Broken Oath: I Left, He Regretted-Chapter 171: Serena Wants to See Sharon
Timothy Xavier was silent for two seconds, his tone still indifferent, but without a hint of blame, he simply said, "If she likes it, let her buy it. Don’t bother me with such trivial things."
After saying that, he directly hung up the phone.
Serena Sawyer held the phone, her face completely turned ashen, like a deflated balloon.
Just then, Jenna Sutton arrived.
She knew my home’s password and pushed the door open directly.
The moment she walked in, she froze, thinking she might have entered the wrong place.
Seeing the living room crowded with shop assistants, scattered dress dust bags, and jewelry trays laid on the coffee table, her pupils noticeably shrank, and she subconsciously uttered, "Wow," in surprise. "Did you move a haute couture store home?"
The moment those words fell, Jenna Sutton’s gaze collided with the cold glare Serena Sawyer shot over.
Serena Sawyer was obviously still reeling from the embarrassment just moments ago.
Seeing Jenna Sutton come in, her expression darkened even more.
Jenna Sutton immediately frowned, almost rolling up her sleeves as if ready for action.
Quick-eyed and quick-handed, I stepped forward and grabbed her wrist, gently pinching the back of her hand with my fingertips.
Jenna Sutton exchanged a glance with me and only then calmed down.
I deliberately said to her, "Timothy Xavier is being extremely generous for this wedding, I’ll take all the jewelry and clothes. If you find anything you like, feel free to choose."
The moment the words fell, Jenna Sutton instantly understood.
She followed my gaze to the pigeon-blood ruby set and said, "This ruby suits me, and this diamond bracelet would go perfectly with my new watch."
Beside us, Serena Sawyer’s lips pressed into a straight line, her face turning from white to green.
She now had no career and had to ask Timothy Xavier for her monthly expenses, so she probably hadn’t splurged like this in a long time.
Seeing the mockery in my smile, Serena Sawyer suddenly spoke, "No way! These were bought for you by Timothy, no one else can take them away!"
I replied with a sarcastic smile, "He gave them to me, so they’re mine. I can give them to whomever I want! Otherwise, Miss Sawyer, you could beg me, and maybe, just maybe, I might let you choose some sets too!"
Seeing the venom in her eyes, I grinned and said, "Or else, you could give your Timothy another call and ask."
Serena Sawyer almost died of anger, having just been snapped at by Timothy Xavier over the phone, now dared not to call again.
"Since Miss Sawyer isn’t calling, as Mrs. Xavier, I’ll decide what to do with these jewels and dresses."
I casually selected two sets of dresses and jewelry, then said to Jenna Sutton, "The rest, take them to the second-hand luxury recycling store this afternoon, and donate all the money."
After that, I looked up at Serena Sawyer and deliberately said, "Oh, and when it’s donated, be sure to say it was donated by President Xavier. Sharing joy is better than enjoying alone, President Xavier has plenty of money, surely would love to do such a good deed."
Serena Sawyer clutched her fingers tightly, glaring at me and Jenna Sutton, her eyes full of resentment and anger.
In the end, she left my house in a fury, slamming the door so hard it made the paintings at the entrance shake.
Jenna Sutton spat lightly at the tightly closed door, saying, "Serves her right!"
And I asked those shop assistants to leave the items behind and go.
After they left, Jenna Sutton started asking, "Are you really planning to agree with Timothy Xavier after picking out all these jewels and dresses? If so, what about Julian Sinclair?"
I told her what Julian Sinclair had advised me.
"He wants you to comply with Timothy Xavier? To agree with him?" Jenna Sutton looked confused, "That’s not right, Attorney Sinclair’s character isn’t one to easily accept defeat, could he be hiding some backup plan he hasn’t revealed?"
I shook my head and said, "He didn’t elaborate, but I’m willing to believe in him."
Jenna Sutton suddenly clapped her thigh, her eyes lighting up with excitement: "Oh! I got it! He’s planning to crash your wedding with Timothy Xavier, or perhaps stop it! Imagine Julian Sinclair in a white suit, bursting in to grab your hand, taking you away in front of everyone. Oh my, that would be so romantic!"
I speechlessly twitched the corner of my lips and said, "Have you been reading too many romance novels? Timothy Xavier and I haven’t even held a divorce ceremony; Julian Sinclair wouldn’t do something so impulsive."
Jenna Sutton’s excitement instantly faded, replaced by full-on frustration.
She sighed heavily while eyeing me: "I really can’t figure out what other options Julian Sinclair might have?"
Thinking of the worst-case scenario, the warmth in my eyes completely vanished, and I said word by word: "If Timothy Xavier insists on trudging down a dead-end, then I’ll accompany him down to the very mud! At least this way, both Madam Sinclair and Julian Sinclair can be cleared of any blame. Especially Madam Sinclair, she’s been so good to me, I just want her to enjoy her later years peacefully."
The living room air was thick with Jenna Sutton’s indignation on my behalf, when suddenly the doorbell rang.
My first reaction was Serena Sawyer had returned for a second round.
Most likely, she hadn’t gotten over being snubbed just now and found another excuse to come back and pester me.
Jenna Sutton moved faster than me, rolling up her sleeves heading for the door, already prepared for battle.
But as soon as she opened the door, she swallowed back her words and softened her tone: "Uncle, Aunt?"
When I looked up, sure enough, standing at the door were my parents, their faces gloomier than the next.
I hurried over to them asking, "Mom, Dad, why are you here? Why didn’t you call in advance?"
Mrs. Ellison didn’t respond immediately, instead, she briskly walked in, speaking with deep concern: "You need to come clean with us, what exactly are you planning with Timothy Xavier? Every day the news is filled with gossip about you two reconciling, I can’t tell what’s true anymore! I keep hoping you wouldn’t act so foolishly, but why do these rumors keep gaining traction?"
Mr. Ellison followed behind, his face tense as if covered in frost.
He let out a heavy sigh, his voice low and weighty: "Zoe, if Timothy Xavier is forcing you, you need to tell us. I refuse to believe such outrageous things like forced marriages still happen in this day and age!"
"Uncle and Auntie are absolutely right!" Jenna Sutton quickly chimed in, agreeing, "Zoe’s just too soft-hearted; Timothy Xavier caught her off guard, otherwise she’d have cleared things up with him ages ago!"
A tightness gripped my heart, and just as I intended to stop her, she had already laid out all the reasons for my entanglement with Timothy Xavier.
For The Sinclair Family, to prevent Julian Sinclair from being smeared by Timothy Xavier, and temporarily not dare to tear things apart.
Mrs. Ellison heard it all, her brows furrowing deeper.
Like an ant on a hot tin roof, she anxiously said, "Zoe, listen to your mother, break it off with Julian Sinclair! As long as you sever ties with The Sinclair Family, Timothy Xavier’s threats will have no leverage! How long have you known the Sinclairs? For them, are you really willing to fall back into Timothy Xavier’s den? Trust me, break all ties with them, and with Timothy Xavier! If he won’t divorce, you’ll move back home. After a year of separation, it’ll automatically be over. Let both families feud if they wish, but face it, it’s none of our business!"
"Foolish!" Mr. Ellison suddenly shouted, his tone full of dissatisfaction, "Is this how you teach children? Declan is now acting irresponsibly, just giving up like that, it’s all because you spoiled him!"
"Where did I go wrong?" Mrs. Ellison’s eyes immediately reddened, she turned to argue with Mr. Ellison, "Ever since Zoe married Timothy Xavier, has there been a single peaceful day? She’s finally come to her senses wanting to escape from misery, and now, all of a sudden, Julian Sinclair appears, why should our daughter get hit with all the hardships?"
"That’s what women think!" Mr. Ellison said in a deep voice, "You want Zoe to sever ties with The Sinclair Family, but have you forgotten how much they’ve helped her? Madam Sinclair, Julian Sinclair, and his second uncle. When Zoe’s mom left back then, Julian Sinclair and Madam Sinclair rushed over to help without a word, tirelessly handling everything!"
"And last time Zoe was kidnapped and sold to Burona, it was thanks to Attorney Sinclair that she was rescued!" Jenna Sutton quietly added beside me, then realized she’d spoken too quickly and secretly glanced at me.
My heart sank, and I hurriedly gave her a signal, but it was already too late.
Mrs. Ellison and Mr. Ellison’s attention instantly focused on Jenna Sutton’s words, Mrs. Ellison’s face turned pale immediately, she quickly asked, "What did you say? Zoe was kidnapped? Even sold to Burona? When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell us anything about it?"
Mr. Ellison’s face grew even darker, looking at me, he said, "Do you still consider us your parents? Such a major issue, and you kept it from us? Facing such a big danger, not mentioning a word?"
I quickly explained, "By then, I had already been rescued, safe and sound, and didn’t want to make you worry anymore. Besides, this matter happened quite some time ago, it’s all been handled."
Jenna Sutton quickly added, "Yes, yes, yes, it was dangerous but fortunate, really thanks to Attorney Sinclair, otherwise..."
Mr. Ellison and Mrs. Ellison didn’t respond, their expressions still looked unpleasant with lingering silence.
After a while, Mr. Ellison slowly spoke, his tone full of concern, "So, your plan is to spend your later years entangled with Timothy Xavier?"
I looked at their furrowed brows, smiled gently, and said confidently, "Of course not. This is just a temporary solution."
Jenna Sutton quickly helped to reassure them, "Zoe just mentioned that Attorney Sinclair already has a plan, definitely won’t let Timothy Xavier conduct this wedding! Uncle, Aunt, rest assured!"
Mrs. Ellison and Mr. Ellison exchanged a glance, the worry on their faces hardly dissipated, obviously still skeptical.
Especially Mrs. Ellison, she sighed with reddened eyes, and spoke with helplessness, "How can I be reassured? Both of my children don’t bring peace! My son refuses to marry or be in a relationship, and my daughter marries the wrong person!"
At noon, The Ellison parents and Jenna Sutton had lunch at my house, staying until when the kids were about to finish school. Only then did they leave knowing I had to pick up the kids.
I rubbed my aching temples, picked up my car keys and the pick-up card, heading toward the door. Just after changing my shoes, I received a call from Timothy Xavier.
He immediately suggested he personally wants to pick up his daughter tonight.
I questioned cautiously, "Timothy Xavier, what do you want?"
My first thought was that Serena Sawyer had gone back to report.
After all, it had cost him a sum of money this morning, and now being down on his luck, perhaps he’s here to fret over money or cause trouble.
The voice on the phone was cool and detached, with a tone of entitlement, "I haven’t personally picked up my daughter in a long time, I’ll take Doris out to dinner and then bring her back to you."
He paused for a moment, his tone growing somewhat impatient, "We’re about to have a wedding soon, I don’t want anything to happen at this time, you don’t need to guard me like I’m a thief."
Even with what he said, I didn’t feel at ease at all.
So, I grabbed my bag and quickly went downstairs, drove to the kindergarten.
When I arrived, Timothy Xavier’s car was already parked at the entrance.
As he saw me coming, he glanced down at me, said, "Zoe Ellison, you really don’t trust me?"
I gave him no look, only saying, "With the mess you’ve made, is it worth trusting?"
Timothy Xavier snorted coldly, deliberately asked, "Are you satisfied with the jewelry and wedding dress you picked today?"
I said with a half smile, "I just picked casually, just like our marriage, casual. What? President Xavier is feeling distressed about me choosing too much? You did say I could choose anything."
Timothy Xavier was so angry he laughed instead, saying word by word, "As long as you like, you can buy out the entire mall. But even if the position of Xavier Group’s president is lost, Xavier Group’s shares still largely remain in my hands. Ethan Xavier can’t stir up any waves! The wedding is set to be in a week, you better prepare."
At this point, his tone turned gloomy and cold, "Rest assured, I’ll certainly give you an unforgettable wedding."
At this moment, Doris and Sharon came out of the campus hand in hand.
Timothy Xavier stepped forward towards them first.
Seeing his daughter, he crouched down, a smile on his face like the spring breeze, "Doris, look at what this is?"
After saying so, he handed a shopping bag to Doris.
Doris peeked inside, surprisingly, it was a latest version blind box.
She gleefully looked at her dad, not noticing me nearby.
Timothy Xavier smiled, holding his daughter’s hand, saying, "Would you like to have dinner with Daddy tonight, okay?"
Doris hesitated for a while and said, "But... what about Mom?"
Timothy Xavier patiently said to his daughter, "After we eat, Daddy will take you back."
Doris held Sharon’s hand and said, "Can Sharon come along too?"
Seeing the situation, I immediately walked over.
Only then did the two children see me, stopping in their tracks.
Doris instinctively let go of Timothy Xavier’s hand, moved closer to me, and Sharon also timidly looked at me, evidently afraid to get in Timothy Xavier’s car.
Timothy Xavier’s face sank, coldly said, "I’m Doris’s father, what’s wrong with taking her home for a meal? My mom misses her, and so do I."
He gave me a glance, his tone harder, "Zoe Ellison, not to mention we’re about to hold a wedding. Even if we divorce, as a father, I have the right to see my daughter, don’t I?"
He purposely said these things in front of Doris, wanting her to think he was the weaker party in the marriage, as if I was preventing him from seeing our daughter.
I didn’t want the children’s childhood to be filled with parental arguments, so I held back my anger and said, "Doris can go with you, but she must come back right after dinner."
Saying so, I pulled Sharon behind me, coldly said, "But Sharon has nothing to do with you, she cannot go."
Thinking of the involvement of Serena Sawyer and Mrs. Hawthorne, it made me nervous.
Timothy Xavier frowned and said, "Last time during New Year’s, Serena reflected that she shouldn’t have argued with a kid. She knew I was coming to pick up the child today and specifically invited Sharon to join, making a table of dishes the kids love."
