Chapter 26: The Mighty Cheetah’s heart

Ming Tao felt his heart race while she rested on his chest. This demon that he hated so much was causing his body to react in a way it had never done before. And she risked her life to save someone else. That had never happened before.

In fact, it was so rare that he would’ve denied this and called someone a liar if this incident was not witnessed with his own eyes.

"Your heart is racing. Why? Are you nervous?" Mira’s words took him out of his thoughts. He sneered. Looking down to face her.

"I am repulsed having wet fur clothing and you touching me." Ming Tao said, his voice curt. Mira swallowed. Every time she was with this man, he reminded her that he detested her so much.

"I can walk. You don’t have to carry me." She said.

No. For some weird reason he did not want her to leave yet he also did. "Suit yourself." Ming Tao said, lowering his form so she could climb down his arms with ease. When Mira’s body was not against his chest, he felt awkward. He missed having it there yet he did not at the same time. What was happening to him? He was supposed to detest her yet here he was enjoying her scent and craving her body warmth.

[Mighty Cheetah Ming Tao is having difficulty warming up to host.

Side task: Make mighty cheetah trust you for one hundred system points!]

Really? I just got out of a task and a near death experience, can’t system give me a break? I am also pregnant, Mira argued in her head.

[The only break you get was not having a death penalty this time. Consider it charity.]

So there are no time limit then? Mira asked in her mind.

[For now.] System chimed.

Well, that was new, but hey! I am not complaining. I love you, system, I love, love, love you, Mira chorused in her head.

They were nearing the pride. Mira needed really good rest on that fur bed and some food then some good sleep. All that near death activity led to her exhaustion. When Mira stepped foot on the pride soil, her knees melted and she fell to the ground.

Ming Tao was alerted and wanted to run to her but Jia Hao made it to her first. Mira bowed and kissed the soil, repeating this gesture multiple times like she was worshipping something.

"Never in my life did I think I would miss sand. Lion sand ground, I never want to be far from you again." Mira chimed still kissing the soil.

It was a false alarm, Ming Tao thought as he let out an exhale. The demon of the forest was not fragile from exhaustion. She did not collapse and that was relieving. A furrowed brow suddenly replaced Ming Tao’s relaxed one. Why on earth did I care if she was exhausted or not? She does not care about me and she does not matter!

Ming Tao grit his teeth at the bowing woman and the lion king who she managed to get under her thumb crouched by her side. There was a mix of a different emotion he did not expect to have when seeing her that bursted through his mind. Envy. He hated that he was not the one glued to her side. He hated that he wasn’t close enough to her to smell her. He hated that he wanted to smell her. What was wrong with him? This demon was bewitching him too. He would not let her succeed!

"Stand up, love, you shouldn’t worship the ground you walk on. Let me do it for you." Jia Hao said.

Ming Tao almost lost his mind hearing that. The two of them should respectfully go dive into horseshit.

"Don’t get yourself dirty, my king. I am just glad to be home, that’s all." Mira cooed.

"Did you miss me that much, love?" Jia Hao asked, now using his hand to cup the side of her face.

Ming Tao groaned, watching them both be lovey-dovey was infuriating. His friend Jia Hao was gone. So gone and way past redemption and something told him the man was loving this new state of himself and it made the situation even worse. Who the heck would fall for his torturer? Apparently, that king would.

"More than you would ever know. All the while I was in the river, all I could think about was you. All of you." Mira stated, responding to Jia Hao.

Ming Tao’s hands reached for his head and dragged lower down his face. He did not know why he was still standing there and letting himself witness this torture when he could scurry away.

"Do not tempt me, love. Not when we are halfway to being naked." Jia Hao said to Mira.

"Oh, for the love of sanity, be quiet!" Ming Tao yelled. This made Mira and Jia Hao turn back to face him.

"You’re still here?" Were the first words that welcomed him from Jia Hao. Ming Tao’s face blanked.

Why was he even still there?

"Be nice. He saved me and the lion cub." Mira said, tapping Jia Hao on the shoulder. "He saved our offspring." She added. "He saved the future of our tribe." There was something motherly about the demon’s tone that pulled Ming Tao in. It was mesmerising. It made her look like a woman.

But she was a witch! A cold, bitter witch who escaped loneliness because that lion friend of his could not keep his cock hidden, Ming Tao reminded himself.

"Thank you for saving me and the lion cub, Ming Tao." Hit Ming Tao like a wave. This demon. . . No, this woman. . . Said thank you? Since when did Mira tell anyone thank you? Ming Tao swallowed unable to respond. He was still trying to process her words. "I owe you one, husband."

His face reddened. Did this demon, the same one who grimaced at him whenever she looked at him before, the same one who cursed and said the words ’I wish you had never been born, otherwise I would not be married to someone like you’ just referred to him as ’husband’?

What scheme was she trying to pull this time? And why did that simple word get his heart racing again?

Ming Tao bolted, shifted into his beast form and vanished into thin air, leaving Mira confused. He would not give into this demon’s bewitching. Not ever.
