Chapter 308: Broke through

Five days later, and they both broke through. There wasn’t a blinding light that shot into the sky, or a shockwave that ripped through the room. It was a simple thing—a click that barely resounded through the room.

But Atrox felt it. The quality of the essence around them changed immediately, and the two stiffened, a smile on their faces before they passed out.

Atrox himself was tired, and he opened the door, arranged for the two to be transported to their room in the palace, before he made the trip himself.

Eryndor, who was with him, followed and helped him to the palace, where Atrox simply collapsed on his bed and slept.

".....That is my report, my Lord." The administrative representative had just finished giving a report on what happened during the last five days that Atrox was absent.

And there was nothing. Atrox wouldn’t have found it weird, but he was technically at war, so the lack of action was just as worrisome as if there had been some. Even though, before Atrox went into isolated training with Tiber and Slya, the Akatsuki had publicly declared war on them.

Atrox nodded his head. "Very well. You can have your seat. Valtor, tell me what’s going on in the city."

Valtor shook his head. "Nothing much. The atmosphere is just tense, as if people expect to be attacked at any time. It’s making them weary. To tell you the truth, me and everyone else will be relaxed when they finally attack. They’re just making everyone worry sick about it."

Atrox was feeling the same way. Because what was the Akatsuki trying to do? Make them so worried before they attack? But Atrox wasn’t going to wait.

"We are already at war. Just because we have not seen any attack doesn’t mean we aren’t getting attacked. Be careful about who you let into my city. In fact, lock the city down."

Valtor bowed. Then he hesitated. "My Lord, why did you call this meeting?"

Atrox raised his hand and brought out a small blue disc. "The new force that I created, the Bind Sky. This will be the symbol of their captain—the one who will lead them."

Everyone stiffened. They’d heard and somewhat seen the power of the new forces. That kind of power isn’t easily given.

Atrox’s eyes swept the gathering, and he said firmly, "Slya will be the Captain. You will all stand as witness."

Two weeks later, and the Akatsuki still hadn’t done anything. This made Atrox angry, and it must be what they intended because Atrox finally made his move.

"My Lord, are you sure about this?" Eryndor asked. They were standing atop a flying ship, the two on the deck in the evening, staring at the setting sun.

Atrox’s eyes narrowed. "The Akatsuki are playing with us psychologically. They’re messing with us, and I don’t like it. Oh, they will eventually attack, but only after we wear ourselves down with worry."

"I need to provoke them. If the war is going to start, then it should!"

Eryndor’s eye twitched. "My Lord, I’m talking about the Bind Sky. Why use them in this one? Sending them into the desert... I feel that’s not the way to use them."

Atrox smiled. "How do you wish they were getting used?"

"They are better in the Capital as your shield. Why send them into the Akatsuki Desert? It’s very dangerous."

"That’s exactly why I’m sending them. I want them to experience danger. But worry not. I have trust in their ability to cause trouble. You’ll see."

Around the ship that Atrox was standing on were two more flying ships. And they carried the Bind Sky.

Atrox watched the ships, his face smooth and emotionless. Slya was atop one of those ships, and she could die—all because Atrox sent her on a mission.

It was a realization he had come to accept. After all, he couldn’t hold them by his side all the time. He needed to let them fly.

The wall that was destroyed—the portion had been repaired. And the wall was manned by hundreds of knights. When Atrox’s ship came close to the army base, hundreds of gleaming weapons raised in salute, and he shot an exploding fireball into the air in return.

It was his official visit to the Eastern army base.

Pomora, Takoda, and Commander Petel came to receive him, and they took him to a platform where Atrox gave a quick speech to the army.

He didn’t sugarcoat the war. They were warriors and not strangers to what war meant. What he did was remind them of what they were fighting for—and that he would be fighting with them as well.

After that, there was a small meeting.

"We have seen no moves. Worse still, we don’t have any information about them. What size their armies are and their strengths. We don’t even know the number of Master Knights they have," Commander Petel said. "My Lord, this is totally not in our favor."

Atrox nodded and pointed to Slya. "This is Captain Slya of the Bind Sky. She will be going into Akatsuki territory with her men. It will be a short mission. What we will be getting is information about the enemy. Whatever information that can be provided."

"According to Young Master Svenjar, we can’t find their Capital, but that’s good. I’m not after their capital. They want war? Then their army will leave the said capital and come here. I want to know the size of the army coming here."

Commander Petel hesitated. Her eyes flickered to Slya, who sat casually on her seat. Slya didn’t have the rigidity that all the military personnel seemed to have.

"My Lord, the Bind Sky is just a hundred men strong. Why not send Master Knights? At least two?"

"Because of the same reason I’m sending the Bind Sky. The Master Knights are too precious to send on a spy mission. We don’t know our enemies well enough to send the Master Knights."
