"Mu Yuze," He Juan began softly, the faint tremor in his voice revealing a glimpse of nervousness he tried to hide. "You’re my precious, my sunshine, my anchor, and my one and only light. With you by my side, I’m certain that I can never go down the wrong path. You’ve made a better man out of me, so... will you give me a chance to cherish and treasure you for as long as I live?"

Mu Yuze was so shocked that he could only gawk at He Juan in disbelief. "Y–You... how..." his gaze shifted from the ring to He Juan’s eyes, then the ring again, back and forth.

They had always been together lately, so where did this ring come from...?

As though sensing the question in his mind, He Juan cleared his throat and explained with a hint of shy awkwardness, "Oh, I’ve had this ring customized since the day I returned to Yuyang."

Once again, Mu Yuze’s mind was reeling from the shocking revelation. The day he returned to Yuyang? His mind automatically drifted to the day when He Juan had come home late and made him wait for hours, so... he went to... order this ring? B–But it had been months ago!

To think that He Juan had made up his mind about him for so long...

Sighing, He Juan added with a helpless look, "I had planned to propose in a more romantic setting. You know, on an official date with candlelight dinner and a bouquet of flowers, but..." he gazed at Mu Yuze, smiling tenderly. "I changed my mind yesterday. When I watched your sleeping face, I knew I had to do it now, and I want my family to be the witness—"

Unable to contain himself any longer, Mu Yuze abruptly pounced on He Juan, tackling the man to the ground. "Yes," he sobbed into He Juan’s shoulder. "Yes, yes, yes!"

Receiving a proposal after candlelight dinner with a bouquet of flowers sounded ideal, but... for Mu Yuze, nothing was more perfect and romantic than He Juan proposing to him in front of his deceased family. It just felt so private, intimate and sacred, so much that Mu Yuze couldn’t suppress the burst of joy that almost vibrated out of his body.

"I... I want to marry you!" Tears streamed down Mu Yuze’s cheeks as he blubbered, "I’ve wanted to marry you since I was fifteen!"

He Juan was caught off guard by that sudden declaration. When he recovered, delightful laughter bubbled out of his throat but at the same time, his eyes also turned red with tears. Holding his precious omega in his arms, he whispered the words from the bottom of his heart, his voice thick with emotions, "Thank you... for loving me, for giving me another chance, for waiting for me all these years... thank you so much..." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Mu Yuze had already turned into such a crying mess that he could no longer give another reply aside from nodding again and again.

If it’s you, he wished to convey, as long as it’s you, I’m willing to wait for a lifetime.

It took them a while to regain their composure. After Mu Yuze’s cries subsided into occasional hiccups, He Juan retrieved the ring from the box and solemnly slid it into the fourth finger of his left hand.

It was a perfect fit.

A brilliant smile spread across He Juan’s face as he brought the hand to his lips, placing an almost pious kiss on the ring. "Happy birthday, Mu Yuze," he muttered. Upon seeing the blank look on the omega’s face, He Juan threw his head back and laughed out loud, "I knew it. You’ve forgotten, have you not?"

"I... I..." Mu Yuze’s pupils trembled violently.

Somewhere between the revelation about the secret experiments, the kidnapping accident, and He Juan’s rut, Mu Yuze had thrown his birthday to the back of his mind. Who could have guessed that He Juan would remember it for him? No, that’s not right. This person had always remembered it without fail. As long as he could, he would always celebrate Mu Yuze’s birthday with him and give him the best gift.

And this year, too, was no exception.

Mu Yuze felt so overwhelmed with emotions that he could do nothing but throw himself forward, hug He Juan and kiss him deeply, desperately trying to convey how much he loved this man.

It had been more than two weeks since the police released an official report regarding the secret experiments to answer the Wunan Road Massacre that had occurred seven years ago.

Back then, XIU was locked in as the prime culprit and was hunted down by the whole nation. He became a wanted criminal scorned by the public.

But seven years later, the truth was finally out. XIU had never been the perpetrator. He was never the greedy and power-hungry individual the media had portrayed him to be. Instead, he had been destroying these research facilities and gathered a massive amount of evidence along the way!

The reversal came so suddenly that it took the whole country by storm. Almost everyone knew about the Wunan Road Massacre. It was a tragic accident that had claimed nine lives and wounded many others. It was also this very incident which blackened XIU’s image, reducing him from a revered hero to a despised criminal. Even though seven years had passed and the hype over the accident had long since cooled down, the public was still taken aback by the truth. Many couldn’t help but feel guilty for accusing XIU back then.

[I knew it... something was truly fishy with the media at that time! They’re all rushing to throw blame on XIU, while my man merely went under the radar!]

[Oh my God, does it mean the mutants are real?! They’re really more powerful than superior Alphas?!]
