Chapter 57: Hypnosis

Princess Cassandra was sitting in her room writing the contents of the diary,

The room was quiet as if no soul was present. Only the noise of the paper and pen could be heard. At times Cassandra turned the pages of the diary as she rubbed her eyes.

The night was deep as the moon shone in the sky. A small lamp was burning on the table where Cassandra sat.

"How should I write it?" Cassandra sighed. She had been writing it for the last few hours. Cassandra knew that the morning sun would rise soon in a few hours.

’I should complete it soon.’

’Duke Salvador needs it.’

’I have to help him.’

’The Duke had even sent the people here to protect me.’

Cassandra looked at her hands that were paining due to intense writing, but the wounds on them had been erased.

Cassandra sighed. "I wish I had the power to heal. At least, I would be able to push my pain back."

"Is it?" A low voice said as Cassandra’s heartbeat fastened.

Princess Cassandra’s breathing increased significantly. She swallowed as she closed her eyes. She wanted to turn around and see the person who was standing beside her but she was afraid too.

’Who is he?’

’Why didn’t I know?’

’Will I die?’

The laughter followed from behind Cassandra’s ears, making her heart stop. Her breathing increased significantly as Cassandra tried to calm her mind.

But soon Cassandra’s eyes opened. She felt that the voice was somewhat familiar. It was as if she had heard it somewhere recently.

"Are you afraid of me?" The voice sent, making Cassandra know who it was.

"Duke .." Cassandra looked down as her hand on the pen tightened.

"I thought the Princess forgot about me." Duke Salvador moved forward as he sat beside Princess Cassandra looking at her side face. "Who knew that the Princess is so dedicated towards her work, even sacrificing her night sleep."

Cassandra looked at the Duke who was sitting beside her. "If the Duke gives one some work then it must be done fast."

"That is true." Duke Salvador laughed. His eyes shine in the night like rubies.

Cassandra was mesmerized by it. The glow of the lit lamp enhanced Duke Salvador’s facial features. But the main focus was on his eyes. The shining glow that it gave as if death was calling in.

Cassandra wanted to touch his face. She wanted to know if it was as shiny as it looked.

"Why is Princess so focused on my face? Do you like it?" Duke Salvador said with a smirk.

"Are you really him?" Cassandra blurted out without thinking. Cassandra knew that she was thinking too deeply but she felt it that way. Cassandra had never seen Duke Salvador in such a playful way.

Aiden disregarded Cassandra’s question as he gazed at her. He could sense that she was looking into his eyes. "Do you like my eyes?"

In the quiet night, Duke Salvador’s voice worked like hypnosis on Cassandra. "Yes .."

Cassandra did not know why she was so comfortable with the Duke. Was it because she was sleepy or because she was hallucinating?

"They are unique .." Cassandra’s words came out in a whisper. Her eyes were about to close as she yawned like a cat.

"Is it? Many of my subordinates have red eyes. Maybe it is a fire mage specialty." Duke Salvador smiled as he looked at the Princess who was closing her eyes.

Aiden could see the way Cassandra was struggling to keep her eyes open. He knew that the next morning, Cassandra might not even remember anything at all but he still wanted to say it.

"Princess .." Duke Salvador said as he looked at the girl sitting beside him.

"Hmm ..."

"The Vivere Kingdom’s Crown Prince is coming soon."

"Hmm ...."

"He went to Duke Bentham’s territory on their way here." Aiden looked at Cassandra whose eyes were closed as she rested her head on the table.

"...."

Aiden smiled as he looked at the face. Her closed eyes made her face look at peace. The long eyelashes could only be visible when Cassandra closes her eyes.

"Lord Bentham said that I should keep a distance from you." Aiden smiled as he extended his hand towards her face.

"But I don’t want to. I need you to help Princess and see you working so hard, I feel like you want to help me too."

Aiden removed the strand of hair on Princess Cassandra’s face. "But Lord Bentham thinks that I am dangerous to you."

Aiden laughed, as he caressed Princess Cassandra’s cheeks. "That I cannot protect you. So silly. I am capable of protecting the people I want to and you are my top priority now."

Duke Salvador listened to the even breathing of the Princess as he saw that she had gone into a deep slumber. "Let’s get you to bed."

Aiden got up before taking the fifth Princess in his arms. Her face rested on his chest as she rested her hands around his neck subconsciously. ’So defenseless.’

Duke Salvador smiled as he walked towards Princess Cassandra’s bed. The room was the same as he had seen it last time. There was nothing that had changed.

’Even when you are engaged to Achard, nothing more has changed in your lifestyle.’

’But something did change.’

’People now know that the fifth Princess is to be married to Lord Bentham now.’

’At least, they bow in front of you with respect, even if they say absurd things behind your back.’

Duke Salvador placed Cassandra on the bed slightly, making sure that the Princess did not wake up.

’The bed is hard. Is she comfortable here?’

Aiden looked around as he covered the Princess in fear that she might be cold.

"Sleep well, Princess. Who knows what will happen once the Vivere Kingdom’s Crown Prince arrives."

Aiden touched Cassandra’s head as she turned around. Her eyes fluttered a little before her breathing settled and turned rhythmic.

Aiden smiled before he saw her red fingers. He could not help touching them but suddenly Cassandra hissed as she took her hands towards herself.

’It must be painful.’

’Blazh said that her skin was torn and her legs had some blood on it.’

’What has the Empress done to you?’

’Is it an occasional thing?’

’How can they treat a Princess this way?’

’And yet you wrote when your hands were in pain.’

Duke Salvador looked at the Princess as he got up and moved towards the place where Cassandra was writing.

The pages were placed at a corner systematically. Aiden can guess that the Princess might have copied it. He walked towards the table as Aiden rearranged it properly.

’She has written a lot.’

Aiden looked back at the Princess who was in deep sleep. Aiden can see that the Princess had written at least fifty pages. The Princess had really worked hard.

’At this rate, she will be over in the next two days.’

Once everything was done, Aiden looked back one last time before he left her room.

Aiden could not understand why he was here. He knew he was worried when he heard that the Princess was hurt when she came out from the Empress Palace.

’I am too caring towards the fifth Princess.’

’It is unlike me.’

-----------

The Empress sat on the chair looking at Princess Valeria who was clenching her hands.

"They are not the ones." Princess Valeria said in a low tone.

"I know." The Empress sighed. She could tell at a gaze that the other Princesses were not related to Duke Salvador.

The Empress looked at her daughter whose eyes were red due to anger. "Are you sure that the Duke really likes one of the Princesses?" The Empress asked in a low tone.

"DO YOU THINK I CARE ABOUT THAT NOW?" Princess Valeria shouted as she threw the things that were on the table down.

"Valeria," The Empress said in a low tone, warning her daughter in a low tone.

"Why are you looking at me like this? You are not the one who had to go to the enemy kingdom. I AM." Princess Valeria’s breath increased. She narrowed her eyes in rage.

"It is not yet decided. It is just an assumption, Don’t show your weakness to others, Valeria."

"Do you think I care? He was the one who suggested my name. Why would he do something like that?"

The Empress was quiet. She knew that Duke Salvador did not like Valeria, but she always thought that he would still marry her. After all, the marriage did not require love. But who knew that the Duke had other plans.

"I will not marry anyone else, mother. If I do not get him, I will burn everyone that he decides to marry in the future."

"Cool down your brain, Valeria." The Empress gave the Princess a glass of water. "First we need to know if someone is in his heart. Soon the guards from the Dukedoms will enter. Make sure that you get one from Duke Salvador."

Princess Valeria looked at her mother in question.

Empress sighted. "You need to get information from them. Does the Duke really like someone?"
