cassandra took deep breaths as she controlled the burning sensation in her throat. "I will think about it," Cassandra said in a murmur. She feared that increasing her voice now might make her lose her self-control.
[Why do you have to think about it?] Prince Carl said.
[It is not a point of discussion. I called you here just because I do not want you to feel left out.]
[Princess Cassandra is testing my patience which I already lack.]
[I can guarantee that we will treat you better than they treated you.]
[You do not have to worry about your life there as no one will try killing you at every step.]
[No one will judge you and not look at you with a pitiful gaze.]
Princess Cassandra blinked as she looked at Prince Carl. The uncomfortable feeling that was surrounding her was getting stronger by the second. "I will still think about the offer."
"Very well then. If the fifth Princess had made up her mind there is no chance that our words would change it." Prince Carl said as he got up from the chair. "Teimei leaves the Princess safely at her palace and you too take some rest. I have a meeting to attend."
Princess Teimei nodded as she held Princess Cassandra’s hand. But as they transported Prince Carl’s words revoked around Cassandra’s mind.
[You should come with us, Princess. You will know more about your birth mother there.]
