Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 564: Unforgivable...
The video was short, only one and a half minutes, yet Mu Yuze felt like he had gone through an eternity.
A whirlwind of emotions engulfed him, starting from shock to disbelief, then a surge of joy before it eventually settled on confusion. He did not even realize he had stopped breathing through the entirety of the video. It was only when the frame froze on the image of the Prime Minister’s back disappearing into the VIP passage that he let out a long, shaky exhale. He blinked his eyes a few times when they got a little too sore; perhaps he had forgotten to blink too. His whole attention was seized by that familiar side profile that appeared for a second.
He could feel Captain Li Zhi’s gaze on him, observing and scrutinizing, but he brushed it aside in lieu of replaying the video again.
Over and over again, his eyes chased after that one figure like they always had.
He tightened his grip on the phone until his knuckles turned white, his throat constricted. Juan-gege is alive. His Gege is still alive...
Of course, he knew that fact in his mind. After all, He Juan’s image had been caught in the surveillance footage provided by the naval guards.
Nonetheless, he still couldn’t be rest assured because what if something had gone horribly wrong during that escape? He Juan’s health was already not good to begin with; what if his head sustained more damage than it already had when he fell into the sea?
Alas, no matter how desperate he was, Mu Yuze had no way of knowing He Juan’s condition due to the lack of cooperation from Myanmar’s authorities.
And it killed him slowly. To lie wide awake during the darkest hours of the night, imagining one horrible scenario after another where he would end up losing He Juan every single time— it felt like he was dying bit by bit.
How did he manage to endure seven long years without He Juan before? Mu Yuze could no longer remember, given how these past few weeks felt like a slow torture.
It wasn’t until he watched this video, it wasn’t until he saw He Juan well and alive that he felt the string around his neck loosening bit by bit until he could finally take the much-needed air into his lungs again. Swallowing hard, he replayed the video again, this time with half the speed. When the frame caught He Juan’s side profile, he hit pause and gently traced the man’s features with his trembling fingers.
He did not think he would feel satisfied even if he replayed the video a thousand times, but he forced himself to focus on the matter at hand. Creases formed between his brows as he examined the image more closely.
It was a relief that He Juan appeared to be in good health, but... why didn’t he come searching for Mu Yuze? Why hadn’t he contacted Mu Yuze to inform that he was okay, at the very least? It did not sound like the He Juan he knew...
Li Zhi noticed the Omega zooming in on the frame, focusing on He Juan’s face until the image pixelated, and he bit back the urge to sigh. "Mu Yuze, it’s not the time—"
"Something is not right."
"—for you to be enamored... wait, what?" Li Zhi backpedaled once Mu Yuze’s words sank into his mind.
"Look," Mu Yuze pointed at the screen as he shared his analysis. "His complexion looks a little pale, and he’s pressing his lips tightly. He seems extremely annoyed. He Juan – I mean, the Teacher He you know – is the kind of person who will still put a smile on his face no matter how uncomfortable he is, because he will feel bad putting others in a bad spot. But this... this is different. His demeanor and mannerisms have changed."
Li Zhi was rendered utterly speechless. He tried to follow Mu Yuze’s observation of the man on the screen, but he couldn’t seem to see any signs of annoyance or discomfort that Mu Yuze was seeing. Hell, from which eye had Mu Yuze pulled that conclusion from? Sure, this kind of detailed observation was Mu Yuze’s area of expertise, but... why did Li Zhi feel like he had just been stuffed with a mouthful of dog food?!
He cleared his throat and tried to shift his mind back into the professional mode. "So what you’re trying to say is..."
Mu Yuze’s breathing picked up its pace as he stated in an agitated tone. "I suspect that... he might have regained his memories. The man in the video is the real XIU."
It’s just that... he couldn’t tell for certain whether He Juan had regained all of his memories or he had just forgotten the last seven years he lived as ’He Juan’ and woke up as ’XIU’. If it was the latter, then Mu Yuze could understand why the man had not tried to contact him.
On one hand, he was undoubtedly happy that Juan-gege had regained his memories, meaning that he would remember their first meeting ten years ago and all the precious memories they created together, but on the other hand, when he thought of He Juan forgetting their recent reunion, forgetting that he had promised to court Mu Yuze, to cherish and love Mu Yuze, forgetting all the kisses and embraces they had shared with each other...
It was suffocating. Mu Yuze felt like he couldn’t breathe. Why... why did He Juan always leave him behind? Why must he be the only one tormented by the past?
The sweeter those memories, the more painful it was for him to recall them now.
Unforgivable...
Mu Yuze gritted his teeth, a flicker of anger igniting his heart which soon morphed into a blazing inferno. Who said that He Juan was allowed to forget him just like that? They still had a lot of scores to settle, and Mu Yuze did not plan to stop until he got even with the man!
"...So I take it that you’ve known him for more than seven years? Since he was still XIU?"
Blinking, Mu Yuze took a deep breath and tucked the anger deep into his heart where he would let it simmer for now. "Yes," he replied candidly, taking Li Zhi off guard.
He knew that he couldn’t hide his relationship with He Juan any longer. It was already very generous of Li Zhi not to push him for answers during these past few weeks, but he couldn’t delay it anymore. Not after watching He Juan in the video.
If it meant he could capture He Juan with his own hands, if it meant he could catch up to He Juan, he did not mind revealing everything he knew.
"Go ahead and ask, Captain," he continued. "I will do my best to cooperate, and I will even sign a statement that everything I’m about to say is nothing but the truth. In exchange, I have one condition. Please, allow me to be the one to apprehend him."
