Bro, I'm not an Undead!-Chapter 1441 : The One Who Knocks
"What the hell?" Kenno was the first to speak up when he suddenly found himself standing on the shore of Opungale.
But his curiosity was pressed down by a fierce torrent of stark red glows that blasted upward in a menacing pillar from the distance, stabbing into the clouds.
He gritted his teeth and struggled to remain on his feet. Some atrocious power from that pillar was trying to usurp his senses, compelling his body and soul. It was most certainly Divine, but it outclassed what he remembered of the Doom Knight by several leagues.
His Stark Constellation sparked vibrantly right then. It resisted the compulsion from the pillar effectively.
The same was true for Kintar, who was floating beside him. She looked on at the towering mass as her Stark Constellation sputtered and flashed violently, resisting any adverse coercive effect against its host.
Weaver, Red Rage, and Araeyn had coated themselves in Null Life Essence to shield themselves, while Elita and Uyuniya were decked in Voided Death Essence. The latter two did their best to shield Embrell and the King as well.
The royal duo was immensely confused. Terror was filling their eyes.
"What is going on? What is that?" Embrell, pale-faced cried, looking at the towering beam of energy.
But all the Apostles knew, as did the Unlimited Stars, even though to a lesser degree.
Kenno gritted his teeth.
'As I thought. Something seriously messed up is going on with the boss!'
Elita looked especially bewildered. Aside from the Apostles, it could be said she was the one who understood Skullius' situation best. But even she hadn't expected this to happen. Why now? And why so potently?
"It was this serious, huh?" she said and garnered a look from Uyuniya. The alien might have been asking the same question with her eyes.
"That presence… It's nothing like I've ever known from Undead creatures," she said to Elita.
"Yeah. That's because this is a—"
"PRAY TELL!" A voice boomed from the distance, echoing like a living horror everywhere.
The different continents in the world must have heard it. It coursed through the oceans, greedy and vile. It might have been Skullius' voice, if only a few leagues hoarse and wicked.
"JUST WHAT DID YOU EXPECT WOULD HAPPEN THE LONGER TIME FLEW BY? MY MADNESS OF A SHREWD DESIGN WAS EVENTUALLY GOING TO CATCH UP!"
The words didn't seem to be directed to anyone on Opungale, however far they traveled.
The speaker was obvious though.
"OH, LOOK HOW YOU'VE GROWN, SKULLIUS! SPLENDID POWERS FILL YOU! DIVINE POWERS! I TOLD YOU TO PUT THEM TO USE UNDER MY SERVICE, BUT YOU WOULD NOT YIELD THEN. I DECIDED TO FAVOUR YOU ABOVE ALL MY CREATIONS, AND YOU STILL REJECTED ME, BUT LOOK AT ME NOW! I AM DANCING IN YOUR NEW FLESH ALL THE SAME, AND I SHALL CONTINUE TO!"

There was glee in that voice - sinister glee. It was different from the wild, reckless and charming glee that Fulgardt had, however similar. It was archaic, patient, and sadistic to an almost abstract degree.
"We have to go back," Elita said as she manifested Broodweiler. Uyuniya nodded, frowning. "The rest of you might want to stay put. Facing off against a Lich is way different from facing off against a Deity subdued with Undeath." She was stern while facing the Apostles, Sila, and the two Unlimited Stars.
"Don't underestimate us. Master has been preparing us against this very enemy. It's about time we see it for ourselves. A little teaser," Kintar said, but without the least bit of mirth that she usually had.
"Yeah. This is what we fought thousands of ourselves in preparation for. And that's exactly why this brand the boss gave us is reacting like this," Kenno said, pointing at his Stark Constellation.
Red Rage also stepped forward.
"Need I say anything in my defence, my lady?" he said gracefully, looking at Elita.
"He may still need all of us, even if we aren't strong enough to beat the Lich. The tomato flinger has the resolve to fight always. Believe me, I know it better than you all. He needs to be reminded that there are those standing with him in this fight," said Sila sternly.
The former Paladin Champion looked conflicted. She didn't want to sound rude or dismissive of everyone's reasons and faith – she wouldn't dream of it – but at the same time, she knew better than anyone else here, even Uyuniya, just how bad things could get when a Lich was involved.
And here, there was a High Lich. She had seen what things like that could do in real-time during her tutelage under Void.
"No need to be so tense. This is but a trifle. Come."
It was Eternity's Weaver who spoke. The oddity marched on with his staff in hand, confidently, disregarding everything and everyone else. He garnered strange looks.
Did he not understand what was going on?
This wasn't something that could be solved by his special racial qualities.
It didn't matter if he was Nulliergrapher. Or did it?
Even the other Apostles frowned at Weaver. They thought him reckless.
The Nulliergrapher warped away once he reached the line of trees past the shore.
Elita cursed. She and Uyuniya followed after him. Kintar flew up with Kenno and Sila in tow.
Araeyn remained. To his credit, he noted that the confused royal duo required protecting after Elita and Uyuniya rushed towards Skullius. He protected them with Null Life Essence, and told them to stay put.
He was watching what was happening yonder though. His master's greatest enemy had taken advantage of him again. It had been a long time since that had happened.
Araeyn could see the group return to Gauurdfell, or whatever remained of it.
Deep within the raging flames, no, the flaring manifestation of Undeath energy that none could approach unless they had Null Life Essence, Amras, or Voided Death Essence, Skullius stood, all four arms spread wide from his nimbus.
Null Life Essence was firing freely from him.
Undeath essence was exploding from him wildly.
Even his eyes were flaring with Undeath, but the skin and flesh around them was being scorched.
The Hybrid Warmoth had on a wide grin. He was standing opposite Serenity, who had jutted out of his body the instant Doom Factor 2 had struck.
The curse had emerged with a vengeance, a violence she had not seen coming.
But why?
Was it because Skullius had enjoyed half an hour's worth of complete immunity from any potential interruptions from the Doom Factor while he was in the Null Verse?
It might have been so, Serenity suspected.
She could see scorching hot mercury gathering at the Hybrid Warmoth's feet. Beyrmir was trying his damnedest to draw Skullius back, but it wasn't going to be so easy this time around.
As the group of Apostles, Void users, and Unlimited Stars appeared, the Hybrid Warmoth graced it with a short glance before staring back at Serenity.
"You recall, don't you? The last time we were facing each other like this. You were so sure your hold over Skullius was stronger than mine. But I suppose we finally see the truth. There were holes in your plan. You gave the rights of your power to my puppet, and now they are all mine! Haha. He will resist, to be sure, but how long remains until he fully succumbs to losing his soul?"
Serenity did not respond immediately. She too glanced at the arrivals. She was glad Weaver was among them.
"He still has time," she said.
"No, he does not," cried Somanda. "I am here to stay. Believe it. Even if I have to be a nagging, nosy neighbor who bangs on the door every day until he is allowed in for good."
