Chapter 122: Never too late

The King was startled at Princess Cassandra’s words.

It was as if the King had a guilty conscience as he hurriedly shook his head and started giving explanations. "What plan will we have? Of course not. All we care about is you. Not because you have unique powers but because of your mother."

"My mother." Princess Cassandra gave a soft wink to Aiden who was still on his knees as she looked at the King with a shocked expression.

"So you know my mother." Princess Cassandra’s eyes shook as she got up in excitement. Her hands were on the table as she leaned in with tearful eyes. "Tell me who she was. Prince Carl had told me that he would help me find things about my mother but now .."

Princess Cassandra’s eyes shone with emotions as she swallowed. "King, my mother was someone who I had always imagined. I never knew who she was or how she looked. She had always existed in my dreams and imagination. But now that I know that someone really knows my mother I feel like I can finally figure out the answer to my questions."

The King’s heart grew nervous. He did not know how he said the words he said but he regretted it now.

[I should have been more careful.]

[Why is this happening?]

The King looked at the fifth Princess whose face was looking ugly by all the crying. He could feel that the emotions that Princess Cassandra’sfeelings were real.

[I cannot deal with her.]

The King sighed as he looked at the fifth Princess with a dull gaze. "The Princess needs to understand my situation. I cannot help you directly but I can find someone who will help you."

"Someone who will help me?" Princess Cassandra tilted her head as she looked at the King in confusion. Her voice was still cracking but there was a slight tremble in it. "Do others know my mother too? You should tell me this soon. My mind is hurting just thinking about other possibilities."

[Touch his hand now.] The voices demanded as Cassandra’s eyes sharpened. She moved forward unexpectedly as she touched the King’s hand as tears started coming out of her eyes. "Tell me who will help me."

[Close your eyes and focus. Let the power sink in.] The voice commanded.

Princess Cassandra swallowed as she rested her head on the King’s hand, crying continuously. Cassandra controlled her breathing as she let the flow enter her body. After experiencing it twice, Cassandra was not as afraid as before.

[Enough.]

As soon as Princess Cassandra got the clue, she looked up into the King’s eyes who was confused. "Please."

Listening to Princess Cassandra’s last words the King came back from his thoughts. He nodded his head as he smiled, pulling his hands out. "The Grand Duke will help you."

The King looked at Princess Cassandra’s personal guard who had gotten up and was standing behind the Princess.

Duke Salvador looked at the King and moved towards the fifth Princess as he touched her shoulders giving her some support.

Once Princess Cassandra came into Duke Salvador’s arms she continued crying but her fingers were tapping on his arms, away from the sight of the King.

Duke Salvador understood what the fifth Princess was trying to say. She wanted to end the conversation here. He patted the fifth Princess’s shoulders as he said. "Princess, you should control your emotions. The King had given you his words. He will surely help you."

Princess Cassandra nodded her hand as she rubbed her eyes. She bowed down in a hurry as she said in a sorrowful tone. "Forgive me for my rudeness. I am not feeling well so I did not know what I was doing." Cassandra looked up as she stood straight. "I will meet the Grand Duke soon. Till my stay here I will not create any problem for the King and the Vivere Kingdom."

The King touched his head as he looked at the fifth Princess in annoyance. He was having a headache by dealing with her continuous change in emotions.

"Rest Princess." The King smiled as he gave the fifth Princess and her personal guard permission to leave.

Princess Cassandra did not waste any more time as she left the study room soon. She did not stop anywhere as she turned around towards her room but a person was standing there that made her stop.

The man looked up at the Princess as he took a few steps towards her.

Princess Cassandra swallowed as she looked up. "Lord Bentham."

Achard Bentham looked behind the Princess before looking at her again. "Princess, we need to talk."

—-------------

Princess Cassandra and Lord Bentham were sitting at the table as Duke Salvador stood behind the fifth Princess with sharp eyes.

There was an awkward silence in the room as both Princess Cassandra and Lord Bentham stared at each other.

"I heard you met the King." Lord Bentham asked in a worried tone. "Did something happen?"

Princess Cassandra shook her head in denial. "No, nothing happened."

"Then why are you crying?" Lord Bentham’s tone was sharp. The first thing he noticed was Princess Cassandra’s dried tears. It was not a pleasant thing to watch.

"It was happy tears." Princess Cassandra smiled "The King said that he would send Grand Duke to tell me about my mother."

"Mother?" Lord Bentham’s eyes narrowed. "Did the King tell that to you?"

"Yes," Princess Cassandra looked down at her hand. "The King was very sweet. Maybe more than the Emperor."

"I wonder sometimes who my mother is." The fifth Princess closed her eyes as she continued. "What her behavior might be. How happy she would have been to see me grow up."

Princess Cassandra’s tone was soft. Her hidden emotions were coming out. Cassandra could not understand why she was telling all these things to Lord Bentham. It might be because of the King.

Princess Cassandra thought that she might have been saying all those things because she had been thinking about her mother a lot lately. All the love and care that she wanted. All the emotions that were piled up within herself were coming out.

’Maybe talking with the King had brought the emotions out.’ Princess Cassandra thought as she smiled. Her eyes looked at the Lord but they still felt distance. "How I wished I would have gotten the love like the other Princesses got from their mother. Sometimes I think, was it my fault that I had lost my mother? Why would she leave me alone at such a young age? Is she alive or is she dead? Some people said she died but ..."

Princess Cassandra’s voice choked. She did not want to cry but her tears started flowing again.

Lord Bentham did not know how to make Princess Cassandra feel better. He felt like he was feeling the fifth Princess’s emotions.

"You know Princess. I am an orphan too. Even though Duke Bentham and Duchess loved me like their child, I always wanted to sleep in my mother’s arms. I wanted to feel the love a mother gives her child."

Princess Cassandra smiled innocently. She looked at the Lord. "But you had a mother at your side. You have been loved." Princess Cassandra complained.

Lord Bentham saw the sadness in the fifth Princess’s gaze as he sighed. He got up from his seat as he walked towards the Princess.

"We are not that different. No matter what we feel like there is something that has always kept us connected." Lord Bentham touched the fifth Princess’s head as he ran his hands through her hair. "I want to be your most important person Princess. It’s never too late."

Princess Cassandra looked up at the Lord with narrowed eyes. "Never too late?"

Lord Bentham laughed as he touched Princess Cassandra’s cheeks. He could see her eyes widening at his action.

[Princess I will be your most important person.]

[After all, I am your family.]

[And we do anything for the family.]

Princess Cassandra swallowed as she listened to Lord Bentham’s words. She did not know how to react.

"Lord." Princess Cassandra managed to say as her eyes looked back at Duke Salvador as his gaze was fixed on Lord Bentham.

Cassandra could feel Duke Salvador’s hands forming a fist as he took deep breaths. She knew that the situation could get out of hand soon. Cassandra knew that the Duke was feeling betrayed by the secrets Lord Bentham had kept for years.

Achard Bentham smiled as he looked at the fifth Princess. "I heard you are not feeling well. I hope that you get better soon. Let your body get used to the Vivere Kingdom."

Princess Cassandra’s breathing increased as she looked at Lord Bentham coming towards her. Her breath hitched as the Lord’s lips touched her forehead. It was a completely different feeling. Cassandra was feeling suffocated as she clenched her hands.

"Take care, Princess." With those words, Lord Bentham left the room.

There was an uncomfortable silence in the room as Princess Cassandra looked up at Duke Salvador’s eyes.
