Chapter 271: The Same Mark

The city at night looked to be thriving, the tall skyscrapers that lined each sides of the boulevard were fully lit with vibrant colors that gave the view of the city at night a breathtaking appeal.

The crisp black Maybach zoomed smoothly down the boulevard, it was a powerful looking car that commanded attention, and the man currently driving it was equally the same.

He swerved down a lane, his face a strict picture of rigidity as he stepped further on the accelerator making the car zoom even faster pulling into an upscale suburban neighborhood.

A particular villa was located at the farthest end of this neighborhood, with steel gates, and a modern architectural style.

When Andrew’s car arrived at the gates, they automatically opened up after a computerized scan that allowed the Maybach entrance after detecting Andrew’s identity.

When he stepped out of the car, a bodyguard approached him about to say something, words he decided to swallow when he realized who it was.

Andrew pushed the doors open and walked into the entryway of the villa then to the spacious living room. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"What brings you here this late young master Sterling? Master Gabriel is fast asleep by now." A young butler rushed up to Andrew immediately he walked in.

"I’m not here for Gabriel, I’m here for his wife." Andrew nonchalantly settled himself on a single leather sofa crossing his legs over one another.

The butler was taken aback, looking awkward when he heard what the man just said. Came here for his brother’s wife.

"Young master Sterling, it’s currently one-forty five AM." The butler informed nervously. Surely the man must know this was an inappropriate time to visit his brother’s home.

Gabriel and his newly wedded wife had just recently moved into this villa which was one of the Sterling family properties gifted to him by elder Sterling after his marriage, the entire staff in the villa were also appointed by elder Sterling.

"Yes it is, and I’m not a very patient man so I can’t wait around for too long."

Andrew was clearly uncaring about the inappropriateness of the current situation. It wouldn’t be possible for the butler to go upstairs and wake his superiors just to inform them that there was a guest outside, but luckily for the butler, it wasn’t too long after when Clara could be seen rushing downstairs tying a silk robe around her body.

She had seen Andrew’s car drive into the villa, it just so happened that she wasn’t asleep yet because she was waiting for a special phone call from that guy she had given a task, but Andrew’s arrival...could it be it had really happened?

The butler bowed to Andrew stepping aside when his superiors showed up, right behind Clara, Gabriel was trudging after her. They had clearly both come out from different directions, which meant they were in different rooms.

Their little lifestyle wasn’t what concerned Andrew, he watched them both trail down the stairs, Clara looking somewhat eager as she gazed at him.

"To what do I owe this late night honor brother? Though I’d like to say I’m not surprised because you’ve always been quite rude, but it is quite shocking you skipped every courtesy to come to my home this late into the night." Gabriel said sarcastically. He evidently looked displeased at Andrew’s presence.

He had suddenly heard his phone buzzing and one of the guards outside had called to inform him that his brother was here. He hadn’t gotten the chance to be surprised at the sudden visit, that too at this time when he came out of his room and he saw Clara skipping downstairs already like an eager teen.

Could it be that Clara actually had the ability to move this fast and make her plans work?

Why else would Andrew be here at this time?

Clara on the other hand couldn’t wait to hear Andrew talk.

She’s dead isn’t she?

That should be why he was here right now.

She was so eager to hear the news she couldn’t keep her calm, so she came forward,

"Andrew, why are you..."

Clara wasn’t given the chance to fully say what she had been about to say, Andrew was already out of his seat and in one swift move, his large hand wrapped around her neck.

Clara’s eyes widened abruptly.

"Strangling is such a lame way to try to kill someone, don’t you think so Clara?"

She couldn’t speak, not with how fast her breath was escaping. She was being lifted off the ground because she could feel her feet floating off the floor but the fingers around her neck got tighter.

"What the hell do you think you’re doing Andrew? Stop this nonsense right now!" Gabriel bellowed about to rush forward but Andrew’s sharp eyes fleeted to him.

"Come one step closer Gabriel, I dare you. If you don’t want me to involve you in this, try to stop me." Andrew’s threat came with a sharp menace that made Gabriel subconsciously halt right where he was unable to move forward.

He thought twice about saving Clara from his brother, first of all he didn’t care about her enough to attract a fight with his brutal brother, so it was best he saved himself the trouble.

"Fuck, if you’re going to kill her at least do it outside my house." Gabriel spat making it clear he had no intention of interfering.

"An... Andrew..." Clara slapped Andrew’s hand frantically in an effort to show him she couldn’t breathe but his fingers tightened and she could almost hear a crunch.

He was choking the very life out of her so mercilessly.

Realization dawned into Clara at this critical moment and a sharp fear for her life rushed into her. She began to struggle frantically when her body began to give, fighting to live because death felt too close but her efforts were futile.

His eyes seemed to have bottomless depths, and straight through those depths there was ruthlessness.

Did he know?

Was he doing this to her because he knew...? No wonder that bastard hadn’t called to tell her how things went, Anne was still alive and Andrew was punishing her for what happened.

If Clara could, she would beg Andrew desperately to spare her life right now, Gabriel would do nothing but watch her die, and Andrew seemed determined to kill her.

She wanted to plead so badly for her life but she couldn’t, in the end her body began to grow weak of struggling, her heartbeat slowing down every second.

Her body twitched and all of a sudden, all the struggling stopped and her eyes rolled backwards.

"Andrew you crazy bastard, you killed her!"

Thump!

All of a sudden, Clara’s body fell to the ground. She suddenly sucked in a sharp breath and began to cough profusely grabbing onto her throat with her eyes wide in fear.

Even though him choking her hadn’t killed her, she might as well die from how much her lungs burned and her throat ached at this moment, Clara’s arms were trembling on the floor she she feared she might cough out blood at this rate.

With eyes so red she raised her face up to Andrew,

"Why..." Her voice grated roughly, sounding like the voice of someone who had just visited hell and back. "Wh... what did I...ever do to you?"

All she had done was love him, was that wrong? Did she deserve so much punishment from him just because she loved him?

Andrew crouched down to her level, Clara wanted to subconsciously scoot backwards because those eyes up close frightened her.

"My men failed to find the bastard that hurt my wife, but something tells me it might be you. Be grateful there isn’t a certain proof pointing at you right now, otherwise you wouldn’t be here still breathing."

So she was right, Clara thought.

It was because of what happened to Anne, how could that dumb bastard fail to kill one damn woman?

"I ... don’t know what you’re talking about." Clara forced herself to say even with how every word caused her chest to hurt terribly.

"For your sake, let’s hope you really don’t." Andrew said then rose up, looking down at her.

Clara felt like the demon of destruction was currently standing over her and one wrong breath he could crush her beneath his feet.

So this was how it would be...he would keep punishing her for that woman!

"Would you look at that, you have the same mark around your neck now. Pity I can’t stay to watch you suffer much longer, I left my wife sleeping alone, wouldn’t want her waking up without me next to her." Andrew said with a wicked grin before turning around, his crisp footsteps echoed as he walked away.

Clara growled furiously in her throat when he was fully gone.

She turned to Gabriel to yell furiously,

"You fucking coward!"

"What did you think I would do, protect you from my brother? I don’t give a shit about you Clara, if Andrew killed you here I would have helped him bury your body in the backyard and kept the whole thing quiet, I’m not really your husband so try not to expect anything from me next time." Gabriel said carelessly, he did seem to care if Clara’s feelings got hurt or not from his words.

Did a devious woman like her even have feelings? If she had indeed tried to harm Anne then she deserved it, he felt no pity for her whatsoever and in fact, he was already beginning to regret the impulsive decision of marrying her.

As Gabriel walked away, Clara was left alone. She slumped weakly onto the floor sobbing painfully to herself but then a little while later her cry turned to laughter, it was heartbreaking that the man she loved cared so little for her that he hurt her, but the funny part was that the more he hurt her, the more she wanted him. Even right now when she might have died at his hands, she still wanted him.

Maybe this was what they called an obsession but she didn’t care, even if he would hit her, yell at her and tell her he wanted Anne she would still want him.

"You don’t want me to hurt Anne, but I will hurt her, I will keep hurting her until she takes her last breath, I’ll let you feel the pain of losing her then you’ll have no one else but me."
