CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 55: Dragon’s Den
Everyone stood in front of the Empress in a daze.
None of the princesses knew why she was here. It was as if the Empress wanted to kill someone at the moment. Everyone swallowed hard after knowing that their life would be in danger.
The Empress sat on the chair, her eyes closed as she tried to control her heavily beating heart. She could not believe that her husband, the Emperor, ignored her words. What was the use of being the Empress, by crushing every competition she had if her words were not given importance?
[He shouldn’t have done it.]
[I have to save Princess Valeria.]
[Yes, she cannot go to the enemy country,]
The Empress looked at the other Princesses standing in front of her as her gaze narrowed.
[This is their mistake.]
The air around the room turned violent as the curtains started flowing upwards. The intensity was increasing as the Empress’s rage increased. The vases crashed around the room with a bang, covering the floor with minute pieces of glasses.
All the Princesses were sitting on the ground with their heads bowed. Hearing the noises and the windy air, they trembled.
"Mother .." Princess Valeria said stopping the Empress.
Everything quieted down. The air solidified as all the things that hung in the air came crashing down.
The Empress looked at the first Princess as she waited for her daughter to continue.
"Have you called them here so that they would die?" Princess Valeria asked as she looked at the Princesses with a smirk.
"Will that make any difference?" The Empress asked as she took deep breaths to control her anger.
"It will not." Princess Valeria giggled. "But the Emperor would get mad if he knew that the fifth Princess was injured."
"Her?" The Empress’s eyes widened as she looked at the fifth Princess who was sitting there with her gaze down. "No one will care if she dies here."
"No one would have cared first, but now it is different. She is to be married to Lord Bentham. What will the Bentham’s do if they knew that their soon-to-be daughter-in-law is hurt because of you?"
The Empress took some deep breaths. "Yes, I cannot kill her anymore, but the others ..."
[I want to fly them in the air]
Cassandra’s gaze shook when she heard the Empress’s thoughts. What would happen if the Empress really decided to work on her thoughts?
"The Empress should not go that far." Princess Valeria said in a small tone. "You all look up."
All the Princess got up slowly as they looked up. They hated the Empress for treating them as maids. In the Empress’s gaze, the other Princess were like ants.
[If only mother was powerful enough.]
[I wish I could increase my power so that they both do not look down on us.]
[I will tear the smile on Princess Valeria’s face.]
Many thoughts ran into the Princess’s thoughts as they clenched their hands. Their eyes were filled with resentment and rage.
"Who is the one that danced with Duke Salvador that day?" Princess Valeria asked as she rested her head on her hand. Her eyes were burning with murderous instincts.
None of the Princess replied. They were not the ones who danced with Duke Salvador that day and they wanted to know it as well.
"What no one is ready to reply? You all don’t value your life?" Princess Valeris chuckled. "I am in no mood to have small talks today. I want a name and if I don’t get it then maybe you all have to suffer a little till I vent my anger."
The gaze of the Princess shook. But they did not say anything. You cannot answer a question whose answer you don’t know.
"So you all are not ready to say? Very well then." Princess Valeria smiled as the temperature in the room increased. Soon everyone’s skin started burning. The Princess wanted to fight back but could not. The power that the Empress held in the palace was exceeding that of what they or their mothers held. Opposing the Empress and her daughter was equivalent to asking for death itself.
"Valeria .." The Empress said. "I am still here."
Princess Valeria stopped her power as she looked at the Empress with a smile. "Then the Empress should go outside and let the sisters talk. After all, I want to know why Duke Salvador suggested sending me. He might be protecting someone."
Princess Valeria’s eyes shifted towards the princess standing there. Her hands were itching to kill before her sight rested on the fifth Princess.
"You ..." Princess Valeria pointed at the fifth Princess who looked at her in confusion. "Get out of here. I do not want Bentham’s to increase more of my problems and anyways a man like Duke Salvador would never look at someone like you."
Cassandra looked down before her gaze shifted at the Empress, who waved her hand. The situation with the fifth Princess was already sorted out and her marriage was fixed. The Empress knew that dwelling on the fifth Princess was useless.
[I need to focus on the other Princesses.]
[I will marry everyone off then the only Princess remaining for Duke Salvador will be Valeria.]
[Duke Salvador will marry Princess Valeria in the end.]
Cassandra swallowed at the wild thoughts of the Empress as she bowed down before leaving the room. Her skin was burning and her legs were numb due to kneeling. There were a few cuts on her foot because of the glass particles piercing her skin.
But Cassandra knew that she was not the only one. All the other Princesses had suffered. Some of them had blood on their hands and faces as the glass had passed through their flesh. But none of them said a word. Making a single noise was forbidden.
As Cassandra went out, her body trembled. It was not the first time they had seen the Empress and Princess Valeria behaving the way they are doing now, but all the other Princess’s hand learned their lessons. The image of a Princess who opposed them was still in their memory. The burned body and the pale face. Even after all this, no one paid attention to the incident, nor the Emperor.
It was an eye-opener for them all. No one cared about them so the only way in the palace was to keep your eyes and ears close.
’I hope everyone else survives.’ Cassandra sighed as she took some steps forward. Her legs were hurting. ’I think small pieces are still in the skin.’
Seeing Princess Cassandra coming out, Amy came running. "Princess .." Amy looked down, seeing the torn skin on the Princess Cassandra’s legs; her eyes were filled with water.
"Amy, let’s go." Cassandra shook her head as she indicated Amy to remain silent. Making noise here would only push them back in the dragon’s den.
Amy nodded as she held Princess Cassandra’s hand. The steps were small as Cassandra closed her gaze at times due to pain.
Once they have reached a secluded area, Cassandra could not walk. "Amy ..."
"Princess you stay here I will bring someone here to take yo .." Before Amy could finish her words a shadow emerged from behind, scaring them both.
"Princess Cassandra ..." A man stood there in front of Amy and Cassandra covered in black.
Amy’s body trembled as her hold on Cassandra’s increased. But Cassandra was quiet. Her eyes were still as if she knew who the man standing there was even though his face was covered.
[Duke Salvador wanted me to protect the fifth Princess ..]
[What if he knows that I have failed to do so?]
[The Princess looks in pain.]
[Should I help her?]
Cassandra smiled at the thoughts of the man.
’If I had known that the diary was so important for Duke Salvador that he had to send someone to protect me, I would have copied the contents faster.]
Cassandra looked at the man who was standing there still, a little confused.
"Do you want to help me?" Cassandra asked as tilted her head.
The man in black nodded his head as he took a step forward,
"What is your name?" Cassandra asked as she touched Amy’s hand who was confused.
"Blazh."
Cassandra nodded as she looked at Amy. "I know him, Amy." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Amy looked at Cassandra in confusion before she lost her hold on the Princess.
[Princess knows him?]
[How?]
[I need to protect the Princess from others.]
[So many men are surrounding her nowadays.]
[I should trust the Princess.]
[Princess is in pain. I need to make a medicinal paste for her wounds.]
Cassandra’s gaze softened at Amy’s thoughts as she looked at Blazh who was staring at her.
"Then sorry for the trouble," Cassandra said with a smile as she walked towards the man. But before she could take a step, Blazh stood in front of her as he touched the Princess’s feet.
Water started flowing in her body as Cassandra felt refreshed, and soon her skin was restored. Cassandra knew who the man was. He was the one that Duke Salvador had called for to heal her in the banquet.
