Chapter 44: Fate Gate (1)

After clearing the dungeon, Levian and Diana headed back home, ate a meal, and slept. They were completely drained.

The next morning, they both woke up early with different plans for the day.

"I’ll be with Archmage Supreme Jyselle until evening. Do you know how long you’ll be with King Gaëlf?" Diana asked Levian, as she brushed her hair.

Levian put on a freshly washed black suit and contemplated wearing his red cape. It looked elegant, but caught too much attention.

"No idea." He said, deciding against the cape. "He needs to tell me how to break through to platinum. I’ve got no clue about the process, so it might take longer than I expect."

Diana finished getting ready and nodded her head, before heading over to Levian and kissing him on the cheek.

After their kiss yesterday, such exchanges felt almost natural.

"Well, don’t pull far ahead of me. I’ll be right behind you." She said with a wink.

Levian smirked. "I don’t doubt it. With how fast you’re progressing, you might even surpass me."

"The True Elf himself? Haha, I don’t think so."

Afterwards, the two said their goodbyes and headed towards their respective locations.

As Levian headed to King Gaëlf’s room, he wondered something to himself.

We’ve been engaged for a while now, but will we ever get officially married? After all, it only happened because our parents wanted to connect our two families.

He brushed the thought to the side for the time being, as he was allowed into King Gaëlf’s room.

---

To no surprise, Levian found the man naked; however, he was not alone.

King Gaëlf was sitting on the grass of the garden at the centre of the giant hall. Standing across the garden was a Knight that Levian had never seen before.

He was a tall elf with smooth, onyx black skin and a bald head. He stood at a staggering height, and his muscles were evident, even through his heavy, black armour. Draped over his shoulder was a red cape similar to Levian’s.

The man had his gauntletted hand held out, with a bird perched atop it.

At Levian’s entrance, King Gaëlf’s eyes lit up in surprise. "If it isn’t the truth elf!" He called.

Levian made his way over and bowed his head to the king. The knight hardly turned his attention from the bird.

"Ah, I see you’ve never met this man before; otherwise, you would have shown him his deserved respect." The King noticed. "That, is Lord Commander of the elven army, Icarus."

Icarus turned his head slightly and glanced at the elf before him. Levian cursed in his head and swiftly bowed his head to the knight.

That is the Lord Commander. One of the strongest men of the nation. The man whose son I duelled not long ago...

A bead of sweat formed on his head. He hoped it wouldn’t fall.

"Apologies my Lord, I had no clue."

"Hardly a problem." Icarus’ thick voice boomed, startling the bird, making it fly away.

Levian gulped, and the King laughed.

"Icarus is here for safety measures. After all, it’s time for you to break through to platinum. There is still a long way for you to go before the battle for peace, but this is where your progression truly begins."

"Safety measures?" Levian repeated.

Is breaking through to platinum really that dangerous?

Lord Commander Icarus stepped in. It seemed that he was more well-versed in the matter.

"Not for your safety, but rather the king’s. It is better for me to open the Fate Gate than for the Great Gaëlf himself to take the risk."

King Gaëlf smiled, waving off the title.

Nothing was making sense to Levian. He had never heard of a "Fate Gate" in his life. However, after expressing his confusion to the two men, he was finally given to answer.

As well as the method for breaking through to Platinum.

---

"Dungeons are believed to be made by a malevolent being whose goal is to see the destruction of Malo. However, this being is only able to create portals equal to rank platinum. Rather than being a large threat, we have used these dungeons as ways to train our awakened and power our systems."

"However, once reaching high gold, breaking through to platinum can not be done through mere combat or dungeons. Instead, you must enter what is called a Fate Gate."

"Fate Gates are unique portals, found using the platinum power TRUTH, though with much more danger. Once one person has entered, the Fate Gate will close until it has been completed."

"The Fate Gate takes the one who enters into a random historical event with nothing but their identities and their system. The event will play out as it did in history; however, your mission is to alter history and prevent the main event from happening."

"If you fail to prevent the event, then you will be trapped in the world forever. The portal will cease, and your existence will be wiped away from Malo. If you pass, then you will be returned to your rightful home."

"This is what is called the Fate Gates. The method to the platinum breakthrough."

---

Levian stood there with a puzzled mind. The main question he had was, how had such an insane phenomenon been hidden from him?

The Fate Gates sounded crazier than anything he could imagine. He could be placed in a war between ancient dragons, or trapped underwater with the Drowners.

No matter what, he only sensed risk and danger. Yet, his mind was filled with excitement.

What sort of knowledge could he obtain from such a mission? How powerful could he get within the Fate Gate?

King Gaëlf looked at Levian with a questioning eye. "So, is this what you want to do? You will be away for some time."

It took only a few moments of consideration for Levian to answer. After all, he needed to do this.

To fight in the battle for peace, and to make a real difference in this world of war.

He nodded his head resolutely. "As long as you tell Diana that I am away, training."

"Oh, do not worry about Diana. Archmage Supreme Jyselle will keep her busy... very busy."

Afterwards, the King nodded to Lord Commander Icarus, and the man closed his eyes. As always when using TRUTH, a golden aura began to form around him.

Levian watched as Icarus remained there unmoving. Whatever TRUTH was, it was making the man sweat profusely just to use it.

King Gaëlf seemed to watch the man with an intense look, as if ready to get involved if something went wrong.

His body shook, and the aura grew thicker with every passing second.

After ten minutes, Lord Commander Icarus finally opened his eyes. The golden aura began to gather around his hands.

Then, using mighty strength, he thrust his hands forward, seemingly reaching into existence itself. He pulled his hands apart, and a tear opened into space.

However, unlike the other portals, which were oval-shaped and black. This portal resembled a jagged crack, and on the other side was a sight of a thousand swirling colours.

Icarus took in deep breaths as the golden aura began to fade. Afterwards, he and King Gaëlf both looked at Levian with a stern gaze.

"I’ve done my part." The commander said through heavy breaths. "It’s time to do yours."

Author here ~ After writing this Chapter, I was made away that this concept is similar to something in Shadow Slave. I haven’t read the novel, so can someone tell me if this is TOO similar or not?

Thanks, and happy reading!
