Captive Mate BL-Chapter 640: - - -
Rae was a bloodthirsty demon, the Alpha refused to stay down, beating all odds, over and over and over again.
It was enough to convince the petty thugs around him to stick by him without questioning his authority.
He dreamed big, he dreamed enough for all of them. And they were content with that because, as followers, they didn’t need to take responsibility for anything.
He took them from being bottom feeders to being an actual gang in their own right, one that was acknowledged enough to earn them their own territory downtown. However small and inconsequential that was.
It was already far more than they could have ever achieved on their own.
So when Rae suggested they try to work their way up to become affiliated with a Mafia House and potentially become full members of a Mafia House and completely turn their situation around, they agreed in a heartbeat.
All they had to do was listen to the Alpha after all. He made all the plans, arranged all the raids, and singlehandedly led them to victory. It was like being under the protection of a god.
They had no hopes that they would end up affiliated with the monsters that ran Haines, but that was fine. If they continued on this path, they would be comfortable enough for the rest of their lives.
But Rae wasn’t satisfied, he wanted more. And they had become so used to being mindless followers that they didn’t speak up when he said that they would be attacking one of the gangs that reported to a Mafia King.
If they kept doing that, they would certainly catch the attention of a Mafia King, but likely not in the way they wanted, they would more than likely be completely wiped out. And that did happen, retribution arriving very quickly.
"The fuck?" The tatted Beta, Nash, bit out, "The fuck do you mean you’re not leaving the couch?"
Rae looked away again, but this time it was to ignore them, his expression bored as he remained unmoving.
The door slammed open, an even older Beta stood at the doorway with wide eyes and pallid skin. "He knocked," He announced, fear soaking his every word, each syllable trembling.
"Fuck," Nash swore, his vocabulary seemed to consist only of swear words. "We gotta go see him."
"We?" Tony repeated, horrified. "Isn’t Rae..." He trailed off, frightful eyes drifting to the young Alpha who was comfortable on the couch, making no move to leave it.
"Forget about Rae," Nash said grimly, his eyes hateful. "We gotta save our hides first."
With that, he left the room, the scrawny Beta following close behind.
Tony hesitated for a moment, staring at Rae expectantly, hopefully. Like a child asking their mom for food.
When Rae didn’t even acknowledge his presence, he darted out and followed the rest.
Jael had gotten bored of waiting outside for a response, he had even politely knocked, wanting to offer a green branch, but that had been ignored as well.
So he went with the usual, he kicked the door down, making the trio approaching from the hallway freeze up in terror.
Before Jael could say a single word, they all dropped to their knees, apologies spilling out in a jumbled mush as they pleaded for their lives.
Jael frowned, disappointed. This was the very last scenario he had been expecting, a bunch of snivelling cowards.
As his opinion of the ’amateur’ gang dropped, so did their usefulness.
"Start talking," He tossed at them, "It might get me feeling generous."
"It’s all Rae..."
"Yes, Rae."
"Rae’s orders..."
Their response only added to Jael’s confusion, it seemed like all the trio could come up with was ’Rae’.
"Rae planned the whole thing," The gang member in front took the lead, he seemed to be the most capable of the trio.
Jael remembered the gang members who had been carved up, none of the men grovelling on their knees seemed to be responsible for that.
"...he said it would get us to swear loyalty to Mafia King Asher, he said it would get us attention and respect, he said..."
Jael rubbed his ears, the gang member was starting to get tiring. It was all ’Rae’ and ’he said’ with him.
"Get to the fucking point. Where’s your boss?" He demanded, hoping to talk to someone else with a backbone.
He figured that it was this Rae they kept raving about, but his curiosity was completely gone, and he was more inclined to send some men to deal with them after he left, the longer he stuck around.
The gang members shifted nervously, their beady eyes darting from side to side. "He’s uh... He’s out back."
Jael’s pleasantness had completely evaporated, but there was hardly a difference from before, dark sunglasses intimidating, just as much as the holsters strapped to his chest.
He remained silent, waiting to see what the gang members would do next. It was clear their boss didn’t want to see him, but they couldn’t bring themselves to ask him to go with them.
After shuffling their feet a couple times, they turned around in unison and started down the hallway. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Jael went right after them, his steps soundless. The house was a wreck. It was clear that they had tried to clean it up some, but it didn’t help at all, the smell of mold oppressive.
They took a right and then stopped by a partly opened door, pushing it open.
Jael was standing right behind them, so they all got a look into the room at the exact same time.
The bedroom was as much of a mess as the rest of the house, and in a corner, leaning against the broken wardrobe, was a tied-up man.
There were rips in his worn-out clothes, and even through the injuries on his face and his tangled blond hair, it was easy to see that he was conventionally attractive.
Nash was the only one to find his voice, "What the fuck?"
Jael barely paid attention to the expletive, kicking the gang members out of the way just like he had done to the door.
He walked right into the room, and as he got closer, the liquid terror in the bound man’s eyes was more visible. He didn’t like how much it reminded him of Caspian the first time they met.
