Can We Say No to Divorce?-Chapter 762 - 513: Extra Pampering to the End (1)
Things she likes? What kind of things does she like? Su Tianqing really can’t think of any!
...
At the crime scene.
Song Ziyu had ridden a motorbike, taking Qiao Xiaoyan to the countryside.
Qiao Xiaoyan couldn’t help but tease her: "You’re doing all the men’s work, what’s left for them to do?"
"All a man needs to do is to cherish and love me!" Song Ziyu felt riding a motorbike was pretty cool too! "Look, it’s great to be my man! I don’t need him to make money or provide for me, nor do I need him to take me for a ride, let alone worry about anything on a daily basis."
"What you need isn’t a man; a male nanny would suffice," Qiao Xiaoyan laughed.
Song Ziyu chuckled: "If Professor Gan really doesn’t like me, I might as well get myself a young hottie!"
"That’s a good idea, remember to find one for me too!" Qiao Xiaoyan also chuckled.
Then, Song Ziyu sighed: "Jokes aside, when a murder occurs in the small town, I always feel like I haven’t fulfilled my duty as the Mayor!"
"Don’t be too hard on yourself!" Qiao Xiaoyan comforted her, "You see, in the city, everything is better guarded than in the countryside! Yet murders still happen every day! It’s just that, I’m wondering, will this murder affect the small town?"
This was precisely what Song Ziyu worried about. Her eyes fixed on the road ahead: "The development of the small town can’t be achieved overnight, but human life is of utmost importance. Let’s get to the scene first. You check whether it’s a suicide or a homicide. I’m an amateur in this respect."
"Understood!" The closer Qiao Xiaoyan got to the scene, the more upset she became.
As a forensic pathologist, she was accustomed to seeing dead bodies in all kinds of situations.
Still, compassion for the suffering of others remained a deep emotional tie within her.
At the scene, the deceased’s home was a three-room tile-roofed house, built with mud walls with stones at the base.
The surrounding area was already crowded with onlookers pointing and discussing, and the village chief had ordered people to protect the body, not letting anyone get close or move it.
After the arrival of Song Ziyu and Qiao Xiaoyan, the villagers made way for them.
Qiao Xiaoyan said: "Ziyu, you’ve never seen anything like this before, it’s best if you don’t look!"
"I’m not afraid!" Song Ziyu had never seen a dead body before, but as the Mayor, she couldn’t be afraid!
Qiao Xiaoyan nodded, knowing her to be a strong-willed person.
Upon entering, Qiao Xiaoyan was confronted with an extremely shocking scene: the victim was covered in blood, and their chest had been cut open. The internal organs were scooped out, scattered outside of the abdominal cavity.
Even though she was mentally prepared, and a forensic pathologist at that, Qiao Xiaoyan never expected to see such a gruesome state.
Why would such a brutal murder happen in an insignificant little village?
Song Ziyu felt dizzy and unsteady at her first glance. She nearly fell to the ground.
"Ziyu..." Qiao Xiaoyan worried about her: "Quick, let me help you out to sit down..."
Qiao Xiaoyan then turned back and said: "Village chief, disperse all the villagers. Do not let anyone near and don’t touch anything on the scene."
She supported Song Ziyu out from the scene, to the dirt ridge beside the bamboo grove, where Song Ziyu vomited out all the spicy beef noodles she had eaten for lunch.
She had never known that being in the midst of a murder scene could be so shocking.
On her way here, she had assured Qiao Xiaoyan with confidence that she would be fine.
She had always believed that she had strong mental fortitude, but Qiao Xiaoyan’s reaction made her feel that Qiao Xiaoyan was much stronger than her.
After throwing up, Song Ziyu kept spitting out gastric juices.
"Could you be pregnant?" Qiao Xiaoyan asked her.
Song Ziyu was stunned, she had forgotten to take her birth control pills! But even if she was pregnant, it wouldn’t be this quick!
It’s already been three days, and it’s too late for emergency contraception!
"I’m not pregnant right now," Song Ziyu waved her hands, "I’m fine, Xiaoyan, you go ahead!"
"Okay, you rest for a while, I’ll go to the crime scene to investigate." Qiao Xiaoyan said. As a forensic investigator, the initial crime scene is the most important time to collect evidence.
Song Ziyu didn’t go in, her presence would only distract Qiao Xiaoyan.
After Qiao Xiaoyan entered the scene, even with ample mental preparation, she still felt extremely upset.
What kind of deep hatred could have led to such an incident in this small village?
A short time after she entered, the city bureau also dispatched police and a forensic team.
"I am Qiao Xiaoyan..." Qiao Xiaoyan introduced herself, "I am investigating the scene..."
"I know!" a handsome and young policeman said: "You are the youngest forensic investigator in City A! Miss Qiao, it’s a pleasure to meet you, my name is Bai Ye."
"Officer Bai!" Qiao Xiaoyan, seeing his sharp police uniform, was momentarily stunned, unavoidably reminded of the man she never wanted to think of again, Song Xuyao.
Bai Ye shook hands with her, then said to the forensic team he brought over, "This is Miss Qiao, she’s a very famous forensic investigator from the provincial city. If she’s willing to join our team, solving the case will be just a matter of time."
"I’ll get busy with everyone!" Qiao Xiaoyan said, and then she took some gloves and started to work.
The other members of the forensic team also immediately began gathering evidence.
The footprint investigator looked at the chaotic footprints at the scene: "The footprints are now worthless, almost completely trampled over."
Qiao Xiaoyan nodded: "The first person to discover the murder scene did not protect it, instead drawing more people to come and look."
After photographing the scene with her colleagues, she said, "One of the most notable features is the horrific manner in which the victim died, very similar to the case committed by Jack the Ripper..."
Bai Ye nodded: "Right! But Jack targeted prostitutes..."
The village chief immediately said, "I heard this woman worked as that outside the village..."
Qiao Xiaoyan and Bai Ye exchanged glances. Was it a coincidence? Or was it a deliberate imitation of the most classic murder case?
Bai Ye asked the village chief, "Do you know who Jack is?"
"I don’t know!" the village chief said. As one of the more educated people in the village, how would he have heard of a serial killer case from over a hundred years ago?
"Does anyone in the village know?" Bai Ye quickly asked again.
The village chief shook his head, "The rest of our village is made up of old people and children, many of the elderly are illiterate, and there’s no need to mention the kids! It would be monstrous for a child to commit such a crime!"
Bai Ye looked towards Qiao Xiaoyan, who was carefully examining the body: "Judging by the lividity, the time of death has been between fourteen to sixteen hours, it is now seven o’clock in the evening, meaning it happened between three to five o’clock this morning. Around here, it starts getting light at five in the morning, and people are already up working. Would the killer leave at that time? It’s likely that they left earlier, around three to four o’clock."
Bai Ye wrote down the time, then added, "Concerning this case, we still need to investigate her work outside the village. If she really was a prostitute, we can’t rule out someone imitating the Jack the Ripper case, but Xiaoyan, Jack’s was a serial killing..."
Qiao Xiaoyan nodded, "We can’t be completely sure yet, look at this..."
Qiao Xiaoyan opened up a piece of tablecloth wrapped around the waist of the deceased, a fresh rose was inserted in her private part, and it was a very fresh rose.
Bai Ye, having no girlfriend, had seen many murder scenes, but observing the lower part of the female victim with Qiao Xiaoyan, especially with an about-to-bloom red rose, his face turned red: "This..."
"This wasn’t seen in the Jack cases!" Qiao Xiaoyan said, "Are there any places in the countryside that grow red roses?"
