Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 682: Devil Of The Underworld
The man introduced himself as Zhong Yun, claiming that he had come with He Juan, and was tasked to update them. He stuttered anxiously, "T–They... they’ve been inside for more than forty minutes, but I haven’t heard anything from them yet!"
Li Zhi observed him with skepticism. At first glance, he could immediately tell that this man was a drug addict, which prompted the question— what did XIU bring him here for? Were they acquaintances? Why did he appear so guarded and wary? For Li Zhi could tell for certain that his behavior did not stem from the fear of being apprehended...
A lot of questions swirled in Li Zhi’s mind, but he knew that now was not the time to chase for answers. Their current priority was to rescue Mu Yuze and capture those involved with the kidnapping, including their own comrade.
For now, he decided to give Zhong Yun the benefit of doubt.
"Alright, Zhong Yun," Li Zhi nodded. "Which way did XIU go, and how many people did he take with him?"
"Only two..." Zhong Yun explained. "XIU took the east building and Mr. Chen took the west. I don’t know about Miss Ye, but I suppose she is also in the building. Hurry... you have to save Mu Yuze before anything bad happens to him!" he implored in a haste.
After a few more inquiries and confirming that no one else had come here after XIU, Li Zhi organized his team into two groups. "Team 1 and I will head to the east building. Team 2, west building. As for Agent Tak..." he shifted his attention to Tak Jung-Hwa, whose entire person was shrouded in a gloom. His complexion was a little pale, perhaps due to the rut suppressor he had just taken, or because he had lost the two targets in the hospital.
"I will go with Team 2." He pleaded, "Captain Li, please allow me to join the team so that I can redeem my mistakes."
Li Zhi massaged his throbbing temple. "But your arm..."
Tak Jung-Hwa straightened up and declared firmly. "Don’t worry about it, Sir. I can still fight!"
Li Zhi weighed his options carefully. Having a superior Alpha around was indeed an extra assurance, especially when they were dealing with a mutated Omega. Moreover, Tak Jung-Hwa had been injected with the rut suppressor so they did not have to worry that he would be affected by the pheromones. Their manpower was limited, and they needed everyone they could get at the moment.
"Fine," he eventually relented. "Agent Tak will go with Team 2. We will communicate through the walkie-talkie!"
After distributing the tasks, the group split into two and entered through different entrances. Li Zhi reloaded his gun, his sharp gaze sweeping the dark hallway as the officer behind him illuminated their path. Judging from the uneven dust patterns on the ground, it was apparent that people had passed through not too long ago.
"Ugh..." a muffled groan sounded behind him, and Li Zhi turned his head with a whoosh, finding one of the officers covering his mouth and nose with his face contorted in pain.
"What is it?" Li Zhi inquired with a frown.
"Captain, you can’t smell it because you’re a Beta," the officer elaborated with much difficulty. "But in this place, I can sense thick hostile pheromones belonging to a superior Alpha, and if I’m not wrong... then they’re currently in pre-rut!"
"What?!" Li Zhi exclaimed in shock. "Is that XIU?"
"I– I have never smelled XIU’s pheromones before, so I’m not sure. But..."
But if not him, who else?
Li Zhi cursed under his breath. The officer was the only Alpha in their team, so Li Zhi dismissed him and told him to get fresh air outside. He couldn’t have his men going into a rut in the middle of the operation. He also instructed the officer to call an ambulance.
The remaining team members proceeded with caution.
"Captain, if Old Huang can sense it from here, does it mean it’s going to be more intense out there?" An officer voiced with concern. "What if they’ve gone feral?"
Li Zhi’s expression instantly sank when he heard that. A feral superior Alpha in rut... that was the last thing he ever wished to encounter. "If he’s really gone feral," he stated somberly. "Then we have to exert all our strengths to bring him down."
Despite his firm tone, countless questions swam inside his mind. Did something really happen to XIU? What was going on here? It was so unlike him to lose control to this extent, so... did it mean something had happened to Mu Yuze?
Li Zhi pursed his lips tightly, his brows furrowed.
In the next moment, everyone raised their heads sharply as they heard the obvious sounds of battle upstairs.
"Go up!" Li Zhi barked out a direct order.
They rushed up the stairs with Li Zhi taking the lead, and the closer they got to the source of the commotion, the heavier the air became. This overwhelming pressure... it was really no joke! They hadn’t even reached the destination yet, and it was already becoming harder to breathe! Despite being Betas and unable to smell pheromones, they would still be affected by the pressure released by the superior Alpha, and the sheer discomfort coursing through their bodies only meant one thing – bad news!
Li Zhi gritted out, "Keep going! We’re almost there!"
Climbing to the second floor, then the third, and finally the fourth, they reached the floor facilitating the skywalk linked to the next building. And as soon as Li Zhi slammed the door open, the pungent stench of blood assaulted his senses, shocking him down to the core.
An extremely terrifying scene unfolded before his eyes.
The walls and floors were covered in splashes of blood as more than a dozen men cried out in rage, lunging at the figure at the center. If not for the familiar body build and his trademark long hair, Li Zhi wouldn’t have recognized him at all.
At that moment, he was covered in blood from head to toe, though it was uncertain whose blood it belonged to. His movement was brutal and savage as he tore apart the people who stood in his way toward the skywalk, disregarding the attacks that landed on his body. He was swift, lethal and deadly; it was as if he couldn’t feel any pain at all.
When Li Zhi stared at that figure, a chill rose from the bottom of his heart, and the long lost moniker popped into his mind.
Devil of the underworld.
With multiple bodies lying beneath his feet and blood dripping from his hands, He Juan truly resembled a devil who had crawled his way up from hell. Li Zhi finally knew where that nickname came from, and how it wasn’t mere empty words.
Damn it, this was no longer a feral superior Alpha, but a walking killing machine! Who the fuck had provoked him to this point?!
"C–Captain!" The officers cried out in horror. "Should we shoot him down?!"
"Wait!" Li Zhi hissed sharply. "Don’t be impulsive!"
He intended to assess the situation at first, but his eyes widened in shock when he spotted movement on the skywalk. Running from the adjacent building... it was none other than Mu Yuze!
The others also noticed him. "Fuck, that’s Officer Mu!"
"Captain, Mu Yuze is heading this way!"
Without a second thought, Li Zhi aimed the gun at the ceiling and fired a shot.
BANG! 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
The deafening sound pierced through the chaos in the air. "Police, don’t move!" He bellowed in a loud voice.
