Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 572: The Hunt Begins
The first to rush out were, of course, the regular participants.
Perhaps they might even have the layout of the place memorized, including the best spots to hide until the Alphas were released. For them, the appeal of the attraction was the thrill of being chased and hunted.
Witnessing this scene, the others quickly followed suit, Mu Yuze included. He tried his best to blend into the crowd while moving closer and closer to Kang Guanyu.
Ahead of them, a lavish corridor stretched out, branching into two different directions. The two of them deliberately lagged behind the group, and when the others were too absorbed in deciding where to go, Mu Yuze took the opportunity to whisper to his fellow officer, "Is this a maze? Do you have any idea where we can find XIU?"
"Didn’t you read—" Kang Guanyu began, but he promptly slapped his forehead and grimaced. "That’s right, I almost forgot that you’re dyslexic. The event starts at midnight and lasts for two hours. And yes, this can be considered a mini maze. There are a few rooms scattered around where you can lock in case you feel like your safety is being threatened, and once the two hours is up, the staff will come to escort you out. But no, I don’t know where XIU is. If I did, do you think I would still participate in this absurd event?" He tugged on his pink suit with a disgusted look. "What’s the fun in this primal hunting anyway?"
So he did realize that his outfit was ridiculous, Mu Yuze noted with a tinge of amusement. However, it all faded when Kang Guanyu added,
"Actually, there’s a chance that he might not even be here." He hurriedly raised two hands when Mu Yuze shot him a scathing glare. "Oh come on, don’t give me that look! I’ve mentioned it countless times, XIU’s presence here tonight is nothing but a rumor! A rumor, do you hear me? Of course, there’s a possibility that it’s all a fluke. But it’s worth a shot, right?" He flashed a grin at Mu Yuze, who looked thoroughly unimpressed.
He felt ridiculous now for dressing like this if He Juan wasn’t even here to witness it. "I will take the left, you go right," he made a quick decision. "We will scour through this place first. If we can’t find XIU, let’s leave."
Kang Guanyu agreed readily, "Sure, let’s meet again here ten minutes before two?"
After confirming their plans, they went their separate ways. Alas, Mu Yuze had not taken more than ten steps when Kang Guanyu called out, "Hey!" When Mu Yuze turned to face him, Kang Guanyu winked while making two finger hearts. "Great costume! I didn’t know you have it in you, brother!"
In response, Mu Yuze simply flipped him the middle finger, causing Kang Guanyu to splutter in mock anger.
Mu Yuze shifted his attention to the front and continued walking. About two hundred meters later, he came across a room with its door slightly ajar. Inside stood several Omegas, including Fu Xinyi and Jia Shui.
"...wait until the Alphas get here before we make our move," a female Omega, who had dressed herself in nothing but a bikini and denim shorts, informed the newcomers with a slightly haughty tone. "That’s when the real fun begins. Where’s the thrill in a hunt if there are no predators chasing after us?"
The newcomers looked at her in awe. "T–That makes sense..."
"But..." Fu Xinyi looked as if he wanted to say something, but Jia Shui elbowed him with a look of warning, prompting him to seal his mouth shut.
Mu Yuze tore his gaze away from the scene and resumed his exploration. He had nothing against those who were here to seek a little taste of thrill, or those who wanted to snag wealthy Alphas. But if Fu Xinyi thought that he could win over XIU just by being passive, he was sorely mistaken. It was the hard lesson Mu Yuze had learned in the most painful way. When it came to XIU, one needed to take matters into their own hands.
Furthermore, he was positive that his Gege was not the kind of Alpha who would participate in this ridiculous event to chase after some random Omegas.
Wait for me, Mu Yuze whispered quietly inside his heart. I’m coming for you, Gege.
Mu Yuze soon encountered another fork after three minutes. He mentally mapped his route as he went and when he came across another door, he decided to open it and discovered a bedroom with a king-sized bed and various supplies within. As for what they would be used for, it couldn’t be more apparent. It was the perfect place if a pair decided to have some fun by themselves later.
Without so much as batting his eyelid, Mu Yuze closed the door and continued on his way. However, he abruptly paused when he detected a subtle scent in the air.
It was the unmistakable scent of pheromones, and it did not belong to just one Alpha.
The real hunt had finally begun.
Mu Yuze picked up his pace and utilized his years of experience investigating crime scenes to scour through the area. Alas, it seemed like he was really unlucky today because he ended up bumping into a dead end. Huffing in frustration, he turned around and headed back the way he came.
However, as he retraced his steps, he was met with an unexpected obstacle in the form of an Alpha blocking the hallway.
The Alpha whistled as he took in Mu Yuze’s appearance, a wicked gleam in his eyes. "Yo, look at this little one. I like your style, what’s your name?"
Mu Yuze wasted no time to march forward. A hint of surprise flashed through the Alpha’s eyes, presumably taken aback by Mu Yuze’s boldness, but he was in for a big surprise because the next thing Mu Yuze did was to seize his collar and physically tossed him into the bedroom he had come across earlier.
"W–Wha..." The Alpha gaped in confusion from where he was sprawled on the ground, bewildered by the sudden turn of events.
"Apologies," Mu Yuze said coldly. "I have no time for you."
He slammed the door shut and sprinted away from that place before the Alpha could regain his senses and fly into rage out of sheer mortification. After all, what kind of Alpha would he be if he were so easily dragged around by an Omega? How humiliating!
Sure enough, as Mu Yuze turned into a corner, he heard the Alpha bellow, "Shitty rabbit, you’d better pray that I won’t catch you!"
More doors lining the hallway greeted him. Mu Yuze weighed his choices before opening one door and letting it hang slightly ajar, while he slipped into another one, closed the door tightly and lay in wait. Soon, the Alpha’s footsteps approached, heavy with anger, only to pause when he noticed the partially open door.
"Hehe..." a nasty grin stretched across his lips. "You’re playing hard to get aren’t you, little Omega? Come out here while I’m still talking nicely to you..."
Mu Yuze confirmed that the Alpha had entered his trap, and only then did he turn to inspect the room he was in. It appeared to be a resting area with a long sofa and a table filled with refreshments. And much to his surprise, there was another door on the other side of the room!
Without any delay, Mu Yuze rushed to open it and discovered that it led to another part of the maze. He couldn’t help but applaud the organizers of this event. They really went through such lengths to recreate a realistic and thrilling hunt experience.
Perhaps his luck was not too bad tonight. He really did not want to deal with any Alphas at all, and this new path offered him a chance to throw off the one chasing him right now.
Smiling faintly, Mu Yuze picked up a plate of matcha cake from the table and brought it with him as he passed through the door, moving further into the maze.
