Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 278: Stabbed
When their eyes met for the very first time after she had just become his wife, he gave her a warm smile.
"Oh, of course. She is your wife, she is yours now." Gianna replied quickly to his question, her voice sounding quite fawning.
Jasmine couldn’t understand.
What was going on?
Why was she married to this person instead?
Jasmine glanced down at the marriage certificate kept on the platform in front of them.
She hadn’t bothered to watch him sign his name, she had only signed her name with resentment in her heart.
The part where the groom signed had his name, his last name indeed was Reynolds, but his first name was different from what she expected.
Shawn Reynolds!
Jasmine didn’t know who he was. Had the Reynolds family decided to change her groom overnight?
"The wedding kiss is a tradition that seals the wedding vows Mr and Mrs Reynolds, it can’t be skipped." The officiator said in reminder and Jasmine panicked.
The man she married nodded, and he stepped close to her.
Jasmine didn’t care that the groom had changed, nor did she care that the man she married was switched from an old man to a tall and handsome one. It still didn’t change the fact that she had been sold away, be it to this man or the older one.
She closed her eyes tightly, dreading the kids that she would have no choice but to allow, clenching her fist stubbornly, she didn’t budge even as the man’s hot mouth connected with her own.
Her body felt like it had been showered with flaming hot water, then ice cold one at once.
It was her first kiss, and it had been given to someone who bought her. But why was...why was her heart reacting like this?
Why was her heart beating so fast?
When the wedding was over, Gianna pulled her aside, and the harsh exterior she had seen for days seemed to have suddenly vanished away.
"You have saved our family, my flower. I’m proud of you."
Jasmine stepped away from her mother’s caress, she would never see her the same way again.
Gianna sighed, "You will thank me for this someday Jasmine."
Jasmine’s eyes swung sharply to lock with her mother’s,
"Thank you? For ruining my life? Mom, if you want to have any delusions that I’ll be happy and come back smiling to you someday to tell you that you made the best decision of my life for me then forget it, I’ll never want this, I’ll never ever be happy because you betrayed me, your turned your back on me."
"Yes, I am a selfish mother. But at least you got one thing you wanted didn’t you? Instead of a crusty old man you got a handsome one, why can’t you try to see the good in this whole situation?"
"Mom you’ve said enough, you’ve gotten your point across. You just want to be able to sleep peacefully at night by telling yourself that I might actually end up wanting this marriage, I already told you, I’ll never be able to forget what you did to me, and you are my mother by blood but I will never forgive this."
Jasmine walked away decisively from Gianna that day.
The black limousine waited outside the church and as she walked down the steps lifting her dress in her hands, a chauffeur opened the door for her and closed it behind her.
Already sitting in the car with her was her groom. He was wearing a pair of gold rimmed glasses now, staring at her with a warm friendly smile on his pink, slightly feminine looking lips.
"I know this isn’t the ideal first meeting, but I suppose you need to know who I am. Shawn Reynolds." He spoke brightly, extending a fair masculine veined hand to her for a shake.
Something about his voice was soothing, like the type one would want to listen to when they wanted to rest at night.
Jasmine didn’t take his outstretched hand, instead she glanced at the hand he brought forward then turned her head to the side disinterestedly.
He took the cue and retracted his hand, falling quiet after that. But she could feel him looking at her from time to time.
What was he looking at her for? And why the hell would a man like him agree to a marriage like this?
Jasmine didn’t know what was going on in his mind, but she certainly knew that a man like him could very easily have any girl he wanted and most definitely through the traditional means of dating and getting to know a girl, proposing before marrying her. Could it be that every male in the Reynolds family just had a thing for buying off their brides? Was she a prize they had competed for?
They had been taken to a beautiful villa with a lovely sky view rooftop, she had been told it was her new home.
That night she had curled in the bed of the room she was supposed to sleep in, clutching a sharp steel edged hair pin. If he walked in and tried to force himself on her, she would protect herself, she would never let herself get taken advantage of.
But she stayed awake for several hours and no one came in, in the end she fell asleep in that wary sitting position.
When she woke up in the morning, she was startled to see the person she had been waiting for in the room standing over her bed.
He was leaning really close to her face and it made her panic, Jasmine jumped and without thinking she clutched the pin in her hand and stabbed it into his hand.
He let out a pained grunt and looked at her with a flash of surprise in his eyes.
His hand was bleeding profusely, but he kept a calm expression without panicking he gazed at her wary form tightening the blanket around her body.
"It’s okay, I’m not here to hurt you or take advantage of you." He assured, despite bleeding profusely he suppressed his pain just to reassure her. "I only came in here to bring your breakfast." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
She followed his gaze to the spread of warm breakfast on the coffee table in the room kept there for her.
"I’m sorry I came too close." He retreated from the room with a flush of light red to his face after saying this and a stab of guilt shot through her heart at the drops of blood on her pillowcase.
So he hadn’t come into her room to consummate their marriage and she had...she had stabbed him.
