Car Racing without Money-Chapter 512 - 200: Offense Is the Best Defense (Part 2)
Many people, when boasting about their driving skills, have claimed they could drive an F1 single-handedly.
Kubica truly drove an F1 single-handedly!
Many people regret Kubica’s misfortune, believing that if he had joined the Ferrari Team, he could have become the next championship contender. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The 2010 season was Kubica’s last healthy season and also his peak moment.
Even though the Renault racing car wasn’t very competitive, Kubica still squeezed out the performance limits, using the fastest speed to catch up to the back of Chen Xiangbei’s car, waiting for the right moment to launch his attack.
Even Rosberg couldn’t stop Kubica, and theoretically, Chen Xiangbei was even less likely to stop him!
The race entered the fifth lap, and Kubica had not yet attacked.
This wasn’t because he was kind-hearted, but rather the calm before the storm!
The kinetic energy recovery system of that era didn’t need charging, but it required braking to store energy in the flywheel. In the process of overtaking Rosberg, Kubica had already released the kinetic energy in the flywheel.
He needed to stock up again, to deliver a fatal blow to Chen Xiangbei in the strongest state.
"Kubica was 0.2 seconds faster than Xiangbei-san in the last lap. Continuous overtaking battles are greatly consuming Xiangbei-san’s tires, and according to the data, Renault’s tire wear is lower than ours."
Mizutani Sho reported with a worried expression, at this rate, Chen Xiangbei might be 0.3 seconds slower than Kubica in the fifth lap.
This speed gap, TF110 can’t stop the R30.
Facing Mizutani Sho’s words, the people at the outdoor command post didn’t speak; actually, they didn’t need to report and remind, their experience already told them what would happen next.
But at this moment, Briatore, who was in the P room with the air conditioning on, inserted a sentence through the team’s synchronized audio.
"The best defense is offense, Bei won’t try to block."
"Manager, what do you mean?"
Mizutani Sho asked back, the track isn’t a duel, how could Xiangbei-san attack Kubica.
"Bei will attack Weber, forcing the opponent to block the opponent!"
As Briatore’s words fell, Chen Xiangbei arrived at the combination of T9 and T10 corners, also collectively referred to as the "Bahrain Bend."
Bahrain Bend is a series of low-speed left turns (T9), followed by a right turn (T10), seemingly ordinary, but actually the slowest section of the track, testing mechanical grip and traction control to the extreme, with a very bumpy road surface.
Testing mechanical grip and traction control means minimizing the efficiency gap of the aerodynamic package.
Equally equipped with a blown diffuser, the Red Bull Racing can be considered an upgraded TF110. Competing in high-speed corners, Chen Xiangbei is hard pressed to surpass Weber; he can only drag the Red Bull RB6 into a field that neither car excels at for a duel.
To purely compete on driving skills and the perception and control of the car!
Honestly, Chen Xiangbei’s current hard driving skills should be inferior to the veteran Weber.
But Chen Xiangbei trusts that his car sense won’t lose to the opponent.
Moreover, compared to veteran drivers, the biggest advantage of newcomers is their zeal and faith.
Chen Xiangbei can go all out like a torpedo, but Weber won’t go down with a rookie!
That’s why, during the rookie period, Verstappen was mocked by all as a "loose cannon."
As time passed and after becoming a world champion, his driving style became much steadier, even learning to give way.
Drivers wearing shoes have many more considerations!
On the short straight into T9, Chen Xiangbei didn’t decelerate at the conventional braking point but chose hard braking to change lanes outside to overtake Weber’s Red Bull RB6 side-by-side into the turn.
Watching the TF110 car appear beside him, inside Weber’s heart was more of surprise; could the Chinese rookie not know that Bahrain Bend requires using the entire inside curb to create the best line for the T10 corner?
Remember, T10 is the slowest speed on the track, requiring extreme finesse in throttle control.
It requires a very smooth, gradual throttle input; any slight increase in foot pressure would result in rear wheel spinning, and severe cases would lead directly to a spin!
Is the Chinese rookie so confident that by going outside through the T10 corner, he can overtake at a faster speed without spinning?
"James, driver Bei is a bit anxious, he chose to act at the Bahrain Bend, which isn’t a good timing."
As a local, Emil naturally understood the running and challenges of the "Bahrain Bend."
Slow corners seem simple to catch up and surpass speed-wise, but in reality, it’s all about the exit speed.
Failing to challenge Alonso apparently didn’t give the Chinese rookie enough lessons, yet again he foolhardily comes to challenge Weber.
Does he seriously think the Australian is an easy target?
"Kubica is putting great pressure on Bei; his speed makes it too easy to lose control."
James agreed with Emil’s words; he understands the young driver’s enthusiasm.
But F1 isn’t something that can be solved solely with zeal.
Even someone as strong as Senna couldn’t overcome fate when facing Schumacher’s pursuit!
No one is optimistic about Chen Xiangbei, not even HRT team members holding longstanding racing experience and objective ideas, also believe that overtaking at "Bahrain Bend" is too difficult.
Chen Xiangbei is very likely to pay the price for his impulsiveness.
"Xiangbei, stay steady!"
In the P room, Lu Xiaoman had already clasped her hands together nervously.
She might not have the professional understanding but could comprehend Chen Xiangbei’s aggressiveness and risk-taking.
The two cars entered the right turn side-by-side, with Chen Xiangbei, originally on the outside, now on the inside.
However, due to his excessive cornering speed and inability to perfectly utilize the line cut, the TF110 car slid uncontrollably towards the outside of the track, with the rear wheels on the white line of the curb, visibly spinning.
