Coming to pick me up from the airport, in addition to that raving Guo Jingya, were two unexpected visitors - Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan. Their company also included an unexpected guest, The Fifth Young Master Guo.

Originally, Guo Jingya and her assistant, Nana, were going to be joined by The Fifth Young Master Guo, a total of three. But they ended up bringing six bodyguards along. Yan Fei remembered that normally, each of the siblings would have two bodyguards.

The six bodyguards surrounded them, two in front clearing the way, one on each side, and two trailing behind. None of the other people at the airport made such a show like them. In fact, others, unclear of their background, tend to steer clear of the commotion.

Upon seeing Xu Xiaoyan, Guo Jingya completely ignored Yan Fei and started chatting nonstop.

The Fifth Young Master Guo, left to the side, showed an awkward smile. He stepped forward and said to Yan Fei, "Hello, Boss Yan! Welcome! After the gracious hospitality you showed my little sister last time, it’s only right that we return the favour... "

In response to his polite words, Yan Fei merely smiled and nodded, "That’s kind of you. We are not usually out this far. We’ve lost all sense of direction since we got here. Is there still a lot of turmoil in Hong Kong? You both venture out with an entourage?"

The Fifth Young Master Guo chuckled. He guessed his sister must have told Yan Fei about the situation in Hong Kong during her visit. He explained, "After the recent handover, it’s feared that some people may stir up trouble. These guys were hired a while back, so I thought, why not keep them around."

Yan Fei nodded in understanding, "The wealthy have their troubles too! You should come and visit us if you want to relax. Although our place isn’t as bustling, it’s certainly safer."

"I’d love to visit sometime!" said The Fifth Young Master Guo, probably not expecting an invitation from Yan Fei. "You’ll have to look after us when we do!"

He remembered his sister telling him about Yan Fei taking care of the tolls during their road trip. Even though he only had a vague idea of what mainland China was like, one thing was clear from Yan Fei’s words. With China’s ban on private firearms and Yan Fei’s formidable skills, he couldn’t imagine a safer place than Yan Fei’s home.

Yan Fei responded with humility, "Don’t call me a boss. You know how much I’m worth. I probably couldn’t even afford a decent house in Hong Kong with all my assets combined."

He wasn’t exaggerating. Despite widespread concerns about the economy in Southeast Asia, with one country recently forced to establish a fixed exchange rate and its currency plummeted by 20% on day one, the economy in Hong Kong remained robust, especially in real estate.

Nowadays, a decent villa in Hong Kong would set you back a billion. With all his assets combined plus a little saving, Yan Fei would still be short of the money he needs. Being called a boss at home is one thing, but here in Hong Kong, it sounds hollow.

Hearing this, The Fifth Young Master Guo corrected himself, "Alright, I’ll just call you Master Yan!"

Laughing, he turned to the new bodyguards and said, "If you haven’t met Yan before, you should know he’s a true master of Kung Fu."

Those who have seen Yan Fei in action knew this to be true. They all nodded in agreement. They hadn’t met anyone as skilled as Yan Fei; except in the movies, and those were just fakes.

Just as Yan Fei was about to respond, Guo Jingya beckoned them over. So Yan Fei and The Fifth Young Master Guo went to join her.

The feeling of trying to make small talk was quite weird for Yan Fei. The lives he and The Fifth Young Master Guo have led are completely different, like two different worlds, making it hard to find common ground for conversation.

He could hardly share his childhood experiences, like blowing up condoms like balloons just to amuse themselves at school. While this would have been a novel topic, it might have been alien to the Guo siblings’ life experiences. He wouldn’t want to cause any trouble by shocking them...

The Fifth Young Master Guo was also at a loss. The only thing he could boast about was which sugar baby he had slept with. However, he doubted whether Yan Fei would be interested in discussing such gossip...

Thankfully, once they were all in the car, the availability of conversation topics increased. A knowledgeable bodyguard took on the role of a tour guide, thereby saving them from the awkward small talk and sparing everyone’s blushes.

The scenery they passed on the way was pleasing, especially the coast, which was crisp and clean on the first sight.

Their city, Wan City, located inside a basin, rarely gets any breeze. Also, the city has been struggling to keep up with its urban development. Sure, there are many gravel roads around due to the surrounding agricultural fields, and hence, lots of dust. But that’s normal.

Shen City, on the other hand, is coastal and surrounded by mountains due to its geographical position. As Yan Fei instinctively compared Shen City to Sancha River, it was clear that Shen City was the winner. In contrast, dust storms in Sancha River after a few dry days were quite a sight.

As they entered Shen City, they noticed many new buildings, unlike Wan City, where you can easily spot some pre-liberation era houses. And of course, there were city plans, road conditions, and so on. The difference between a newly developing city and an old city was evident.

Just as they were taking everything in, The Fifth Young Master Guo’s old school mobile phone rang.

It was from Guo Jingya in the other car. She told him that they weren’t going to Hong Kong for the time being; instead, they were heading to check out the site of The Sixth Miss Guo’s new restaurant.

The old school mobile phone has been getting smaller. Currently, it only weighs about half a catty, so it doesn’t strain the wrist after a long call. But regardless of its size, Yan Fei found no reason to be envious. It may be convenient, but is also very expensive. To him, using it felt like being a dupe. Saying just a word costs dimes, and both parties have to pay. What a rip-off.

Soon several cars arrived at the destination. Before Yan Fei had a chance to look around, The Sixth Miss Guo was already walking towards him with Xu Xiaoyan by her side, showing off boastfully, "See that? The second floor contains my restaurant. If you go to the higher floors of this building, you can see Hong Kong straight away. Over there is the fashion market; it’s all surrounded by shopping malls, definitely a prime location."

It was merely boasting. The newly-leased house was still under renovation; there was nothing attractive to see.

After a quick tour upstairs, The Sixth Miss Guo was in high spirits. She pointed to the still empty hall and introduced it to Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan, "This space here will be larger than my original restaurant. I plan to make it a chain restaurant, so that once you have my membership card, you can get discounts in Hong Kong and here. Moreover, I’ve been eyeing a few new locations. Once this restaurant is on a steady profit, I would continue to expand..."

No one else probably wanted to listen to her so-called ’gourmet empire’ plan, or the people she knew didn’t care about her small business. Now that she finally had an eager listener in Xu Xiaoyan, she could not help but enthuse herself.

She was so engrossed that she decided to skip the trip to Hong Kong: "You guys didn’t get a good meal on the plane, right? Let’s find a place to eat here and then go to the local fashion market together. You’ve never been to Shen City, so it’s a good opportunity. The clothing here is very cheap and there are many styles to choose from. I’ve been busy planning for this new restaurant during my vacation and I’ve been not shopping for a while..."

Yan Fei noticed that The Fifth Young Master Guo looked a bit upset and asked, "What’s wrong?"

The Fifth Young Master Guo was fairly annoyed: "If they go shopping, we will definitely have to wait until evening before we can go to Hong Kong."

Yan Fei didn’t care either, "They will stop shopping when they get tired!"

They all decided to walk, since the area was filled with shops and markets. At first, The Fifth Young Master Guo followed the group, but then his beloved sister suggested he took his bodyguards and stayed farther away, arguing that having Yan Fei with them was enough.

Delighted, The Fifth Young Master Guo loitered behind with his men.

Yan Fei thought it was a perfect opportunity. He had been wanting to buy some clothes for his wife, and now he had the chance, he wasn’t going to let it pass him by. Apparently, the girls weren’t hungry, so there was no need for lunch. They went straight to shopping.

It was evident that Guo Jingya and her assistant had no intention of buying clothes from this kind of market; they were there just to stroll. Nonchalantly, they were still browsing in the wholesale market.

The clothes in the wholesale market were really cheap. Garments of a few dimes or a few dollars were everywhere. Many of the customers were workers who were buying clothes to take home. Yan Fei could hear some of them bargaining in heavy dialects; clearly, they were retailers.

After recalling his limited shopping experiences, Yan Fei had a realization about the huge profit in retailing clothes. Trendy jeans were incredibly cheap here, but in Wan City’s clothing market, they could sell for hundreds or even higher. If they encountered a customer who didn’t know how to bargain, they could earn back the cost of the trip with a single sale.

He even thought that if he had known about this, he might not have opted for breeding cattle and instead would have engaged in clothes retailing. After all, he has the ability to fly, thereby saving on transportation costs, he would certainly earn more than others.

However, he was merely fantasizing. If he had started by selling clothes, he probably would have been overwhelmed by haggling customers. Those days, he was comfortable sitting at his doorstep selling scythes and hoes because the prices for these items were fixed, and one did not have to haggle for them.

The clothes priced from a few dimes to a few dollars were just for show. As one would expect, the prestigious Sixth Miss Guo from the Guo family probably had never worn such cheap clothes.

However, her understanding of the clothes was evidently greater than Yan Fei’s understanding of beef. At least Yan Fei didn’t know how many famous overseas beef brands there were, whereas The Sixth Miss Guo pointed at certain clothes and could effortlessly cite a few foreign terms. She mentioned how similar a certain style was to a certain famous brand, and how much a piece from said brand would cost, and so on.

Xu Xiaoyan didn’t really want to shop for clothes, and Yan Fei didn’t want to buy her such cheap clothes either, so they just casually wandered about.

It wasn’t until that afternoon that Yan Fei discovered that Shen City does have a history, at least it has a pedestrian street which can be considered to have a long history.

After touring the market and entering a mall, Yan Fei finally suggested buying some clothes for Xu Xiaoyan.

The Sixth Miss Guo disagreed: "Why buy here? The clothes in Hong Kong are not inferior, and they are all genuine brands. There’s no need to worry about buying counterfeits."

She shouldn’t have mentioned it because it actually prompted Xu Xiaoyan to want to shop here: "Let’s buy a couple of items here then!"

Both, The Sixth Miss Guo and Nana, couldn’t understand why Yanfei was so insistent on shopping here, but Yan Fei knew exactly why. The two of them had discussed before their trip that they would certainly buy her some clothes once they arrived.

However, fashion expert Guo Jingya’s earlier exposition on the prices of well-known brands had completely frightened Yan Fei. Such ridiculously high prices for clothes, even if Yan Fei did buy them for her, she probably wouldn’t dare to wear them. Just a little bit of dust on them would distress her for half a day.

As a result, they shopped for clothes until dusk.

Stepping out of the shopping mall, they met up with The Fifth Young Master Guo, who’d been lounging at a tea house nearby with his bodyguards. The Sixth Miss Guo, looking out at the brightly lit streets while clutching her stomach, asked with a worried look, "Sister Xiaoyan, are you hungry? Shall we find a place to eat here?"
