Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 552: Please Save Him!
Mu Yuze’s gaze was fixed on the distant sea, his vacant eyes brimming with tears that cascaded down his face like a waterfall.
Now that He Juan’s pheromones no longer lingered in the air, the invisible command over Mu Yuze’s body had also been lifted, and he crumpled to the ground almost immediately like a marionette whose strings were severed.
Disbelief coursed through every fiber of his being. How... how did everything turn out like this? Juan-gege had been right in front of him, only mere meters away, yet all of a sudden...
Within the hollow confines of his mind, the same harrowing scene replayed itself again and again like a curse. The deafening explosion, the massive crimson column that seared into his eyes, He Juan’s body being sent flying like a broken kite before he plummeted— Mu Yuze’s breath hitched on his throat, his blood pumping beside his ears. His trembling fingertips twitched, once, twice, and without a second thought, he scrambled to his feet and strained his numb body to the limit, racing straight towards the sea!
Juan-gege was there. His beloved Gege had fallen into the water! He had to—
"Mu Yuze!"
Strong hands gripped him, forcefully pulling him back just in time before he could dive into the sea without any preparation.
The distant part of Mu Yuze’s mind, where logic still held sway, registered that the ones restraining him were none other than his comrades. But right now, logic and reason were the least important matters in his mind, not when He Juan was involved. These people had stopped him from finding his Gege, and his subconscious mind promptly took them as enemies.
"Let me go!" Mu Yuze screeched and broke free from the grasp of two officers holding his arms, catching them off guard. But before he could take more than three steps toward the sea, they lunged at him again, resolute in their attempts to hold him back. Mu Yuze struggled like mad. "Let go, let go— I TOLD YOU TO LET GO!!"
He punched, kicked and shoved. Alas, his hasty movements could be considered clumsy at most – if Master Song Yin were to see him right now, he’d definitely be disappointed to see all the sparring session go down the drain. Mindless and desperate, stemming from his desperation to reach his Alpha. And it was easy for the other officers to subdue him in such a frenzied state.
"For God’s sake, Mu Yuze. Snap out of it!"
In a flash, Mu Yuze found himself pinned to the ground, his arms twisted painfully behind his back. He struggled with all of his might to no avail, as he couldn’t break free from the other person’s iron grip.
He let out a mournful cry towards the sea, such a heart-wrenching sound that even managed to startle Li Zhi, who was holding him down.
In his mind, Mu Yuze had always been a competent, level-headed and composed officer who could calmly analyze the situation regardless of the peril he was in. But the person on the ground, writhing and screaming, was a far cry from that figure.
This was a side of Mu Yuze no one had ever witnessed before.
And Mu Yuze did not expect anyone to understand him either. They never could. They wouldn’t understand the depth of desperation, his regret and longing for the past seven years, nor could they fathom the extent of his joy and happiness upon finding He Juan once more. He was just like a child deprived of sweets for far too long, and when he finally got that precious treat, he could only cup it timidly in his palms and give it a lick once in a while, afraid that his own greed would consume it too quickly.
His spring had just returned to his life, and he was genuinely, honestly terrified of being thrown back into that abyss of winter again.
It wasn’t until recently that he allowed himself to savor the sweetness, to bask in He Juan’s warm and intoxicating affection, to wake up with a smile on his face knowing that he would find He Juan’s good morning voice note on his phone. It wasn’t until recently that he allowed himself to be happy again, yet all too soon... it threatened to disappear again, right before his eyes.
How could anyone expect him to remain calm in a situation like this? How could he?!
"Captain... Captain, please..." he pleaded, his voice raspy and desperate. He knew that Li Zhi would not release his grip, but he couldn’t suppress the overwhelming fear at the notion of losing He Juan again. Tears poured out of his eyes anew. "Save him, please save him... he has fallen into the sea! Please... we need to find him quickly!"
Surprise flickered in Li Zhi’s eyes as he registered the sheer desperation and panic in Mu Yuze’s voice. It wasn’t like he had forgotten about He Juan, but he had prioritized evacuating everyone to safety first in order to minimize the damage of the explosion.
"Don’t worry," he reassured. "Reinforcements from the naval force are on their way. They will be in charge of finding Mr. He and Wu Yuan, and also tracking down the armed men who appeared here tonight. You need to calm down, Mu Yuze. You can’t go into the ocean in your current state. If you insist, I will have to cuff you by force."
As though proving Li Zhi’s words, beams of light shone in the far distance as the naval vessels traveled across the sea. The walkie-talkie strapped to his waist buzzed to life, delivering the news, "Reporting to the Commander, this is the naval team. We’re in position."
Li Zhi’s stare bore down on him, and Mu Yuze had to resist crying out in frustration. Of course, he would want to join the search and rescue team himself, but he also knew that Li Zhi’s words were true. He had no experience with naval operations, let alone in such pitch-black night that was darker than ink. He would likely be more of a hindrance than help.
It was with that realization that Mu Yuze reluctantly ceased his resistance and allowed himself to fall limply onto the ground, helplessness welling up within him.
Only then did Li Zhi finally deign to release his hold. He let out a heavy sigh and reached for his walkie-talkie, bringing it to his lips. "Begin the search. Our primary targets are an adult male in his thirties with long black hair and a prominent scar across his forehead, and a male teenager with short black hair. Both are Alphas. Over."
"Received, over."
After that brief exchange, Li Zhi turned to ask Mu Yuze, "Can you still carry on? Because I don’t mind telling the paramedics to take you away."
"No," Mu Yuze gritted out as he pushed himself off the ground and wiped away his tears haphazardly. His voice was still shaken yet determined in equal measure. "I... will stay here. Please allow me to stay, Captain."
Li Zhi merely let out a grunt. Somehow, he had seen this answer coming. "Put on your mask properly. If I catch you attempting something reckless again, I will not hesitate to suspend you."
That threat worked wonders on Mu Yuze, as he couldn’t afford to be kept out of the crime scene. It was way better to wait here for the news that might or might not come, rather than being confined in the hospital.
Receiving his listless nod, Li Zhi walked away to continue managing the chaotic scene. "Have all the injured been evacuated?! What? What did you just say about Agent Tak? Damn it!"
Sensing the weight of someone’s gaze upon him, Mu Yuze turned and locked eyes with a pale and slender omega across the area. In an instant, his fists tightened and his body grew taut with wariness. This was the real Boss of Xuanlong... which meant he used to be He Juan’s Boss seven years ago. Did Juan-gege’s accident have something to do with him?
A palpable tension hung in the air, or it could just be a mere figment of Mu Yuze’s imagination because the next second, the omega averted his gaze away as though he had merely offered Mu Yuze a fleeting, dismissive glance. He was then escorted into the police car, both hands cuffed.
Mu Yuze continued to stare until the vehicle started moving, carrying the omega toward the City Bureau.
