Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 249: Look Outside
Kristen. As Anne thought about him, she felt a bittersweet feeling in her chest.
She was looking forward to seeing her brother, the anticipation in her heart couldn’t be mistaken, however there was still a feeling of dread.
Anticipation because she couldn’t wait to see her brother after a long time, she had never gone this long without seeing him before, dread because she feared to see him in the exact same way he had been the last time she had seen him.
Alive, yet merely surviving on machines, unable to breathe on his own, live on his own, she was slowly losing the image of the vibrant youth she had always known him to be in her mind and the memories were being replaced by this limp and quiet young man her brother had become on a hospital bed.
She was helped into the helicopter by Andrew who went on to place headphones over her ears.
He was right beside her, and as he moved closer to strap safety belts around her, Anne breathed in his masculine woody scent up close, watching his profile as his hands moved securely strapping every belt across her body, his dark hair strands falling over his forehead teased her in a way it made her want to raise her hand and brush the strands aside.
After fixing the last strap, he seemed to sense her watching him and suddenly turned his gaze to meet her. Anne came back to her senses and looked away.
"Are you comfortable?" He asked, voice a little loud over all the noise which had now been muffled due to the headphones, but she had heard him clear enough.
Anne nodded before muttering a soft thank you she wasn’t sure he’d heard because he pulled away again and placed his own headphones on leaning back next to her. His warmth so close by was somewhat soothing, his large shoulder grazing her own.
He sent a signal to the pilot who turned to confirm if they were ready and soon after, the aircraft began to lift off the ground.
Anne suddenly felt as if her stomach was falling, it was as if she had suddenly become weightless. The helicopter swayed and the feeling of her stomach dropping intensified and she suddenly felt a bit nauseous and a bit anxious she couldn’t sit still yet she was as stiff as a rock. Her heart pounding so fast in her ears along with the sudden vibration all around.
The next time the helicopter swayed, Anne couldn’t keep her ground, she jolted a bit in fear and her breathing suddenly turned heavy, anxiety making her restless.
At the very moment her mind was in utter chaos, she felt a warm large hand cover her own which were dropped flat over her thighs. Anne immediately looked to her side where Andrew sat, his eyes were closed with his head rested backwards, it was as If he wasn’t feeling any of the turbulent movement of the aircraft.
All that worry and anxiety that had escalated in her heart slowly began to ease away as she felt the tightness with which he was holding her hand. His fingers were clasped over her own, a tenderness in his grip yet he occasionally squeezed her hand in a manner she found reassuring.
It was just holding hands, but why did her heart feel so full? Why was her heart feeling so much peace?
She stared at his face for a long time and didn’t realize when a long deep breath escaped her. In the end, the helicopter smoothly zoomed in the air and she no longer felt anything.
"Still scared?" She noticed his lips move first before she registered what he asked.
"Not anymore." Anne replied feeling a lot better. The nausea and anxiety all gone now.
"Good, look outside." He instructed gently and Anne turned to the windows on her side before letting out a soft gasp.
The sky looked so much more vast from this high up, she could see the stars clearer and the almost full moon more vividly and so much bigger from up here. It was a magical view, so beautiful one could only have dreamed it but it was real and right in front of her.
The view of the cityscape from up here formed a twinkling grid of lights, with skyscrapers, streets and buildings fully illuminated looking breathtakingly beautiful.
When the helicopter flew over a river, it cast a huge silver glow on the surface of the water, it was all so magnificent, it felt like seeing the world from a bird’s eye view.
Anne didn’t know when Andrew had opened his eyes, or that he was currently leaning over close to her watching the view along with her and taking in her awed reaction, his eyes so deeply focused on her face, with every awed smile she showed, his lips tilted upwards pleasantly as well. If she was enjoying the view, his whole attention was focused on her as if he were enjoying it along with her, the only difference was his view was different.
"Look over there." She suddenly heard his voice but she wasn’t startled because she knew it was him.
His hand pointed in a certain direction and Anne shifted her gaze to follow his finger.
A very tall, large building that looked like it shared the sky with the moon and stars slowly began to light up at this moment.
The lights looked like several bunch of beautiful and colorful crystals stacked over one another gleaming so brightly.
"Wow." She couldn’t help but subconsciously gasp, laughing softly at the beauty of it.
The Elvis tower, it was the tallest and largest building in the entirety of Verizon, every night it lit up, but on special occasions it would display different color of lights.
She never thought she would experience seeing the Elvis tower from this high up.
Anne felt Andrew move away, unaware of what signals he had given the pilot flying the helicopter at this moment, but the aircraft shifted directions moving towards the Elvis tower, and the closer it came, the more beautiful it looked.
Did he tell the pilot to go closer so she could see it more?
Anne turned her head and immediately she locked gazes with Andrew, he was there beside her again looking over her shoulder as if looking outside at the view but his eyes were on her the whole time.
Anne froze, their noses almost touching this close, her heart began to thud faster and faster.
The atmosphere looked beautiful and heavily romantic, with him leaning over, his body covered hers from behind.
Her heart fluttered when his gaze traveled over her face finally stopping on her lips, and she suddenly got the feeling that he would kiss her.
The moon and stars seemed to witness this moment.
