Chapter 57: Chapter 57 – Training Arc (Rock Fighters’ Chieftain)

In the outer hall... the Rock Fighters’ Chieftain sat panting...

In the first ten rounds, he and his warriors fought together... several swarms of hard-horned lizards. They passed them round after round...

At stage ten they faced a Lizard Commander monster... it was massive, the size of an elephant...

They defeated it after several attempts... the reward was an increase in endurance... for the soldiers...

The Chieftain did not gain any reward... but he was not displeased, instead he was happy...

For him... he was a tactical leader... he led his battalion and directed it toward victory... even all his attributes leaned toward rear command...

But...

At stage eleven... the Chieftain found himself alone in a solo challenge...

He faced an endurance trial... after 5 days... he finally passed it with difficulty...

Only to find the challenge doubled in the next round...

Several more days... he found himself in the following round with a similar trial... until reaching round twenty...

All the trials were endurance trials... like hell to him...

A leader from the Rock race, heavy in movement... required to finish timed challenges...

Even with the solidity of his body... enduring such trials was exhausting...

He wished he could face a monster each round instead of those draining challenges...

At round twenty he received a valuable reward... related to the combat path of the Rock race...

Unlike humans, the Rockmen’s paths are fixed...

The reward the Rock Chieftain obtained... was a solo combat path...

But it was only a path at its beginning... it had to be refined through continuous battle...

When he reached round twenty-one...

He did not enter... instead he returned again to the early rounds. He found that alone he faced the rounds consecutively without his soldiers...

Again it was extremely difficult... it consumed many days but he managed to pass... stage after stage...

And his solo combat path... grew stronger...

At stage ten he did not succeed...

He barely left alive from before the Lizard Commander...

After days... he failed again...

He left the Lizard Commander behind in frustration... and headed toward round twenty-one...

But... fate’s mockery followed him...

He found that stage twenty-one... was the same as stage one...

But the monsters were slightly stronger...

Even so... he passed it on the first attempt...

In the following rounds... the rounds repeated... round 22 corresponded to round 2 and round 23 corresponded to round 3...

They were exactly the same rounds... with increased intensity and difficulty...

After five days... the Rock Chieftain reached round thirty...

Before him... a desert region stretched as far as the eye could see...

Sand dunes covered the land like an earthen sea blowing dust storms through which nothing could be seen...

The Rock Chieftain narrowed his eyes trying to see... the moment he entered he faced the sandstorm problem...

For the Rock race... even though their bodies resembled stone... they hated sand and could never adapt to it...

To place them in snowy environments... was acceptable unlike the desert...

Step after step... the Chieftain’s movement was heavy... and difficult...

He dragged his feet as if dragging a heavy corpse...

He knew exactly where he was heading... the area was not unfamiliar to him...

It was similar to the one where he faced many problems...

Area number 30... was the same as area number 10...

Even the opponent... was the same...

The Chieftain moved...

Toward a group of rocks stacked above one another forming several small peaks...

"There you are..." the Chieftain muttered...

His eyes turned toward one of the peaks...

On top of it... stood a green body the size of an elephant... with two large horns at the front of its triangular head...

After many confrontations against it... the Chieftain knew well... every strength and weakness of the monster...

Despite that... knowledge is not the key to passing... it is only a clear image of the road...

And you must walk it...

The leader advanced with confidence... his steps measured... neither fast nor slow...

Suddenly...

He veered right... while walking...

Near him something fast shot past...

He continued advancing... several steps...

Then again...

He veered right...

Something again shot past him...

He looked upward... the Lizard Commander’s head was without horns...

The leader continued advancing...

He reached the rocks...

He climbed one of them... and became away from the sand’s reach... his eyes never left the Lizard Commander...

The horns began to regrow...

The lizard tilted its head to the right...

And the Rock Chieftain tilted his body to the right as well...

Suddenly...

One horn launched from the lizard’s head...

The horn moved in a spiral...

At great speed... making it appear like a fierce spear...

It passed again near the Chieftain... it did not hit him...

The Chieftain advanced again...

His steps became slower... his eyes narrowed in focus...

Again another horn launched toward him... it did not hit him...

He continued dodging consecutively as if reading his opponent’s attacks...

But he was not...

It was... experience...

Accumulated experience from many confrontations against the same opponent... made the Rock Chieftain memorize its attacks precisely...

In the first confrontation between them... the Rock Chieftain barely left alive...

And if not for the solidity of his body... he would not have survived those injuries that filled his body...

A thick horn half a meter long... launching in a fast spiral... managed to pierce the Rock Chieftain’s body in the first confrontation...

If it had been a human body... it would have pierced through it leaving a hole large enough for a bird to pass...

The worst thing was not the horn that struck you... but its after-effect...

A single scratch... was enough to cause gradual petrification...

The more you moved... the faster the petrification increased...

In the end you would find yourself a solid lump of flesh... waiting for those jaws capable of crushing stone...

The leader advanced again onto another rock...

The distance became closer...

Another horn passed beside him...

"The first act..." the leader whispered... "is nearing its end..."

The horn launches were accelerating... but the horns themselves were becoming smaller... and their regrowth on the lizard’s head became slower...

After many strikes...

"The second act..." the Chieftain’s eyes narrowed and he whispered...

A sharp scream sounded from between the lizard’s jaws... at the center of its head above its eyes...

A single spiral horn grew...

Then...

The lizard finally moved...

Six legs like frog legs... ran consecutively toward the leader...

It jumped from rock to rock...

The Chieftain still advanced...

The distance between them became less than ten meters...

The lizard stopped...

But the Chieftain did not...

He continued advancing indifferently toward one of the large rocks...

A black rock in the center of the rock pile...

Suddenly...

The Lizard Commander jumped...

Toward the sand dunes...

Dust scattered...

The lizard disappeared from sight...

Then...

It appeared from the other side... jumped toward the Chieftain...

Stopped... several meters away...

Then jumped again toward the dunes... and disappeared...

The leader’s eyes remained directed toward the rock... and so did his steps...

While the Lizard Commander kept jumping repeatedly with the same movement...

"6..." the leader whispered...

He moved closer to the rock...

"9..."

He finally reached it...

He jumped... and climbed it...

"10..." he repeated again... "on the tenth feint... the second act ends... the feint..."

The leader’s eyes turned upward suddenly...

From above... the Lizard Commander descended toward him with its weight...

The Chieftain narrowed his eyes...

He raised his mace...

Jumped aside...

BOOOOM...

The lizard crashed into the black rock...

It turned its body... then angled it toward the leader...

The leader’s steps became faster...

Whooosh...

The single horn launched violently toward the leader...

It barely passed beside him...

The leader’s steps accelerated...

Suddenly...

He was before the lizard’s head...

The horn had not regrown yet...

And the forehead was open...

In previous times... and during his seventh confrontation with the same monster in stage ten...

The Rock Chieftain successfully analyzed the lizard’s attacks...

He discovered it had three offensive acts...

The first... launching its two horns one after the other... then after many times...

The horns begin to slow until they disappear and are replaced by one large horn...

At that moment... the second act begins...

The lizard launches violently toward the opponent...

That second offensive act... had two faces...

After more than five confrontations against that second act... the leader finally discovered the solution... 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

In every previous time... the leader would raise his mace and attack...

But it was not a good choice...

Because the monster would then attack with a direct frontal horn strike... the leader was never able to stop it...

After several confrontations...

The leader once was petrified from receiving a horn strike... at that moment...

The monster began the second act...

When it approached the leader... instead of attacking with its horn... it jumped toward the sand dunes...

Then... appeared elsewhere... then...

Approached again...

It did not attack but headed again toward the dunes...

The matter repeated ten times... then...

It appeared above the black rock in the center...

The moment it landed on it... it launched its single horn...

At that moment... the leader could see nothing... the horn completely shattered his right side...

He barely saw what happened after... and lost consciousness...

When he returned again... he confirmed that when you do not attack the lizard... it settles for feinting...

As for the third offensive act... it related to defense...

The leader raised his mace... the lizard’s head was before him...

His steps accelerated...

He passed and ignored the head...

He moved to the back... toward the long tail...

Then...

Whooosh...

A powerful strike...

The lizard’s tail flew away...

The monster writhed in pain...

"The third act..." the leader whispered... "must never begin..."

Then... he stepped back several steps...

He severed the tail again...

Many heavy strikes rained upon the monster...

From right and left and back...

Only the head... was forbidden territory for the leader’s strikes...

The hard way... the leader had learned his lesson before...

Attacking the lizard’s head after the second stage... leads to activating its rage mode...

When that mode activates... all its combat attributes double...

And victory... becomes uncertain...

Finally...

The leader stopped his attack...

Beneath him... the Lizard Commander was dead...
