Captive Mate BL-Chapter 631: - - -
Lake knew he could leave it all to Rosie, so he relaxed, going over to the dining table to sit down. Unlike the stools, the chairs were padded and had a supporting back rest, the choice was obvious.
He didn’t mind the stools at first but his back had started to ache recently whenever he sat on them, he couldn’t say if it was the uncomfortable kitchen stools, the exercise he had gotten recently, or the baby growing too fast.
Most likely all three.
Rosie did handle everything, she also tagged along with them to Doctor Perez’s office.
The doctor wasn’t at all pleased to see them, reminding them that all they needed to do was call and he would drive down to wherever he was needed - it wasn’t like he was doing much else.
Rosie wore a devious expression as she held on tightly to the report, the only one who had learned the baby’s gender.
Lake just shot her a look from the front seat, knowing that she would be insufferable for the rest of the week but unable to help his smile.
It was late in the afternoon, the windows all wound up because it was cold outside. There was little else to be done so he expected Davian to drive them right home, they would be getting home early tonight.
Instead, his mate pulled into the parking lot of a sprawling mall.
"What are you doing?" Lake asked with concern.
"Taking you shopping," Davian proudly announced, turning off the engine.
Lake gave his mate a onceover, "I don’t trust your opinion on fashion."
He wasn’t going to work the next day so he had already planned to spend the day with Caspian.
Davian deflated, glancing down at his outfit. "I could provide moral support."
Rosie wasn’t paying attention to their conversation, too busy tapping away on her pad as she made some searches about gender reveals.
Not like it would matter much if she was, Lake loved his secretary but her style was far worse than his mate’s.
Lake was a complete pushover for the people he loved, so he was already taking off his seatbelt. "Or maybe we could pick out the baby’s first blanket..."
Davian was already out of the car before he could touch the door’s handle, going around to hold the door open for him.
Lake appreciated the gesture, leaning his weight on his mate as he was helped out. He blew out a breath when he settled on both feet, turning to glance at Rosie who hadn’t bothered to look up.
"Let’s leave her behind," Davian was quick to suggest, opening the back door to toss her the key before returning to his side.
Lake took his mate’s offered arm, starting for the mall. There was quite a number of people going in and out of the exits but it didn’t daunt him, it was easier to blend into crowds anyway.
When they walked deeper in, it was less crowded, the both of them close together even on the escalator.
Finding the clothing section was easy enough and as they headed for an eye-catching kid’s store, Lake looked up at his mate with a smile.
"Remember when we went shopping for the festival?" He brought up, smiling at the memory.
Davian hadn’t been any help picking out outfits but he rather liked playing dress-up with his mate. Davian looked good in everything in his opinion.
Davian held open the door to the store, a crisp bell ringing out when he did. There was soothing jazz playing in the background, pregnant Omegas wandering around.
The first thing they saw when they stepped in was so many toys. There were rows of plushies, educational toys, electronic toys, it was awash in colors and lights.
Lake turned to his mate with a bright expression. "We should come back again after the gender reveal." He said as he made his way to a row of plush toys.
Some were too big to go on the shelves, a massive brown teddy bear made Lake’s eyes sparkle.
"We will," Davian agreed easily.
They should be getting a blanket but he made no move to guide them to where they needed to be, content to watch Lake go on a little tour.
"Maybe we shouldn’t buy too many toys though, I’m worried that Caspian will buy a warehouse worth of toys."
Davian was unfazed, "There’s enough space for them."
Lake reached out to touch the teddy bear and then pulled away before making contact. "You’re not wrong," He led them away with a smile, "But there’ll probably be too many toys for the baby to play with."
Davian parted his lips and then closed them right back. He had been about to suggest that they could always have more babies - which was honestly a terrible suggestion.
He had never considered having kids before but if Lake wanted more children, then they would be having more children.
"The clothing section is over there." Lake pointed out, leading the way.
It wasn’t just clothes and toys the store sold, but baby gear and furniture, things that Lake hadn’t even considered.
There was still some time though, so he wasn’t too worried. And now, he was rich enough to buy everything his baby would ever need in a single day.
He didn’t have to save up, he didn’t have to work extra shifts, he didn’t have to cut costs... his hands trembled slightly when he reached for a soft brown blanket with gold stars on it.
It was neatly packed so he picked it up without reservations, holding it up. "What do you think?"
Davian’s attention was fixed on Lake’s glassy eyes, a slight frown on his face. "It’s pretty, do you like it?"
Lake smiled easily, the sadness that had overwhelmed him dissipating into thin air. "I do," He nodded, hugging the blanket close.
Davian didn’t reach out to take it like he usually would have, letting Lake cling onto the blanket for a while longer.
"Do you want to get more things?" He asked gently.
Lake looked around, reluctant to leave. Except maybe with clothes, gender didn’t really matter with much else but he remembered then that they had left Rosie in the car.
"Next time," He decided, heading for the counter to pay for their purchase.
The cashier was all smiles, undaunted even by Davian’s intimidating presence.
"Baby’s first blanket?" She asked with a smile as she scanned it.
There was admiration in her eyes when she glanced at Davian, very few mates bothered to go shopping for baby items for their Omegas.
"Yes," Lake beamed.
"Great choice!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
In no time, they were on their way out. Rosie was in the car just how they left her, her head still buried in her pad.
