Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 560: Inexplicable Urge
Ever since the visit from Ye Qiu, Liang Yuanjun and Han Shan, He Juan felt like he was caught in a surreal dream.
Everything was unreal, and even after a few days had passed, he still couldn’t fully wrap his head around the current situation. After all, who would have imagined that the three of them, who had come from different walks of life with their own distinct views and secondary genders, would come together and join hands just because of one He Juan?
It was not exaggerating to say that he was treated akin to a king during his hospital stay. Every meal he had was light yet exquisite – a menu he was certain did not cordone to the hospital’s regulation. Many doctors and nurses would tend to his needs 24/7, and each time he revealed the slightest hint of discomfort on his face, they would become so anxious that one would think He Juan was their ancestor.
For the first time in his twenty six – wait, no, he was already thirty three. Heavens, he kept letting that fact slip from his mind – years of life, He Juan learned how it felt to be coddled and pampered to the extent where he did not even need to lift a finger because the others fought to do everything for him.
Of course, such a leisure environment stressed him out greatly and after one week of recuperation, He Juan found himself unable to endure it any longer and actively sought a way to escape.
"You want to return to China?" Chen Youzhi paused in the midst of peeling an apple for He Juan, his brow furrowed in disapproval. "Why?"
He Juan would be damned if he were to tell the real reason, so he threw out another excuse which couldn’t be considered a lie in the first place. "We still haven’t found Doctor Jia. I can’t be rest assured knowing that he’s with that bastard Ku Jin."
Chen Youzhi was easily bought by that excuse. After all, it was not only He Juan who had been itching to put the Master Manipulator in his place. Observing the man’s reaction, He Juan added another reason as the icing on the cake, "Also, it’s been so long since I last saw my own country." He put on a rueful smile for good measure. "I know that I’ve been living there for the past seven years, but I can’t remember anything now. Wouldn’t it be nice to return and see if it can jog my memory? Well, if it’s too much of a request, considering how we are all wanted by the police..." he trailed off, letting his crestfallen expression speak for himself.
Lo and behold, Chen Youzhi immediately placed the peeled apple in He Juan’s hand, put the knife aside and stood up. "No," he replied firmly. "It’s not too much. If you want to go back, then we will go back. Please wait for a bit while I go and arrange a few things with Miss Ye."
He Juan bit into the apple with a crunch to hide the pleased smile on his face. "I’d have to trouble you, Chen’er."
If he had a tail, it would have swung back and forth, just like a satisfied wolf that had just devoured a full meal. Alas, Chen Youzhi had already turned toward the door, thus missing the sly smirk on He Juan’s face.
The smile eventually faded from his face as Chen Youzhi stepped out and closed the door behind him. Throwing his gaze out of the window, He Juan released a sigh. He knew that it would not be so easy to arrange their return to China, especially when He Juan’s face and identity had already spread among the national police and placed in the topmost position of the wanted list.
He Juan hated inconveniencing others, but he did it anyway. He had made a special exception just for this one time.
Actually, there was one more reason he did not tell Chen Youzhi. Ever since he woke up, he had been feeling an... indescribable urge, a tugging anxiety and urgency to return to his homeland. It was barely a fleeting thought at first, and He Juan easily brushed it off. But as his recovery progressed, that urge grew stronger and stronger until he could ignore it no more. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Last night, it had kept him awake until dawn because the urge was all too powerful, to the point where he almost ripped off his IV drip and ran out of the hospital right then and there. Fortunately, He Juan had always been good at controlling his instincts, thus he managed to curb the irrational impulse to a bearable level, though he ended up not getting a wink of sleep.
His blood, his Alpha, his heart, every fiber of his being yearned to leave this place and return to... to...
To what?
It was at that moment that his memory failed him, drawing a full stop to the blank canvas of his mind. What could have roused his dormant instincts and influenced him so strongly? What had he experienced in these past seven years? Did the other ’He Juan’, perhaps, have some unresolved business just like he did?
He Juan was not the type to turn a blind eye to his Alpha. And that’s the reason why he had pushed aside his guilt and discomfort to make that request to Chen Youzhi, knowing fully well that the man would agree. His curiosity was officially piqued now. He would like to return and see the life of the other ’He Juan’, rescue Jia Molei from Ku Jin’s dangerous obsession and perhaps... perhaps this time he would allow himself to have a glimpse of Mu Yuze.
He Juan would make himself content just by watching the omega from afar, that’s what he had promised himself.
The preparation ended up taking longer than he’d expected, and it was not until two weeks later that he was discharged from the hospital. By then, He Juan’s wounds had mostly healed courtesy of his excellent recovery abilities.
Early in the morning, he stood in front of the mirror, slid his arms into his shirt sleeves and fastened the buttons. Next, he put on his cufflinks while his eyes intently studied his own reflection. He appeared more mature than the image in his memory – and older obviously. Aside from that, there was little change to his features and the discovery brought a sense of relief to his heart. He had been afraid to look at the mirror and see an old man staring back at him. Fortunately, such a thing did not happen, sparing him from adding a potential heart attack to the long list of implications his body had to suffer through.
He picked up his suit jacket from the couch just as a knock landed on the door and Chen Youzhi poked his head in, asking, "Are you ready, Boss?"
He Juan cast one last look in the mirror, his gaze lingering on the long scar across his forehead. "Mn," he hummed and strode toward the door, his waist length hair fluttering behind him. "Let’s go."
It was time for him to confront his past.
The journey to the airport was smooth sailing. He Juan and the group of men – who insisted on tagging along with him – were then escorted to the VIP passage where they would board a private plane belonging to Liang Yuanjun.
However, what he did not expect to see was Liang Yuanjun herself sitting elegantly inside the plane, accompanied by a dozen people in formal suits who could only be her personal entourage.
"Miss Liang?" He Juan approached her and nodded in acknowledgement. "I didn’t know that you would be coming with us. Is this really okay...?" His gaze shifted to the people on back who, despite focusing on their own tasks, clearly had their attention fixed here.
It came to no surprise, considering how Liang Yuanjun had never associated herself closely with any Alphas in her life. Moreover, He Juan’s appearance was quite striking with his long hair and hideous scar. Dressed in a perfectly tailored navy blue three-piece suit, he exuded a unique charm and intense presence that both attracted and intimidated others. Not to mention, he had a bunch of scary-looking men following behind him.
He Juan did not even need to think to know what kind of scenarios they were concocting inside their minds, and it left him feeling somewhat helpless because... well, they were not exactly wrong in their assumptions.
In response to He Juan’s concern, Liang Yuanjun merely stifled a chuckle and gestured for him to take a seat. "Everything is perfectly fine," she reassured. "They are the people I have personally selected, and their loyalty to me is unquestionable, if that’s what you’re worried about."
He Juan had not even had the chance to exhale in relief yet when the omega added, "Moreover..."
All of a sudden, he had an ominous premonition about this, especially as he caught the gleam of anticipation and resolution in her eyes. "Haven’t I told you that I will not hide anymore? I’m telling the truth, XIU. It’s time for the world to know you."
He Juan’s expression instantly sank. "What... did you just say?"
