CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 151: Bubble
The Empress sat on her chair in a daze.
The Emperor’s words were revolving in her mind. There was a slight dizziness that she was feeling but the Empress could not grasp what it was.
The Empress yawned as her mind started revolving. With various thoughts. ’It is a good thing that the Emperor knew his mistake.’
’Once I get out of this place, I have to make sure that I pay him back for the things he has done to me.’
’But why didn’t his health look bad? I am sure that the Emperor drank the tea. The maid made sure that the teacup was empty when it came out.’
The Empress’s eyes narrowed as she looked forward. ’Is it because he has a resistance to the poison? Maybe it is the effect of consuming poison from a very young age.’
It was at that moment that the Empress remembered what Prince Cedric had to go through. As a prospective Crown Prince, Prince Cedric was at risk of attack and assassination. It was then that the Emperor started giving small amounts of poison to the Prince under surveillance so that his resistance to deadly drugs increases.
’I was a little worried in the beginning.’ The Empress remembered. It was then that she could see the Crown Prince getting sick from time to time. He could not eat food as whatever he injected was vomited out.
Although the Empress saw this, she never stopped it. After all, it was to make her son a strong man. A ruler of the future. But then the Empress started getting obsessed with poison.
Under the pretense of understanding the effects of poison on her son, The Empress started calling the doctors. And soon she knew everything that was to be known. This knowledge was very useful as she started killing people who could oppose her son from succeeding the throne.
The Empress sighed. She remembered that her husband had also gone through such training. ’I should have added a mixture of strong poisonous herbs.
The Empress rubbed her eyes as her gaze became dizzy. ’Why am I feeling so sleepy?’ The Empress thought as she got up from the chair.
She started taking steps towards the bed that was at the end of the room but before she could reach it her gaze started feeling heavy. The Empress was filled with confusion. Her legs started feeling weak as the Empress collapsed on the ground. All of her surroundings were filled with darkness as she closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
—---
When the Empress woke up she found herself hanging. Her hands felt heavy as if they were stretched and as she looked sideways the Empress saw her arms held through a knot.
The Empress was held like a prisoner. She tried moving her body but she could not. Her robe clenching on her hand was tight. The Empress wished to use her element. She was sure that the wind would help her but to her dismay, the Empress found her hands in a fist. A rock-like substance covered them, making them unable to move.
The Empress’s eyes widened. She knew who would do such a thing to her. The burning desire to kill everyone grew stronger. But when the Empress looked around she could not find anyone.
"WHERE ARE YOU?" The Empress shouted as she struggled to move out but there was unknown energy stopping her movement. The Empress’ eyes narrowed as she found a layer of air surrounding her. It was as if she was in a bubble which she could not leave. As much as the Empress struggled, the bubble reduced its size.
But it was not the only thing that made the Empress freeze in place. The layer surrounding her like a bubble was not single. It was a double layer. As the Empress looked closely, she noticed that the layers were divided. The layer surrounding her had aired a bit after that there was another layer that did not have anything.
The Empress thought harder as she narrowed her eyes further. The layer in the middle did not have air and then it was a large layer on the outside of the normal environment.
The Empress swallowed. She knew that if she struggled further then there would be a chance that she would enter into the layer of no air.
’I will die there because of suffocation.’
’But if I am able to struggle a lot then maybe I can make it out alive.’
The Empress moved her face up and down to determine the time required to close both the layers but she could not understand. The Empress sighed.
"IS ANYBODY THERE?" the Empress shouted with all her might. She could feel the voice revolving but no one came inside. The Empress looked around carefully in hopes of finding clues that would help her to determine her location.
All the Empress could see were tall walls. There was darkness surrounding her. ’I am in a tower? But where? I feel like I have seen this place.’
Soon the Empress felt like something was crawling on her. Her eyes turned down and much to her horror, she saw a pair of poisonous snakes. The Empress’s eyes widened as she tried moving her snake away from her body but as she struggled her bubble started shrinking.
The Empress was at a loss. She knew the snakes. She had raised them. The yellow color on their tails was an indication of their poison.
"HELP!"
"SOMEONE HELP ME!"
"ANYONE?"
The tears started rolling in her eyes. She was feeling helpless.
"Aren’t these the snakes that the Empress raised?" A voice spoke as the Empress’s heartbeats fastened. She looked in the direction to see that the Emperor was walking towards her.
"YOU DID THIS!" The Empress screamed as her heartbeats refused to stay silent. "WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?"
The Empress was getting breathless. Her eyes were dizzying out. She knew all of the symptoms. She had seen the same thing happening to many people.
"You poisoned me ..." The Empress’s voice turned low. She wanted to express her anger but she could not do so. Her power was drawing out.
"Did I, now?" The Emperor laughed. He walked towards the Empress as the noise of his step revolved in the area. "If the Empress had stayed quiet in her palace and not threatened me then I would have let you live. But just because I was ignorant, you thought I was weak."
The Emperor’s lips curled up. "You decided to put yourself before the people’s safety. Your daughter is dangerous and you know it too and yet..." The Emperor shook his head.
"It’s all in the past now. I would have released you out of that place if only you would not have tried to kill me." The Emperor laughed as his eyes turned sharp. "Trying to murder an Emperor is a crime punishable by death, my Empress but I decided to let you experience the world you had created."
The Emperor looked down as he saw the snakes. "A rare species whose poison is undetected in the body. No wonder the doctors could not find the source of this unknown poison."
The Empress’s eyes widened as a thought flashed through her mind. ’He knows.’
The fear she was feeling was real. The faces of innocent children and women came in front of her eyes. They all died because of her.
"When you were asleep the poison was already injected in you. I do not have to tell you what it will do to your body." The Emperor chuckled, "Oh, did the Empress see what I did there? It’s a beautiful bubble."
The Empress was looking at the Emperor with hate. The Emperor raised his eyebrows as he took a step forward. "You are not the only one who can control the wind, my Empress. I am the strongest mage here." The Emperor enjoyed seeing the Empress suffer the same faith that she had left others with.
"Anyways, something of the two will kill you eventually." The Emperor turned around as he left.
The Empress was angry as she struggled. Her eyes widened. She knew what the poison did to the body. It would make one breathless and soon the person will die due to lack of air.
The Empress struggled as she found the effect taking place on her. As she struggled the bubble reduced. The Empress tried moving her hands as she wanted to expand them with her powers but because the Emperor had used his powers, the cuff on her wrist tightened. Her blood started dripping as the Empress tried her best.
Soon she crossed the bubble as she entered the area that did not have any air. The Empress held her breath as her eyes turned red. She moved with all her power but the Empress had miscalculated. The second layer was much farther.
The ropes were piercing her and the Empress felt she was about to die. The pain and suffocation were too much for her to handle. All the Empress could think of was her children. There was only regret filling her eyes.
’What if she would not have raised the snakes? What if she would not have killed others? What if she would be more loving and caring? Would things have turned out differently?’
The Empress screamed as the rope embedded into her skin and soon her mouth opened in the area where there was no oxygen. Her eyes widened as she dropped down, hanging through the rope. Her body is lifeless.
No one knew how the Empress died? Was it the poison or was it the lack of air? Or was it due to the injury on her hands that cut through a vital vein?
But one thing was for sure, the Empress died in regret. A death she had never imagined.
