Chapter 1866: Maria’s Undead Army

-----

"Go, my Army of Nightmares and Death."

With a single command, hundreds of towering skeletons roared to life, joined by monstrous zombies, specters, and ghosts. Maria had become a one-woman army, clashing head-on against the horrors drawn and animated by the Mangaka.

"Hohooo? Ohoooo?"

The Mangaka twirled his mustache and laughed. His "grimoire"—in truth a horror manga compendium—flickered wildly as its pages turned. More and more creatures poured forth: monsters, zombies, kaiju, yokai—everything imaginable.

Maria’s summons collided with his creations. Ink splattered against shattered bone, rotting flesh mingled with broken souls, and the battlefield filled with the relentless din of clashing armies.

"Not bad! Not bad at all! You’re strong!"

The Mangaka’s amusement began to sour into irritation. His giant kaiju lumbered forward, only to be impaled and obliterated by Frank’s thrusting spear. Harumi and Erika scaled another kaiju—a colossal turtle—and tore its head off together in a brutal display of teamwork. Matsuo wove powerful spells and spread his divine formation, unleashing beams of searing sunlight that incinerated hordes of zombies.

"Wow, everyone’s so strong!" Elisa exclaimed. "D-Do we even need to do anything?"

"I feel completely outmatched," Anna murmured. "Is this the gap between them and us?"

"No, we can fight—and we have to," Elena said firmly, eyes narrowing as a third of the enemy army surged toward them. "They’re targeting us—look!"

The ground trembled. Giant mutated humans with too many limbs and heads erupted from the earth, their grotesque hands reaching to seize the girls.

Elena summoned a ghostly sword of phantasmal energy and shadow. She swung it forward with deadly precision, her aura blazing as she fused her powers together.

"Begone!"

"Fire Stance!"

"First Form!"

"Flame Dragon Dance!"

She spun through the air, charging the monsters. Her ghostly blade ignited into a burning sword, carving through dozens of mutants in sweeping arcs. Explosions of flame erupted, incinerating more and more.

SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Erika, Harumi, Matsuo, and even Frank paused to watch, stunned. Elena, a foreigner, wielded advanced Sword Breathing and Sword Stance techniques—arts not taught at their academy, but mastered only in elite Sword Sects and dojos.

She shifted seamlessly from Fire Stance to Earth Stance as the next wave attacked. Stone Body hardened her defenses to their limit, absorbing blows with almost no damage. Then Counter unleashed all the force she had endured in a single, devastating strike.

As if that were not enough, dozens of twenty-meter-tall red Oni yokai appeared, swinging massive clubs and hammers that shattered the ground and hurled debris everywhere.

Elena met their gaze with burning determination. She leaped skyward, briefly becoming the wind itself.

"Wind Stance!"

"Tornado Fang!"

FLUOSH!

SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!

She spun upward, sword slicing the air. A colossal tornado of cutting winds manifested, tearing through the giant oni until they burst into black and red ink.

The Mangaka yanked at his mustache in frustration. He summoned three more giant kaiju toward her group, directing a massive golden three-headed dragon kaiju at her friends.

"Kill them!"

"GRYYAAARRR!"

The two-hundred-meter beast unleashed three devastating breath attacks of thunder and flame. Elena tried to intercept, but she was too far.

BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!

"GIRLS!"

Elena’s heart seized in panic—but this time it was different. Through the smoke, Elisa stepped forward, her body radiating draconic power as she absorbed the lightning, surging with raw energy.

"Huh, that was tasty. Do you have more of that? Heheh."

"I can’t summon undead like Maria—she’s incredible—but I can at least do this!"

Monica fully transformed into her ghostly form, becoming a towering specter. Her hands lengthened into massive black claws as the world around her bled into darkness and shadow.

"...?!"

The kaiju vomited blood as gigantic black chains pierced its body, soul, and heart. Its golden scales darkened to pitch black; its eyes glowed crimson. The beast turned against its former allies, blasting them with beams of black lightning.

"W-What?! I cannot believe this child has stolen my own creation! What is the meaning of this?!"

The Mangaka’s hands trembled in shock. His red eyes narrowed as he roared at his creations to grow stronger and multiply.

All the monsters suddenly divided through mitosis, their numbers exploding in seconds.

"Wow, that was incredible—what did you even do?" Elena asked.

"Yeah, that was awesome!" Anna said.

"I-I don’t know, but I’ve been manifesting new Curses throughout the year, though I kept most secret," Monica admitted. "T-That one is Black Chains of Soul Enslavement. I can forcefully enslave a non-intelligent creature or beast, but it only lasts about an hour."

"Enslave... How about Taming?" Anna wondered, staring at the giant kaiju. "It’s strong, but in the end it’s just an Ink Creature—a Magic Beast. Then I can do this! Monica, can you let me tame it?"

"W-What? Is that possible? But isn’t it made from that monster’s magic?" Elisa asked.

"I’m not sure, but I feel like I can," Anna smiled. "It’ll be like stealing it!"

"...Fine!" Monica nodded.

Monica transferred the darkness to Anna. Anna touched the enslaved beast and cast her Magic Beast Taming Spell, forging an unbreakable contract it could not resist.

It succeeded instantly!

FLAAASH!

The giant three-headed black dragon-like kaiju roared, black thunder surging wildly and frying dozens of monsters in every direction.

Crimson runes etched across its body, growing brighter as Spiritual Energy and Mana from its new master flooded its veins.

RUMBLE!

"W-WHAT?!"

The Mangaka screamed in disbelief as yet another creation was stolen. He waved his hand frantically, trying to dissolve it back into magic ink—but it refused.

"Hehehe..."

Anna smiled viciously, turning to face the Mangaka with a predatory smirk.

She placed her hand on her new beast and gave it a name.

"Your new name is Obsidian!"

BOOOM!

An explosion of gold and black thunder erupted. Obsidian suddenly sprouted a pair of wings it had never possessed before—and even grew a fourth head.

"ROOOAAARRR!"

Obsidian charged the Mangaka, mouths wide, unleashing four beams of crackling electricity. The Mangaka teleported away, but the thunder pursued relentlessly, obliterating his creations in its wake.

"H-How could this be happening to me? Ridiculous!"
