Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 294: I Want To Take Care Of You
Butler Jones entered the bedroom after knocking to hand Anne the phone.
"Master wants to speak with you." He said to her noticing how weak she looked.
When Anne extended a hand to take the phone, that was when butler Jones noticed the broken glass on the floor and the drops of blood falling from her hand.
"Mistress...!" He exclaimed but Anne shook her head at him making the butler swallow the rest of his words.
He looked at her face sympathetically then at the broken glass before he hurriedly left the room to call some maids to clean up the glass and help Anne with her injury.
Anne placed the phone against her ear with her left hand which didn’t have blood on it.
"Hello?"
"Hey, how are you feeling right now?" She heard Andrew’s voice over the phone which held a mix of worry and tenderness at the same time.
"I’m fine, just a headache." She replied.
"Doesn’t sound like an ordinary headache Annelise, you sound weak."
Her voice was low because she couldn’t conjure the energy to speak louder, even though she didn’t want to make him worry about her, she still couldn’t keep it out of her voice.
Anne was accustomed to taking care of herself, whether it was days she would fend for herself even when she fell sick all alone at home, or times she would yearn to have someone there but there wouldn’t be, she wasn’t very used to getting other people worried about her.
"That’s only because I just woke up from a nap." She said despite blood still dropping from her palm, but the maids had brought in a first aid kit quietly cleaning up her wound.
When she reached for the water a while ago, her hand had slipped and when the glass fell, she hadn’t been able to control her hand and it slipped downwards onto the glass making the broken glass pierce into her palm.
Anne heard the sounds of Andrew moving from over the phone, but it didn’t cross her mind that he was actually on his way back home at the moment since he never skipped work nor leave work halfway no matter what.
"I’ll be fine, I just need to rest some more. And the doctor will be here soon."
"Okay." That was all Andrew had said before hanging up the call, she hadn’t expected that just a few minutes later, she would feel a familiar coarse hand running down along her face.
Slowly, she opened her eyes to find his large form kneeling by the couch where she laid.
"Andrew?"
He glanced down at her hand which had been wrapped up with gauze, a deep frown pulled his thick brows together and he picked it up to survey her palm.
"It’s nothing serious, Andrew." She said already feeling that he would say something about her being injured while she had fallen sick.
With an exasperated sigh, he looked away from her injury.
"You feel so warm darling." He lifted her and carried her to the bed before sitting beside her again.
"You didn’t have to come back home, I’ll be fine in a little bit." Anne said when he quietly watched her with a worried look.
"I can’t leave you home alone while you’re sick." He uttered, a little bit of guilt in his voice.
"But I’m not alone, there’s Katie and Razia and they’ve been looking after me." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Andrew picked up her hand, "And yet you got hurt."
"It was an accident."
He narrowed his eyes subtly, she could tell he was angry but he maintained a patient look in front of her.
"Alright." He said then moved to leave.
Anne could see the clear displeasure in his eyes so she quickly grabbed his hand before he could stand.
"Don’t blame them, please?" He would put the blame on the household staff for her getting hurt, Anne could already see it in his eyes and she didn’t want the innocent staff to suffer for something they hadn’t done.
There was an earnestly pleading look in her eyes, and thankfully it seemed to have appealed to him and he no longer made any move of leaving.
He caressed her hair then let out a breath.
"Okay." He agreed, there was a quietly adoring look in his eyes.
He reached over to touch her face but halted as if afraid of hurting her, a difficult look in his eyes.
"Tell me how you’re feeling Annelise, I want to take care of you."
Anne intertwined her fingers with his own, "I’m feeling better because you’re here." Anne said and remained holding his hand while he watched over her. Repeatedly asking how she felt and if she needed anything until the doctor arrived a while later.
He confirmed that she indeed would be fine and it was just an intense bout of morning sickness which would subside on its own as long as it didn’t get any more severe than it was.
True to the doctor’s words, several hours later, Anne began to feel a lot better, however she couldn’t use her injured hand because the doctor had instructed her to keep her hand from water.
That evening, after she had dinner where Andrew had carefully fed her himself, attending to her himself without assigning the maids to do anything because he suddenly couldn’t fully trust them to take care of her enough, Anne needed to shower before retiring to bed however because of her injured hand, she had no choice but to take help from Andrew.
Her husband didn’t mind at all preparing a bath for her himself, even cleaning her himself which had made her blush till she felt like her face couldn’t get any redder.
Andrew however had done it so naturally, unabashedly cleaning her in places she was too shy to let him, but of course he took the liberties to do it anyway.
After which he brought her out of the bath, wrapped her up in a towel, then took her into her closet where he helped dry her hair by the vanity.
Anne almost fell asleep at that time with the heat from the dryer and his fingers occasionally combing through her scalp, it felt incredibly soothing, in the end she fell asleep in his arms like a child.
The next day, Andrew adamantly refused to go to work because he insisted on staying with her until she felt better. But he ended up not doing that for just a day, but for the rest of the week even after Anne was completely recovered.
As the CEO, Anne wondered if him skipping work for a whole week would be a problem, but he didn’t seem to care at all. Whenever she wanted something he would get it himself when she could have done so herself or ask help from the maids.
He didn’t attempt to cook for her again though, however he very gladly volunteered to help bathe her every single day.
What made Anne really glad, was when Andrew told her she could go to work with him the next day.
She was already worried that she had missed out on a truckload of work she could have gotten done but would most likely be put on hold because of her absence.
The next morning, Anne happily got ready for work but when she got to work that day, she didn’t expect what welcomed her.
