Cannot Bear To Let Go Of My Rich Wife-Chapter 539 - 555: Relentless Confession (6)
Only then did Evelyn Osbert lift her hand, gently pushing open the door, and seeing Mrs. Smith sitting on a single sofa in the study room, with Sebastian Smith and Carla Osbert sitting side by side facing her.
The faces of the three people did not look particularly good.
Evelyn could immediately sense the low-pressure atmosphere. She gently closed the door, walked to the front of the sofa in a disciplined manner, put down the teapot, poured four cups of tea, and handed one of them to Mrs. Smith.
Mrs. Smith didn’t even look at the cup of tea, and just said coldly, "Evelyn, you sit down first."
Evelyn glanced at Sebastian Smith and Carla Osbert subconsciously, and then obediently sat down beside Carla.
There was silence in the study room.
Mrs. Smith didn’t seem to want to talk for a long time.
As time ticked by, the tension in the hearts of Sebastian, Carla, and Evelyn grew.
After a long while, Sebastian cleared his throat and asked, "Mom, why did you call us? Is there something wrong?"
Mrs. Smith still had a cold expression, looking at Sebastian without saying a word.
Sebastian forced a smile and continued, "Mom, what’s going on? If there’s something, just tell us directly. Did I do something wrong? Or is there a problem with the company again... "
"Sebastian, don’t you know why I called you here?" Mrs. Smith suddenly spoke up, interrupting Sebastian’s words, her tone somewhat cold.
Sebastian was stunned for a moment, but eventually smiled at Mrs. Smith: "Mom, I really don’t understand what you’re talking about."
Carla also chimed in, agreeing with her husband: "Yeah, Mom, it seems as if we’ve done something disgraceful."
Evelyn nodded, standing with her parents: "Grandma, you must have misunderstood us."
Listening to the sequential responses of Sebastian’s family, Mrs. Smith sneered coldly with a smile: "Although I am getting old, I haven’t completely lost my judgment. Sebastian, you are my own son. I’ll ask you one more time, what shady things have you done? Admit it yourself!"
Sebastian lowered his eyes, seemingly in deep thought. After a while, he looked up at Mrs. Smith and shook his head: "Mom, really nothing."
"Fine, fine..." Mrs. Smith seemed furious to the extreme, trembling all over. She said "fine" several times, then suddenly stood up, took a CD from her bag, walked to the player near the desk, put the CD in, and soon a rustling sound was followed by Terrence Wood and Joseph Wood’s Wife’s clear voices recounting in detail how the Smith Family approached them to set up Isabel Smith.
As the CD played, the faces of Sebastian Smith, Carla Osbert, and Evelyn Osbert grew increasingly uglier.
After the CD finished playing, the study room fell silent once again.
About a minute later, Sebastian looked up at Mrs. Smith and said, "Mom, this must be a misunderstanding. Isabel is my biological niece. How could I do these things to her? Besides, creating a scandal about Isabel seducing a married woman would humiliate our Smith family. How could I do such a thing?"
"Yes, Mom, this must be a misunderstanding. Moreover, any claims made on the CD are baseless; it could be someone trying to sow discord," said Carla.
"Exactly, Grandma, since Sister Isabel returned from the United States, she has helped the Smith Corporation a lot. We should be grateful to her. Why would we do this to her?" said Evelyn.
